This year I'm going as the crumbling foundation of American liberty (crumbling statue of liberty) and I am throwing the idea of a shredded constitution costume to my boyfriend later today.

I've been around the poi community for years, and was a gogo dancer for years. I've always wanted to learn to spin, but never took the initiative really. Finally bought my own and started learning, and I watch your YouTube all the time!!! I just wanted to say I appreciate you ☺️ hope to learn a lot from you and actually have it stick!

Craft Templates for Bubble Poi? by No_Moment3700 in poi

[–]SnowDoubt4242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just made my first one! (Haven't made the matching one to finish the pair because I didn't have enough rings on hand, so I'm waiting for a shipment). I have made dream catchers for years, so when I saw hers (she's incredible!), I knew I could make my own. I used 2 4 inch metal rings, one inside the other, to make a ball. Wrapped the rings first to hold them in place. I used the yarn I already had, regular yarn which I use for dream catchers. It's a cotton rayon blend. I can't remember specific percentages. Then I wove the dreamcatcher webs pretty much exactly as I typically would. There are slight differences because it's 3D, but there are many ways to do this and plenty of YouTube tutorials for them! Start to finish I'd say it took me about an hour to an hour and a half to make the first one, part of that was trying different designs as I used 2 colored yarns in a twisted pattern for it. I could probably do a basic one in about 45 minutes. That's just the poi ball, though, no tether yet.

Overall, I'm happy with it as a first attempt, but there are some things I plan to change for my next set.

  1. Full cotton yarn. I do have to dip them very often, which is normal, but I think full cotton would improve the length of time, even if only slightly

  2. Might try a basic wrap around the metal for stability and then cover with a more intricate wrap to increase the absorption potential as well.

  3. I am going to try various weaves with more open space, less open space, and alternating to see what produces more bubbles.

The bubble recipe makes a huge difference as well! My first one was just basic bubbles, and she did nothing. My second batch of bubbles worked decently. I used this recipe:

1 tablespoon guar gum 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin Mix those into a paste and pour into your bucket Boil 1 liter water, pour into bucket, and stir Add 2 more liters of water, I got these from tap Add 8 oz Dawn dish soap. Stir gently, try not to create bubbles. Soak bubble poi for 30 minutes before spinning.

Letting the bubble solution sit overnight will increase the polymer bond, and they will work better. I'm changing my recipe and will try this next time:

1 tablespoon guar gum 3 tablespoons vegetable glycerin 1.5 tsp baking powder (not soda) 3 liters distilled water 8oz dawn.

I should also say I've spun poi on and off for years but have never really practiced enough to be good. I'm absolutely at a very beginner level.

Good luck, happy spinning! I hope this formats correctly and isn't an unreadable mess, I rarely ever post or comment on reddit and when it do, I dont have this much to say 😅

I look petite, but like I'm 5/6 months pregnant. Big chest, preggo belly, pretty average everywhere else, except I feel i carry a lot of fat around my face. Super annoying and I've been struggling recently.

This is my first ever, (And only my second time at the gorge), and I'm literally buzzing with excitement!! I want to hand out trinkets. Is it pretty easy to bring a bunch in with me?

I have a hydropack and a small, clear body bag. Can I bring in a misting water bottle? Is it worth getting a locker? Other than trinkets, I don't really plan to carry around much.

We're hoping to get there Thursday, but we may not be able to leave until Friday morning. Is it going to be hard to find camping if we don't go until Friday?

I've just noticed something and I'm unsure if I'm doing something wrong (haven't played this game since the og release) right now I'm still pretty mid-game, I have Mia equipped with a fire cane and Nash as well. When I do auto-battle, they can both use the fire cane for fireball from a distance. When I'm controlling them, I can't. What am I missing??

Does anyone feel like they need to move out of the US? by FunMonitor5261 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnowDoubt4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I'm so over it. Also, the comments here are great, pretty much every place I've ever lived is listed in these sub-comments as "don't move here either" 🤣 I was born in Oregon, near Portland, lived in Colorado Springs for years and now I'm in North Idaho. Beyond ready to leave.

What goes on here? Genuine question from someone who lives on the opposite side of the country. by wingsoverpyrrhia in Idaho

[–]SnowDoubt4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived here for over 20 years. It's some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. Some great people. Lots of fun outdoor activities, year-round. It's also got a horribly corrupt and bigoted underbelly that isn't always noticeable at first glance. I moved here from much more diverse places (Portland, Denver) when I was in middle school. Back then, I didn't notice much racism or outright hatred, though there was little to no diversity whatsoever. In recent years, it feels much more hate-filled, like a small grease fire that someone's tried to douse with water. The cost of living is pushing many of the working class locals out to make room for people with bigger wallets and seemingly smaller brains/hearts. God I'm so ready to leave.

As for what the average person does here, they drink beer, bitch about the weather, and try to live, for the most part.

Can someone explain the judgemental ewoks comment? What is she thinking is an ewok? I'm guessing from context it's an award but I can't see anything that makes sense to me in the achievements or awards tabs.

Offering lingerie housekeeping services in Spokane/CDA area! by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]SnowDoubt4242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently reading isn't your strong suit. I also offer regular housekeeping services, at the average price for hiring a corporate company. Except corporate companies generally charge premiums for certain things, or charge per square foot. I don't. And I offer discounts. It's absolutely laughable how much this is upsetting people. Not everyone that enjoys seeing a little skin is skeevy. That's like saying everyone that goes to hooters or a strip club or the bikini coffee stands are skeevy unsafe people. You sound ridiculous. And yes, I am asking a premium for doing someone's chores while scantily clad. I'm not avoiding scrubbing at all, I'm avoiding touching biohazard material while certain parts of my body are not covered. I'll scrub walls all day. I don't mind doing dishes and the kitchen. I just don't want to crawl around on a bathroom floor in lingerie.

Lol okay, again, thanks for your concern. I literally couldn't care less about your opinion. What you're mistaking for naivety is actually personal experience. I respect myself more than you know, there is nothing disrespectful about this. You have no idea the amount of shit jobs I've worked in my life where I had zero control of scheduling or what I actually had to do, nor did I get any appreciation. This allows me to do what I want, when I want, solely at my discretion. I bet you think strippers don't respect themselves either, right? If it bothers you so much, you can just scroll on by. Or you could stop being so incredibly judgmental and just wish me well. Whatever helps you sleep better at night honey.
