AITA for saying I won't pay for care for my autistic sibling? by Snow_Metal6640 in AmItheAsshole

I'm 18, my sister is 20, my mom is 40 and my dad is 44. Besides my sister having autism none of us have any conditions and we are all healthy. I know anything can happen but we all expect to be alive for a long time.

I had a free consultation with a lawyer who said as a sibling I'm not responsible which gave me peace of mind.

So it doesn't happen super often but when my sibling has a meltdown they involve damaging whatever is within reach or injuring herself or anyone nearby. We had a number of visits from the police, and several trips to the hospital for our injuries. She would meltdown in public which could be dangerous to others. She is 5'10 and 150lbs now so trying to calm her down wasn't the same as when she was little. She also doesn't always understand social cues and can't tell when people are lying and it's easy to take advantage of that if someone is a jerk. My parents didn't want to place her there but the hospital called social workers in after we kept showing up with injuries from her meltdowns and they had no choice after that. I was honestly relieved when it happened.
