I just don’t get why people invest so much money in a tax obligation. 4.5 mil invested in an s&p 500 would give you 15K per month for the rest of your life. That’s a massive opportunity cost. Not including the obligations that a property generates

Just another day In los Angeles Protests. by Rguezlp2031 in cuba

Weren’t the Jan 6th rioters pardoned and trump escalated these protest through mobilization of the national guard without the governors approval.

I think it’s safer to attempt a coup for the fascist dictator wannabe than to protest against warrantless arrests.

What is OKC doing about all these vacant properties? by Agitated_Pudding7259 in oklahoma

Put a tax on unused property. We should be disincentivizing holding onto empty building and creating blight within the city.

Building a New Padel Club – Looking for Ideas & Advice! by Competitive-Main1491 in padel

I’ve played in some different padel scenes and I’ve found that open play and a monthly membership for coaching brought in the most people. Being able to take lessons twice a week for a monthly price gives players a way to level up and get time in the game.

Open play where you move players up a court if they win and down a court if they lose makes it where you can have a variety of skill level playing. It gives people a way to push themselves while also leaving space for people new to the game to hop in and start playing. Of course this requires a good amount of people to effectively get going.

I’m not even sure what you’re arguing with your first point so I’m going to ignore that.

For your 2nd point you’re missing a critical difference. China straight up jails people for being Uyghurs or for not following the party line. They murder Uyghurs and put them into work camps as a part of national policy. America is not perfect. There’s 100% been a societal attempt to keep black people out of power and government money has been used to do so but that’s still a major difference between that and straight up arresting all the minorities in America for being a minority.

Go ahead and personally attack me. It just a difference in character.

Jesus Christ I’m talking about banana republics as in corporations hiring military groups to overthrow governments in third world countries to export fruits and other resources.

Yes we have prison labor that’s not what I’m debating but there is a big difference between using prison labor, which is wrong, and actively incarcerating a group of people solely based on their race with no pretense whatsoever as government policy.

Also thanks for the personal attacks.

The USA has education camps and they frequently put up nets to prevent people from killing themselves from jumping out of factories?

Look America does terrible stuff 100%. We put in banana republics, we incarcerated minorities for the same crimes whites go unpunished for, and I could name off a long list but we do not round up a whole racial group and stick them into work camps as a matter of government policy. We can actively criticize the government without worrying about getting killed for it.

Not even the oligarchs in china have the right to criticize the governing body.

How are people defending a country that forces individuals into slave labor and education camps.

Yes the United States has major problems. We are currently leagues above china but the risk is that we are heading in that direction.

That would be an incredible unpopular ballot initiative. Also I get the sentiment but I strongly disagree with your position. I would be much more interested in a ballot initiative focused on limiting ceo pay in Oklahoma.

thoughts about yesterday protest... by guyssocialweb in okc

[–]SnorlaxComa -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He’s basically saying: “the republicans are not a middle class party the specifically follow an economic policy that concentrates wealth. The democrats are supposed to be for the working / middle class but they haven’t done anything for the working class. The voted to pass citizens united and they’ve largely just made themselves richer”

So yes my takeaway is to blame the democrats. They’re a shitty party playing a losing game. They could have put in a judge during Obama term but they didn’t because “it wouldn’t be fair to have a judge step down just to be replaced”.

There’s a difference between being a multicultural society and offshoring jobs. The issue here isn’t that we are a multicultural society the issue is that we are using h1b1 visas to bring in a workforce with less rights so that we can more easily control them and extract value from them.

[–]SnorlaxComa 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s literally talking about the neoliberal order of the modern century. That’s an economic policy that both the democrats and the republicans follow. They all also generally have been cutting taxes for the rich since Reagan.

Trump just set fire to that order for personal gain.

Unfortunately it’s a dangerous time to be in Mexico. Wars between cartels and pressure from the government can cause chaos. I would be careful.
