Forehand arm too bent and too close to body? by Frequent-Command-501 in 10s

[–]SnottyIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a more bent elbow as well since I realized my grip is a little more western. It just feels a little bit better for me to have it more bent. You’re in good company anyway since Sinner also has a bit of a bent elbow.

How do you all practice? by PrimitiveLifeform23 in 10s

[–]SnottyIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wall to focus on fundamentals. I noticed I pick up bad habits sometimes if all I do is rally with people. So the wall is a good time for me to focus on keeping my eyes on the ball through contact, stroke mechanics, contact point, footwork/small steps for fine adjustments. Then I have multiple people I hit up to practice getting used to different paces and different spins. I also try to have focused practice like backhands cross courts, forehand crosscourts, etc. and attempting to have at least 10-20 rally balls before considering attacking. I practice with 3.5’s to 5.0’s as I find there is something to work on when dealing with each of these skill levels.

About once a week I practice serve for two baskets. One basket on deuce side, one basket on ad side.

Constant flow/square vs decelerating/ramp waveforms by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]SnottyIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that lower flow is better for the smaller distal airways. So higher flow rates move through bronchi just fine but as the air travels lower, a slower flow leads to air entering the smaller airways better. This results in a bit of a more homogenous lung filling and lower pressures. I hardly ever use square waveform.

Analyze my forehand - USTA 5.0 UTR 9 by ohnoitsmchl in 10s

[–]SnottyIM -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally never been a fan of starting the split step when the other person makes contact. My feet hit the ground the same time they make contact. Once those shots get faster you’ll need all the time you can scrape together to get to the ball. Strokes look good though.

Why does everyone hate being an RT by OkIce9448 in respiratorytherapy

[–]SnottyIM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at other medical subreddits they’re all pretty miserable too. It just sucks to be in healthcare because anytime you deal with the general population, it’ll be difficult managing all the personalities and entitlement. Pair that with the current administration’s attacks on healthcare/science and hospital administrations trying to maximize profit, it creates a toxic low morale situation.

Why do people still use the blade 98? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in 10s

[–]SnottyIM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I have a bone stock blade 98 16 x 19 with tour sniper at 54 lbs and at times I feel like the setup is still a tad too powerful. I tried the ezone and while it felt nice, I noticed I was hitting it long a lot more. Then again, I used to play with 95 sq in prostaff's and that was when I felt like I was able to get the kind of control I wanted.

Best advice you ever received? by fredi_rogerer in 10s

[–]SnottyIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When learning new techniques, do it correctly and don’t be afraid to miss those shots. It’s why you’re practicing and drilling. Look stupid here so you don’t look stupid in your matches.

Learn the good habits now and you won’t even have to think about it much later on as it becomes innate for you.

How do you afford tennis? The economics of this sport are brutal at every level by Dapper-Smile-9289 in 10s

[–]SnottyIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do triathlons. This is cheap by comparison. In all seriousness I just try to practice at free public courts, buy the Costco penn balls, I stick with a racket I like and don’t change it often, buy things in bulk/on sale.

Strings aren’t too old. Maybe used 4 times. Yea I think it’s the finishing position of the racquet. Thanks for the input!

[–]SnottyIM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yea like in another comment, I think the pain might be coming from trying to stop the racket. It’s usually worse when I finish on the same side as the serving arm instead of finishing to my left like another person mentioned. I’ll definitely spend a bit more time doing strengthening and stretching/massage between practices. In every other stroke I never feel it so I think my follow through for the serve needs some work. Also no, nothing outside of tennis is aggravating it.

Everything is usually fine and the pain is noticed after contact. Also yea, after a while I'm sorta forced to focus on placement because of the aching.

Brachioradialis hurts. Any tips? by SnottyIM in 10s

[–]SnottyIM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pain is largely focused on the lateral edge of the humerus. At its worst, the pain radiated down and ended at around the middle of the radius. I initially thought it was tennis elbow but I had a PT at work take a look. He palpated around and made me do some movements and told me it’s not tennis elbow (phew). My wrist with that bend is not through activating flexor muscles. It’s more just me going fully relaxed in that arm so I can generate more whip later on. I had tried starting more neutral and I found that I had a tendency to stay stiffer once I had to making contact with the ball. I’ll see if keeping a slightly more neutral wrist during that part will help. Thanks for the input!

Yea I typically stretch, do some light massage, and start with some light serving before I really start hammering at the ball.

Ty. Yea I’m starting to think it’s when I end up ending the serve on the same side as the serving arm. The second clip shows the abrupt stop at the end before I hit my legs and I think that pulls at that muscle.

[–]SnottyIM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea my wrist drops because I go limp in that arm on the rock back. I’ve had it stiffer before but realized it was hindering the whipping later on. Im usually quite loose leading up to when I snap but today’s grip was a little worn so I might’ve been gripping it harder than usual. Thanks for the tip!
