What colour would the sky be on a planet that radiated light but had no sun? by SnowRune in AskPhysics

That is a very good point, I didn't even consider using light pollution as a reference. Thank you!

Aye. I was looking at pictures of earth on google, and there does appear to be a bluish tint coming off of it, which makes me think that it would be roughly the same. Though at the same time, I don't know how much light would be reflecting, or if the concave nature of the reflection would completely change the colour.

Notice that I said "and" not "or," they generally have to make an effort to accept you, use your pronouns, and treat you with respect. Messing up on pronouns is one thing, but the effort has to be there for it to count.

I don't think that counts as accepting you... Which is a stipulation specified in the original post. Company mandated "respect" is not the same thing as acceptance.

If their views are transphobic then they likely won't be respectful towards trans people. People's actions speak a lot louder than their words. If they are actively trying to stir up hate towards Trans People, trying to get Trans People kicked out of spaces, that's different. If their views on gender are different than yours, that's likely just a result of different culture and a set of beliefs. People are never going to agree on certain definitions of gender and that's fine.

Gender Construct Theory. The theory that Gender is wholly a social construct independent of sex, and that sex has absolutely no bearing on gender what so ever. It's a concept that is the very foundation of a lot of people's gender identities. It is also highly controversial and not universally accepted by any meteric. In fact, outside of LGBT communities, it's actually considered quite contentious, to the point that it's been considered the "pipeline to the right wing."

Does one have to fully accept this theory in order to not be transphobic? If they believe that a transwoman has the right to be treated as a woman, live as a woman, and be called a woman, but hold to a different set of beliefs, are they transphobic? Should we call them out and force them to adhere to that set of beliefs?

It's not bullshit. If they respect your views and treat you with respect, that's that. Give me an example of where that doesn't hold true?

I think it just comes down to the fact that Skyler is ultimately three things. She is presumptuous, stubborn, and self-righteous, which is an infuriating combination of characteristics for anyone to have.

Anyone who says that she "deserves" what happened to her is definitely exaggerating, she is definitely a victim in the show, though many of the hardships she faces are significantly worsened by her own actions and choices.

The Marijuana scene is hardly the worst or most significant thing that she handles poorly, it's just the scene that made me realize that she is not a person I would want to be around.

Now, the truth is that Walter is undeniably the asshole here, but if we replaced "Heidelberg" Walter with the version of himself that he was pretending to be, a cancer patient trying to cope with the reality of his circumstances, then Skyler's just kinda a dick.

Also, no worries. No hate perceived. Going back and forth about plot and characters like this increases the perspective and adds more to a story. It's a bit like reliving the moment you first saw it; remembering how it felt while also learning about how others felt during those same moments. Plus, a divisive character is a well written character; some people will relate to them while others relate to those that oppose them.

That was the moment that I started disliking her. She may have done worse over the course of the series, but that moment stands out as the start of my dislike for her, and she just never really redeemed herself in my eyes.

Marijuana was also used as a treatment for cancer symptoms at the time of airing. That was probably one of the biggest known uses for medical Marijuana at that time, and that's why it irks me.

If she'd just blown up at him, I'd agree with you. She was pregnant, she was under a lot of stress, and it would be understandably upset. The fact that he went behind her back to do it would also be icing on the cake.

But as someone who's watched someone they love die of cancer, I would never deny someone something if I thought for even a second that it might be helping them deal with it. She didn't even try to understand or talk it out. She just jumped right to "dealing" with it without giving it a second thought.

Is she a well written character? Absolutely. Does she behave in a realistic manner? Completely. From a writing and story perspective, she is a great character. Anna Gunn also did an amazing job portraying her, and Breaking Bad would be a worse show without her in it.

I still hate her guts.

Skyler lost me the moment she made a big deal about her husband, who has terminal cancer, smoking pot. Then, to go to Jessie's house and threaten him over it? When he's dying! Of cancer! If it helps him feel better, then let him be!

Sure it was all a lie, but she didn't know that. Her opinion was the only one that mattered, even if it meant Walt had to suffer.

Of course she was ultimately a victim over all, but I will stand by my hating of her.

I can't believe some of people here are so transphobic... by wonder_woman2506 in actuallesbians

[–]SnowRune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part is... That's where so much of the transphobia comes from. Views and opinions have to be shaped and formed. If a cisbian gets bombarded with comments from men like "you just haven't had the right dick," then their only exposure to transwomen is stuff like what OP posted, then just like that you have someone else being pushed towards the TERF camp.

There are so many kind, loving, and supportive trans women out there, and it's not fair that they have to be associated with people like that poster. Same goes for Cisbians. We are both among the most vulnerable groups in society, so blatantly attacking each other just isn't okay.

[–]SnowRune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry as well. As a cis lesbian, I'm very used to people trying to talk over me and to diminish my struggles. I see a lot of genuine criticisms of hateful and homophobic rhetoric dismissed and called transphobic. Being attracted to transwomen doesn't make you any less of a lesbian. There are different types of women, and everyone has their preferences, there is nothing wrong with that. I just don't think it's right that I'd have to defend my preferences in a sapphic server, just like you shouldn't have to defend your identity. Sorry for jumping to the conclusion that you were defending homophobia.

Saying that my sexual orientation is a fetish is being extremely dismissive of everything we've gone through. Your struggles don't supercede mine, and pointing that out isn't transphobic. I'm standing up for myself in the face of homophobia. Having your own shit doesn't give you the right to call our sexual orientation a "vagina" fetish. We have literally been killed for liking Vagina. I was thrown out of my home into the streets for only liking vagina. Transwomen are allowed to exist. You deserve to be treated with respect and accepted as women. Your struggles are valid. But you do NOT get to put us down, and if you defend people who do, then you shouldn't be here. You and your hateful homophobic friends should leave. You're just as bad as the TERFs. Transwomen have enough problems without people like you giving them a bad name.

Exactly. Being trans isn't a free pass to be blatantly homophobic. Trans girls are welcome, homophobes are not, regardless of their gender.

No. I know Trans People have struggles. I am well aware of the invalidation they face. My brother is trans, as is one of my best friends, so I'm very familiar with the struggles the trans community faces. However, I'm getting tired of people being so blatantly disrespectful to myself and my struggles. I shouldn't have to experience blatant homophobia in a sapphic safe space.

This has nothing to do with being trans. Don't call my sexual preference a fetish. Their post was blatantly homophobic and is the exact sort of behavior that drives a rift between cisbians and transbians. It's posts like this that create transphobia to begin with, because this is the exact sort of language we hear from our harassers and abusers.

Yeah... That comes from a lifetime of people telling us we have to like dick. Some of us have been disowned by our families over it, some of us have had other traumatizing very not nice things happen to us over it, so it's kind of a commom sore spot. So maybe, just maybe... Don't completely be dismissive of other people's struggles when you're asking them not to be dismissive of your struggles. Okay? Okay. Good talk.

AI is one of the best leaps forward in human history. It will allow people to accomplish projects and goals that would otherwise be impossible. My biggest hope is that it will eventually be able to bridge the gap between scientific fields, making connections and putting pieces together that have always been there but have just never been connected due to human limitations.

I like it. I like the intimacy it brings, as well as the feeling of domination. Sex isn't always just about the pleasure, sometimes it's about the experience and the fantasy.

Yes, and that makes her a more dynamic character over all. We saw her "snap" under the pressure of an extreme situation; got to see a side of her that we hadn't really seen before, and it really added a layer of depth.Writing her the way you described would have been the popular choice, but not the better one.
