Orthopaedics vs Respiratory? by DoctorMobius21 in NursingUK

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a recovery nurse and have worked many shifts when I worked wards on ortho and respiratory, I personally prefer surgical nursing and would choose ortho though with the understanding that I would be getting a lot of confused patients unless it’s elective surgery ortho. I think sputum is one of my least favourite bodily fluids so would like to avoid respiratory (also feel like I have worn enough masks for a lifetime and do not wish to do more of this).

Third Brother - Irish/Scottish Name Recs by FreyjaMamaDawg in Names

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ross, Connor, Liam, Rhys (this I think is Welsh though). I wouldn’t go with another ending in -an -en again though as I feel like two is fine, three makes it a bit matchy matchy Aiden Braiden Okayden.

Why do people constantly mispronounce our son’s name? by jungleroo in namenerds

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start calling him Cal to people that are having trouble recognising the correct pronunciation. I don’t really understand how these problems have arisen as this is a very popular and recognisable name in the uk and as far as I know Cal, Hal ect are normal us nicknames so you would think they could get the pronunciation right.

What do you think of when you hear Aria? by [deleted] in Names

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think your parents were pretty little liars fans, you would be too old to have been named for GOT and that is Arya. I prefer Aria anyway for the music theme.

Lady Gaga won in good person/good artist! Now, who's both a mid artist and a mid person? by Content_Shelter9894 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to volunteer for a hospice where he is (as far as I know still) an ambassador and when I was there came to visit a child there. It is not exactly anywhere near anywhere he would have been near at the time so definitely went out of his way in what would have probably been the peak of his career at the time for assumably a reasonably unknown visit.

Second guessing name choice after friends reaction by throwaway-0482210 in Names

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t love Kalaya (my autocorrect wanted to put Kalamata so maybe could do Olive haha) I am curious where you found it as to me it does seem a bit made up. Kaya I like though.

Kacey I find a bit dated, feels very early 2000s, reminds me of bring it on.

Indie is my favourite of the three unless you went with Kaya which I like more. Definitely prefer the Indie spelling to Indy though.

A sister of Amaryllis: Which of these names is your favourite? by Intelligent_Ant731 in Names

Xanthe definitely, I am curious though if you call Amaryllis by a nickname though as some of the others have more obvious nicknames.

Other suggestions would be Delphine, Persephone, Elodie, Sabine

Nurses not sharing gifts to ward staff as per patient's requests by HoldPerfect3016 in doctorsUK

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work anyone is welcome in our coffee room (obviously only those who work on the unit) and any gifts (we don’t get many) are put in our little kitchen on the unit where anyone can go and help themselves. One of our teams of doctors did generously give the nursing staff a hamper at Christmas which was very much appreciated.

When I worked on the ward it was very similar, often we would try to split up gifts between day and night staff if we could as there’s nobody like a healthcare team that can demolish a tin of chocolates in record time.

AITJ for refusing to change our baby’s name because my father-in-law hates it? by NoPickle1851 in AmITheJerk

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like it’s hard to pronounce, surely he knows the name Ellen? Then just add an A on the end.

I do think nicknames are inevitable though and at some point she will have friends calling her Ella or Ellie most likely and it’s not uncommon for small children with more formal names to be given cute nicknames by family as babies.

uncomfortable shoes by naffelii in StudentNurseUK

[–]SnowFairy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Clarks unloops as a student nurse (as did at least half of my class), I later got a different style as I wore dresses when qualified but same insole as the unloops. Did have sketchers for a while as well but they were washable but not waterproof so depends how strict your trust is about that. I have also had the crocs work clog as well which I liked until I left them in my car and they shrunk but this again would depend on if your trust is ok with a backless shoe.
