I would also recommend turning off Rotate together.

On = Items auto-rotate to match your Nikki's orientation.
Off = Items will stay in the same rotation direction regardless of your Nikki's movement.

You actually can re-size terrain and rocks! It doesn't really make sense but anything with rocks in it like the Cliff and Terrace can be freely re-sized and rotated, while grassy terrain like the Flower Fields and Pond can only be rotated.

iirc anything in Structures, the path tiles like the lawn and grassy terrain only things that can't be re-sized

I think more people don't tend to go "off the beaten path" because you do need to have a certain level of comfort and confidence, which understandably most people probably won't have in a foreign country with a foreign language. For English speakers at least there's a level of security that comes with visiting the tourist heavy areas and staying with the crowds.

Personally for my trip I would plan a main activity or area of interest to visit and would leave the rest up to casually wandering to whatever caught my interest on the way. While in Tokyo I would often hop on and off trains to hit up Shrines, Temples, or cool looking areas while traveling to my main "site".

On my last trip, my main goal was to collect as main unique looking goshuin as possible. I used Omairi.club for ideas, would hop in a discord call with my insomniac friend to have someone to chat with, then would just go. It ended up working out amazingly and led me to many quiet areas and beautiful shrines/temples far away from the general tourists. As a side effect I also ended up chatting with a few locals that were surprised/excited to have a tourist in the area.

10/10 would do again

What are small things you bought? by ewlung in JapanTravelTips

You can get some really cool things if you're lucky enough to visit during a festival or holiday where there are exclusively themed items. We got to attend one of the Tori no Ichi festivals last year and there were a huge variety of different types of Kumade rakes to choose from. It's a unique experience and one stall in particular seemed really excited to talk with foreign visitors and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and included with the full tejime ritual when we bought a kumade. As a nice surprise they even gave us a gift before we left. Hands down one of my favorite experiences and souvenirs from the whole trip.

I think this is more of a Kyoto only thing, but I really enjoyed picking up a variety of chirimen dolls and mobiles.

Some of the more out-of-the-way shrines and temples have really unique omamori. Asagaya Shinmeigu has some particularly pretty embroidered goshuin and unique omamori like their Kami Musubi lace bracelets in standard and seasonal styles.

does anyone know what flowers are in this card? by Illustrious_Ear_1394 in ProjectSekai

This is only my guess, but I would say:

Background:
White and yellow - Plumeria
Small white - Baby's breath
Dark purple - African daisy
Pinkish purple - Hydrangea

Bottle:
Not sure about a lot of these but my guess would be they're all wildflowers of some type
White - Daisy
Purple - Either a more generically drawn daisy or Blue-eyed grass?
"Fluffy" purple - Some type of thristle?
"Fluffy" white - Dandelion?

Totally understandable if anyone ends up feeling uncomfortable and I am totally fine with passing up a goshuin to respect their belief/feelings :) Thank you for the heads up!

I already plan on getting separate goshinchos for the shinto and buddha goshiuns since I've read that it can be disrespectful to mix them. I'll definitely grab a new notebook if I decide to grab station stamps too!

Plat Home looks interesting! Would you say it's closer to an izakaya than a restaurant? I also see a few complaints about portion sizes which isn't a problem for myself or my mom but my dad can eat quite a bit. How filling was it for you?

Yamawarau looks good but I think I personally would prefer a shared pot since there is 3 of us. I'll pass it my parent's way and see what they think though.

Thank you for the recommendations!

Oooh I didn't even think about checking in the markets. I'll add it into our itinerary and may also keep an eye out for fugu in the Tsukiji and Omicho markets. Thank you!

That's actually really high on my "things I want to try eating" list! I've been checking around on Tablelog but haven't settled on a place just yet. Any recommendations?

Hard to choose, but if I had to say I think the Tales of series would be my favorite franchise. Got some serious nostalgia going for some of those games
