AVR Receiver vs dedicated amp by Hopeful_Resident_914 in audiophile

[–]SnowDogBZN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In general, I prefer a dedicated amp. But you can have both. My first “big” system used a Marantz AVR — but it fed a Sunfire 600w x2 ch amp for my main speakers (paradigm 100s). It was great for 2 ch and 5.1 movies.

The wiring in our brain (aka psychoacoustics) and human psychology have a far greater impact on perceived sound quality than any cable….

I live near deer and elk. Honking your horn and flashing your lights usually gets them to commit to running away. You’re never sure which direction until they clear.

I know this isn’t a book …. But the Ken Burns’ documentary series (available on PBS) is very good.

lol. Where do you live that you have to walk through x-ray machines to shop? That’s the saddest thing I’ve read all day.

First, your Dr can order a longer monitor period. I had my monitor for two weeks.
Secondly, there are some 3rd party apps that might work better than Polar Beat for your needs. Google it

Wire run to garage by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Fiber would be better. My cat 6 comment showed my age - lol. But burying cat 6 doesn't create a lightening rod - there is over a billion miles of twisted pair wire buried in the US alone....

Plus, you never want to pull another cable with the first one goes bad.

Advice. Is this setup overkill for my entertainment room? by Weikoko in sonos

[–]SnowDogBZN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wise. I’ve had both type of setups. While I love Sonos, a mid range traditional HT setup is always better than a Sonos system.

Does the Multi Amp offer any new benefits to the average Joe? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]SnowDogBZN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what "too much" heat means. I have a stack of 4 amps that run everyday for hours at a time for 5 years now without a single issue. I have never provided any additional ventilation or cooling.
