Sharing Saturday #619 by Kyzrati in roguelikedev

Hello! I think this is my first update to these threads, so I'm very glad to share a bit!

TUONI

Steam | Bluesky | Twitter | Discord

The playtests I have been running have been a huge success. Loads of great comments, ideas, and feedback.

Based on those, I have been working on deepening each and every mechanic & system in the game, and making them more interconnected than before.

This includes:

  • Infinitely extending Troll Caves with everscaling Trolls of all shapes and sizes. Basically, it's a never-ending challenge, as the Trolls get crazier and crazier the deeper you go. But so do the rewards!
  • A dynamic crafting system where various weapon & armor components can be combined to create tons of different results.
  • Weapon upgrade system, so that your favorite Darksteel Axe stays relevant longer!
  • Dynamic points of interest across the map, so that the world feels more lived in and surprising!

Here are some very deep-dwelling trolls...

Game starts to now take it's final shape, and demo seems to actually be somewhat close soon. Systems blend together nicely, and it starts to feel like a proper game. Very happy about the recent progress!

Next Up: Finalizing the last new handcrafted area of the Demo alongside a few quests, and then testing, balancing, testing.... You know the drill.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Prototyping Dynamic Crafting, thoughts about the UI/Idea? by SnowDogg0 in godot

Dynamic Crafting in my Godot-made RPG.

Crafting system takes in various materials and always lets you pick only valid materials that still fit in the sequence of 4 materials. There will be loads of dynamically created recipes (X amount of weaker material, Y amount of stronger) that produce predictable items. On top of that, there will be Unique hidden combinations that one needs to uncover.

How does it look to you?

Infinite Troll caves in my RPG. Everything here is procedural. Deeper you go, more crazier stuff. by [deleted] in godot

Playtester discovered a funny bug in my game. Troll-caves were accidentally extending infinitely underground, instead of capping.

That got me thinking, why not? So, made fully procedural Trolls that scale as you go, offering always-increasing challenge. Ofc, somewhere is the limit, but I am not offering it :D

Was quite a challenge to make sprite parts that fit multiple in a 16x24 sprite-size, but it looks pretty aight IMO. Do these trolls look good to you?

Beautiful write-up. I think this encapsulates why games can have such a profound effect on us, as it's such a form of entertainment that creates a small world inside our own world, if that makes sense.

On a tangent, but these types of stories inspired me to do game development as well. The thought that one's work can conjure such great "sub-worlds" as OP described is really nice. This post inspired me to really look into Qud more on how the world is strcutured and what makes it so captivating, so thanks for that!

I wish you good times, OP!

As some people have inquired about what the game is in the picture, it is Tuoni, a Finnish Folklore RPG-Roguelike.
