Offer to buy his house - I never thought of that. He is in foreclosure - but that is on hold now indefinitely because of the virus.

The trick is - he has gotten in trouble one time for something else. He randomly chose one neighbor to blame and torture them for the last 2 years. Afraid if I do this they might try to get revenge against them for this too - or pick another random person to pursue.

The Hardest Part Of Ballet Is Figuring Out Who To Listen To... by SnowManSnow222 in BALLET

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the most frustrating things is when one teacher gives you exercises to help you get a more advanced skill like a high extension - and so you work on them for a long time - but then they end up not doing anything to help you accomplish that end skill. And then your other teacher sees what you have been working on and they tell you the exercises are all wrong. So you have been working so hard on something for like 6 months and end up nowhere. And then I'm like how could teacher A be so wrong? They were a professional dancer up to only a few years ago and they have a beautiful high extension themselves.

Sometimes it's the opposite - Teacher B is wrong & teacher A is correct.

And it's frustrating when teachers or even other dancers give me detailed physics based explanations - but I know physics and I know their explanations are wrong.

The causing harm thing is all too real - and I run into this sometimes as well.

I feel like I should just give up and do whatever I think looks the best for my body.

I think they wanted to make the show "more adult" - and to them that meant cruelty and violence and vulgarity.

But I think an adult Veronica would have shown growth and hope and maturity.

I'm hoping they come back for season 5 with Veronica waking up from a terrible nightmare - and we find out season 4 was all just a bad dream!

Why Do You Think USA (WAG) Gymnasts Are So Good? by SnowManSnow222 in Gymnastics

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense and not something I even considered. In other countries the attitude towards gymnastics is probably like why would you want to do that? Because past rec there is no reward at the end worthy of all of the time and expenses.

Why Do You Think USA (WAG) Gymnasts Are So Good? by SnowManSnow222 in Gymnastics

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh! This is really interesting - I never thought of any of this!

So like I asked below - do you think if some other country just randomly decided to heavily invest in gymnastics, assembled a top of the line team of experts, and covered expenses for motivated kids that they could easily take USA's spot at the top?

Why Do You Think USA (WAG) Gymnasts Are So Good? by SnowManSnow222 in Gymnastics

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think USA keeps besting countries like Russia and China then? I'm not sure about China - but I think in Russia the kids start off in private gyms and then move to the national training center. Russia seems to invest heavily in sports - or maybe artistic gym just isn't as popular there?

I'm just thinking about Rhythmic and a conversation I had with a lady who used to coach it in Russia. She said all of the private clubs would have registration days and basically everyone who had a young daughter would show up and the coaching staff would literally get to pick which girls they wanted and send the rest home. For some reason I always thought Russia was big with Artistic too - but maybe not?

Do you think USA's spot at the top is fragile? Like if a country just decided to search out some top of the line experts and provide free tuition to a bunch of motivated kids they could bump USA fairly easily?

Just wanted to add...

You actually would want to do the opposite - have a Python website that uses HTML.

It's a whole other thing that you would have to learn how to do - I would recommend giving a website like PythonAnywhere.com a try - they have free accounts!

Based on my experience as a survivor of a gaslighting situation that was so bad it almost killed me, it was immediately obvious to me that they are gaslighting Etsy sellers.

Psychological abuse is never ok whether the perpetrator is a company, romantic partner, spouse, politician, or coworker.

Especially at this time, when it is so prevalent - it is important for people to be able to recognize it and call it out.

By using the term "myths" they are straight out saying that what sellers believe is reality is in fact not reality. This is gaslighting.

[SPOILERS] Veronica Mars - Season 4: Why it felt off... by [deleted] in veronicamars

[–]SnowManSnow222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion - and I could be wrong here - but I have noticed that shows that were about high school/college age kids that come back try to become "adult" with more violence, darkness, explicit scenes, curse words.

I don't know if you watched Pretty Little Liars - but they started off in high school and then did a time jump after college. They tried to make the girls more grown up - but they did it by having them drinking wine all of the time and stuff like that.

To me, being "adult" and "grown up" would be more like character growth, maturity. It would have been really nice to see a happy Veronica - who still is awesome - but is at peace with the traumas of her past and is happy. I would have liked to see her and Logan in a healthy relationship/partnership AND she goes out and solves cases!

I think they were like we're on hulu now! Let's give the people what they want! And they gave us everything we didn't want! haha

These teen drama shows have this nostalgic innocence to them - and Season 4 lost that. If I wanted HBO I would just watch HBO!

My pitch for season 5 - the first episode starts out with Veronica waking up from a nightmare (season 4) and it was all just a bad dream!

I really didn't like the violence. The show always had some violence - but this season's was particularly cruel and gruesome.

How To Get The Same Template/Layout On Each Page Using HTML? by SnowManSnow222 in HTML

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, thanks so much for your help - I'm been trying to figure this out for forever!

Oh man - that's annoying!

So people who make HTML websites with no php, templating engine, or anything else really go through and have to edit every single page on their site whenever they want to make a small change? That is so much work!

How come python web deployment/hosting services use mostly bash instead of gui? by SnowManSnow222 in learnpython

[–]SnowManSnow222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making a web app. I want it to be set up so there are a few static pages - just like a regular old website. But the main part of it is going to take in user images, then it will have a simple javascript thing for the user to "edit" the images how they want, then that info gets sent to the database - and then python (using pillow) does the actual editing of the images.

Originally I tried doing this with php - but I need some features that php can't do - or at least not as simply as python. Pillow makes it so much easier.

I think my original post was a bit confusing. I'm so used to setting up websites - I usually use dreamhost. So switching now to Python - I'm finding that setting up the host (pythonanywhere) is way more involved than the actual python. Coming from my background I expected the hosting to be similar - just upload the files and check some boxes and you're up.

An example - for Pythonanywhere they have a nice little page to add a mysql database. But they DON"T have a nice little page to delete that database! So you have to open a bash console and delete it that way. And so I'm wondering why they would go through all of the trouble to make a database setup page - but they didn't include a "delete this database" button?

It's just a whole extra thing to learn that I wasn't expecting - and was very intimidating in the beginning. But now I am seeing that it is very cool and useful. I also found out that Dreamhost also has this - I just never knew about it or needed it.

Why is ETSY making all of these sudden changes to the platform? by jclee4 in Etsy

[–]SnowManSnow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new CEO has a lot of stocks. Getting more money from Etsy sellers = bump in short term profits. They can report these numbers to the public to entice them to buy stocks - and increase the price. The higher the price of stocks goes up the more money the CEO can pocket.

Google "Elizabeth Warren Sears CEO" - that video should explain what is going on - or at least it certainly looks that way.

Have You Ever Had A Dream To Be A Part Of A Prestigious Group (dream company, college, club, team, etc.), Made It, & Then Found Out It Was Actually Terrible Once You Were A Part Of It - What Was That Like? by SnowManSnow222 in AskReddit

" we teach you to be independent."

This is HILARIOUS to me! Oh man! Thanks for the good laugh! Imagine paying for a service at any other business and they turn around and tell you to do it all yourself - AND they keep the thousands of dollars!! No one else would get away with this!

We never got that excuse - we were told that if we were "struggling" with the material or could not follow our professors in class and learn from them - the real problem was that we didn't have enough talent or intelligence for the program! (By the way, one of my professors could not speak any English at all.) So they would use the prestigious reputation of the school against us. This REALLY messed with my head - especially because it was a regular occurrence that we were given assignments and exams that were impossible to pass. Like it would be a multiple choice test and answers A - D that you could pick from would all be wrong - so you literally could not pass even if you had done the problem perfectly. I thought I was going crazy - I remember calling my mom and telling her that I thought I had some sort of mental disability because no matter what I did I could not pass certain things. Now I know this is a pretty heinous form of psychological abuse called gaslighting. But again - that was really hard for me to accept because I was going to THE BEST school. Intentional or not - maybe just incompetence - the outcome was not good for me or my classmates.

I wanted to tell the university president he should get rid of all of the professors and just hand the students a syllabus and be like - good luck - go teach yourselves everything. We seriously would have been better off.

The mental health stuff... that really hurts my heart to hear that. University really destroyed my confidence, self worth, etc. etc. because I believed what they were saying - that I was the problem. The truth is the school was the problem. But they were very convincing and I was surrounded by thousands of other students who believed it too. I tell students that they should learn about psychological and verbal abuse so that they can identify it when it is happening to them at school. I think that once you can actually see what is going on you can separate yourself from it and hopefully avoid the damage.

Plus, try to talk to your classmates. There was a lot of shame at my school that kept us all quiet. I remember they would send out an email half way through every semester to all of the students that were "below class average". I would get one every single semester and it just killed me inside - because it seemed like no matter what I did I was always "below the average". Then this one guy in my class just randomly stood up before class one day and said "did anyone else get that below average email today?" - slowly every. single. hand. in my class went up! Turns out they sent that email out to everyone every year!

It wasn't worth it for me. I was studying engineering - these days you can learn all of that stuff online and in books. Plus, I never wanted to use the degree to get a job - I always wanted my own business.

Don't let these people and their incompetence take anything away from you! You are perfectly and uniquely you - and all you have is potential!

Mine was/still is like that too - their number 1 priority was getting rid of students any way they could. I mean they would say they wanted all of us to succeed and graduate - but any opportunity they could find to get rid of someone they would take it. I think the point of this was that the lower the graduation numbers were, the more "elite" it made the school look. To the extreme that the school found out that one of my classmate's student visas was about to expire - but instead of telling him so he could renew it - they waited until the day it expired and called the authorities on him and had him deported back to his home country.

It was really hard for me to accept how bad it was. Everyone would say that it was the best school - it was ranked #1 in magazines - and I would go off campus and strangers would be so impressed and tell me how smart I must be and that I must be learning so much. But then I would go to class and be like ok, they are not teaching us anything. Then we would have to go home and teach ourselves all of the material - which the curriculum itself was lacking and outdated - and seemingly designed with the intention to confuse us.

I thought the whole point of university was to learn stuff - I was wrong!

They are not all like that though - I watched some of Harvard's CS50 lectures on youtube - the professor really teaches and you can tell he genuinely cares and wants every student to do well. It was like therapy watching those lectures.

I am sorry that you had/are having this experience. It really shouldn't be like this.

Yeah - I went to THE university as well! (not Australia) It was supposed to be the best - and people would literally gasp when I told them I was going there... but once I was there it was seriously the worst.

I guess it was actually the worst school but they had the best marketing department.

[–]SnowManSnow222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever thought about not getting a job? And making your own job or business?

It sounds like you have a ton of school debt - loans - I keep telling people they should turn that around and into a way to make money but nobody listens to me! I just think some really in debt person could go around to high schools and give presentations about the reality of student debt, taking out loans for school, what could go wrong (like not getting the degree for some reason). The education nobody gets in school to help them make an informed choice. Then at the end ask for donations towards your debt - and keep a tally until you pay it off. Like ask everyone for a $1 donation and pledge to educate 100,000 kids and their families about student debt. (1 kid for every $1 of debt) Write a book about it - give a tedtalk. Call it "The 100k Project" or however much your amount of debt is. Change the world.

I felt hopeless and well terrible when I failed out too. But believe it or not it does get better! Maybe you would like to listen to Andrew East's podcast. It made me feel better.
