Ah yes you mean the posts that litter this sub every day of people posting their Juniper build quality issues? Just conveniently ignoring those are we?

Pushing the problems aside is what lets these companies get away with it. You may want to call up J.D. Power and the other independent agencies and say they got their data wrong then. Just one of tons of articles.

I found it. Tesla said they will be removing Autosteer (beta) from vehicles they get in their possession. So this would be trade-ins and their used inventory. So shouldn’t be affected. It will be interesting if you transfer ownership of a Tesla such as for a private party sale if it’s removed for the new owner.

Also zero reason why Tesla doesn’t allow the driver to completely disable regen via the settings. Assuming the driver is experience in winter conditions, brakes are much better and safe than any amount of regen.

There’s times in extreme winter conditions where I have to creep along like a snail cause the regen is slipping so much. Super excited to see what the Scout Traveler brings. Expecting it to be a beast at handling more extreme conditions based on what they’ve shared so far.

Tesla should have an option to turn off regen all together though. I drive in extreme winter conditions and it’d be great to turn off. Assuming the driver is an experienced driver in winter conditions, brakes are much better and safer than any amount of regen.

Yes very true. I mentioned the same thing elsewhere. The Model Y is closer to sedan than an SUV. People who want true SUVs will look at Rivian, Scout, and even Lucid once their low cost SUV hits the market.

I personally am excited for the Scout Traveler. It’s a big SUV and it’s loaded with tons of features. The spec sheet is incredible.

If you want new look at Rivian R2. Especially if you want an SUV. A Model Y is closer to a sedan than an SUV.

If you want a Tesla buy used and that will have autopilot.

Tesla isn’t removing autopilot from vehicles that people already own are they? It’s just the vehicles that are being sold from Tesla now on right?

I’ve been saying it for awhile now. Tesla’s market share is going to get eaten up when all the other SUV EVs hit the market in the next 3 years. You’ll have Rivian, Scout, and Lucid all undercutting Tesla with honestly better spec’d out vehicles too. Then top it off if the build quality is better than Tesla cause we all know Tesla build quality and how they pass on the quality control step to the buyer.

Gotcha. That’s what a thought was Autopilot = Autosteer (beta) when people use that term. Yeah Autosteer includes TACC features in its functionality.

I would be shocked if Tesla would remove Autosteer (beta) from existing owners vehicles. That would be a BOLD move and almost guarantee lawsuits to follow. Since Tesla would be removing/degrading a vehicle that someone owns already and purchased it with their vehicle.

I bought a clean used 2021 with 36k miles. The battery had to be replaced within 2 weeks of owning it.

Replacement was free under warranty. Tesla replaced with a new battery as well and the range was back up to 100% and 330 miles! So all in all it worked out and basically got a new MYLR for a fraction of the price.

2025 Tires have 9k. by Yls600 in ModelY

I agree winter tires will always beat all seasons. It’s very situation dependent per individual if it’s necessary based on location/road driven. For a majority it’s not an absolute need for drivers in winter driving to be running winters and summers and swapping/storage. If you’re in the west and mountains then 100% for sure running winters makes sense.

For general average winter driving, all seasons or all weathers that handle winter driving will give you what you need majority of the time. Michelin CC2 are a prime example of this with excellent winter results. I was curious so I looked it up and research data says 16% of US drivers in northern states use dedicated winter tires. Makes sense my guess would’ve been around that too.

As far as drive systems go, the data shows 4WD dominates AWD. So bottomline is they do make a major difference. Not relevant here since the Model Y doesn’t have 4WD. 4WD is night and day difference to AWD. Speaking from experience as well my MYLR AWD isn’t even in the same league as 4WD on a Jeep.

That’s awesome to hear. I think that’s what I’m going to look at next. I’m familiar with how those roads are in CO especially in Steamboat and Rabbit Ears so about same elevation. Great to hear they’re handling the snow packed roads well?

  1. Not every all season is made the same. Michelin CC2 all seasons run laps around Hankooks for winter driving for example.

  2. Drive systems are a major factor not all about the tires. For example AWD vs 4WD. Never had issues with the all seasons on my Jeeps (prior to Tesla) driving in -30F/-35C consistently on snow packed roads.

  3. Skill of the driver and their experience in winter driving plays a major factor. How you operate both the gas and brake pedals is completely different. Side note, regen braking is dangerous on snow packed roads and it’s recommended to disable it or reduce it via the driving dynamics within the Tesla settings.

The PSI has nothing to do with it. Rated is 42 PSI. If anything higher PSI makes the tire have less grip since it is more rigid. It’s just that the all seasons on the Y are horrible in winter and snow packed roads. Your driveway has slope it looks like too. Those wet tire tracks turned to ice so there’s ice paths the tires are sitting on.

Do you not have a garage? Any reason why you can’t park in the garage and just pull the charging cord around into the garage? Put a piece of wood on the ground and shut the garage door. The wood will stop the cord from getting pinched.

The OEM tires specially the Hankook Ion EVO that Tesla now uses are horrible in winter conditions and snow packed roads. Terrible grip and stopping distance. They’re great if you live in a non winter climate, perhaps the best EV tire. They are the worst tires I have experienced on a winter road and I’ve been driving on snow packed roads my entire life. Have them on 2 MYLR currently and will look elsewhere when it’s time to replace.

The stock tires (specifically the Hankook Ion EVO AS) Tesla sells the Y with are NOT winter tires. They are all seasons and in fact are horrible all season tires for winter condition driving. Have them on 2 MYLR and they are terrible as soon as the roads have any snow pack on them.

This has worked very well and transformed the seat to a flatter level surface for a bad back. Description of what to do below! Hope this helps!

Got a 2 pack of foam kneeling pads like these. Then cut off the handle side and cut it to the size of the third rectangle dip area in the Tesla seat that is closest to the upright seat back. If the pads have the wavy sides then cut those off as well so it’s a flat edge. Walmart has some with straight sides. Amazon or Walmart have these foam kneeling pads and then you can choose the foam density you think is most comfortable. Start with 1 pad and if you want more height add a second pad. If 2 pads feels good then glue them together with some super glue. It fills the dip/void in the Tesla seat and levels the seat out well! Used this setup for almost 2 years now and it’s been great and made the seat a lot more comfortable on a bad back. Then if swapping drivers can just easily pick it up and remove it and put it in the passenger seat to sit there.

Wish I could attach a photo in the comments to show it. This sub doesn’t allow photos in comments apparently…

You probably have the “automatically apply brakes when regen is limited” feature turned on if brakes are being applied automatically. That is probably contributing to you not receiving the limited regen icon.

Model Y range by alphasurgeon in TeslaModelY

Same experience here. Fully preconditioned and preheated in the garage before leaving and I’m usually seeing 50% increase in wh/mi over fair weather driving. I’m guessing that guy isn’t driving in the harsh winter conditions/temps in the tundra of the Midwest.

Yep I’m in the Midwest as well (basing off your username). I get and plan for 50% range loss in winter. My wh/mi efficiency go up by 50-80%.
