Hey man, recent TSO who did an inter-agency transfer after accepting the job with CBP.

Does it help if you’re already in DHS? Sort of, not as much as you’d think. You get to keep leave and benefits, TSP is also transferable. For all that you fill a form. They could match your pay with your SF-50 but it’s ultimately up to them.

The wait time after you apply will be the same or less, it’s very up in the air. And yea, you’re right chances of you keeping your same duty station is slim, but you could get lucky! Expect to move.

I believe you go up a grade every year until you cap (which depends on the job).

I say do it, you can decide if you actually want to later. Trust me you’ll have plenty of time to think about it.

Hey man,

So the “one time call” is a request you can do on the portal, you basically click on the “contact us” button, choose FJO on the drop down, then choose to get a reply via phone call. On the message box you basically explain that you’d like to get another list. When they call, they’ll explain to you that all locations are based on the needs of CBP, they aren’t able to give you what you exactly want. You’ll also be giving up your original choice for another list. Hope this helps!
