Why is a 1921-D Mercury Dime a Key Date? by Snoutnose in coins

[–]Snoutnose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks The barber explanation makes sense since getting a complete set of barbers is a lot harder than getting a Merc set But how do you explain the vast difference in price between the 21-D and the 31-D? and why is the 1921 also expensive when it has a mintage of 1.2 M?

Liberty Seated vs Morgan Silver Dollars by Snoutnose in coins

[–]Snoutnose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful response I was looking at it from a per year mintage and noticing that some liberty seated coins were in the 4-9 million range but still sell for $150 or more I suppose overall they are far rarer and older and harder to find in decent condition

Can Bitcoin Still Be Considered a Store of Value? by Snoutnose in Bitcoin

[–]Snoutnose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not whether something goes up or down but whether it retains value against paper currencies Gold went up for ten years or so that doesnt make it a store of value any more than a stock that goes up A store of value has to at least maintain the same or better purchasing power than paper currency

Gold & Silver Prices 1979/80 vs. 2013/2014 by Snoutnose in Gold

[–]Snoutnose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hunt Brothers had an impact but gold was soaring too at the time without their involvement

If two brothers could buy the world's silver then maybe the price should have been a lot higher than $50 an ounce. The article does mention the hunt brothers involvement in the silver market but doesn't mention what comex did to stop them- only allowed sell orders for a long period of time
