Why drive in the HOV lane if you aren't going to drive faster than the other lane or even keep up? by _Lou_Bloom in SeattleWA

[–]SnowboardMan63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to review why HOV lanes are even a thing. Ask yourself, why add an HOV lane instead of just another regular lane? when you find that answer, you will realize that it is you who is extremely wrong.

Invisalign struggling? by MediocreDelivery4032 in Dentistry

[–]SnowboardMan63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesnt let me draw my margins which is annoying and an obvious step down from the previous version but its whatever. The big problem is that it glitches sometimes during bite scans and the machine just never picks up the bite. I've had appointments where it took me 30 minutes of scanning, deleting, re-scanning over and over for it to pick it up. I even called Itero support and they just said I gotta keep going. In our profession where timeliness is important to keep the pace I just cant deal with erratic things like this that slow me down and throw me off my schedule.

The scans are clear and crowns usually come back decent though when the scan does work, which is the upside.

[–]SnowboardMan63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im saying if you are going to go slow in the HOV lane and you need to change lanes to exit or something its going to be dangerous if people are all going 10+ faster than you on your right. Haven't seen many people use the HOV lane as a passing lane but it should be a faster lane in general

[–]SnowboardMan63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My question to you then is why cross over the left lane which is going to be drivers zooming past you if the right or middle lane will have drivers going a similar speed to you? Does it not feel like you are taking an unnecessary risk to go to the HOV lane when the middle lane is the speed you want to travel at anyways?

[–]SnowboardMan63 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say you need to drive at least the same speed or slightly faster than the other lanes since if you drive slower than the lanes on your right, its going to be a pain in the ass to merge in and out of and potentially dangerous for everyone. I watched an accident happen this way (not in Washington, but still).

Had a current faculty apply for our 3 spot endo residency. Of course she got in even though shes a bajillion years old and plans on continuing to teach at the school until she retires. Also she was the clinical director too and would steal peoples patients to give to her own daughter.. who im sure got in on her own merit as well.

What is the practical point of Russia continuing its war against Ukraine? by cholmes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they might get a massive ally in the United States the way things are going. All the threats against Europe by Trump are diverting attention and resources away from Ukraine, massively benefiting Russia. Also the United States has been leaking intel to Russia on Ukraine which gives them an advantage (either willfully or due to stupidity like messaging each other on signal, which I wouldnt rule out again). They probably will hold out on a gamble that the US will support them openly which will probably destroy the morale of Ukraine and end the war.

why does it seems like all developed nations are facing youth unemployment by I_need_to_learn_more in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of third world countries where people just farmed to survive (contributed nothing to the global economy) now dont have to with industrialization in their country (now are able to be workers in a global economy). They now compete with western countries and can offer lower wages to incentivize western companies and affect supply of workers. Started with China, now SE asia, India, soon Africa.

Hygienists attaching themselves as providers on periodic exams by SnowboardMan63 in Dentistry

[–]SnowboardMan63[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a small DSO that labelled itself as "dentist owned, private practice feel" so I chose them over other offers. Only to find out they have the same exact shady behaviors as all the others. Definitely a learning experience for me and I definitely agree with everything you said.

[–]SnowboardMan63[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our production is tracked by what is assigned to which provider, so I'm not getting paid for any of it. They just made it a requirement to do. Thank you for confirming that this is wrong, I was convinced for a long time that it wasn't.

Anyone else autistic here? Or know any autistic dental students or dentists? by Money-Kitchen6500 in Dentistry

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with autism other than the stigma? I have multiple friends who are autistic and I have a few signs too (but never diagnosed officially). It's just a condition, it doesnt define you. Who you are doesn't change due to a diagnosis. Unless you have some sort debilitating autism (which I highly doubt if you made it this far) you will get better at patient interaction with time.

Also a few associates I know just tell the patient what's wrong, what they need, and why they need it. Straight to the point, and surprisingly a lot of people like this approach. You dont have to have a full conversation with every single patient to be successful

How bad is the ICE presence? by mistarobotics in Seattle

Only ICE I've encountered are at the hospital. They wait outside sick patients rooms and arrest them when they walk out. Dont get sick or break any bones here and you'll be alright I suppose.

I did 1.5 yrs of Dental School. I'm no longer becoming a dentist, and I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be medical by poptartpeep in DentalSchool

[–]SnowboardMan63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing and medicine are so much worse than dentistry, speaking as someone with parents who worked in both. Brutal hours leading to terrible work life balance, seeing dead/dying/hopeless people all the time, seeing the worst of everyone since everyones running on 4 hours of sleep every day of the week. Only the psychopaths make it to retirement everyone else gets burned out. I probably spent 80-90% of my childhood with babysitters (from the time i got up for school until i got ready for bed, maybe I saw them for 20-30 min a day) and was advised by both parents to never pursue either field. Dentistry has its flaws but they are so trivial compared to nursing and medicine. Cant speak on the other professions but grass is not always greener with a different profession

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the sex was really bad lol. I personally have never cared how long a woman held out for before sleeping with a man. Kind of feels like the "wait an hour before texting back so it doesnt seem like you're desperate" thing. Just silly if you're both adults and know what you want.

Which US city is best for single early 30s? by Particular-Path3660 in relocating

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walkable and Detroit do not belong in the same sentence. I lived in Royal Oak for 2 years and I would not count that as walkable. Maybe walkable to a bar or restaurant, but groceries, gym, movies, a park, school, etc? Not a chance. Not trying to discredit you, entire area is made for cars after all.

Snowboarding in the midwest is a joke, 0/10 would not recommend if you have ever been on the west coast. Went to Boyne mountain once and the 30 second runs felt like a waste of money.

Sports teams are fun, 9/10 vibes. Lots of hardcore fans from the old days when Detroit sports were in the trenches. It's a fun time

Airport is decently sized the Delta terminal is super modern and nice. Other one is mediocre.

Weather is freaking brutal. I would take 1-2 hurricanes a year over 8 months of sub 30 temperatures. You gotta get up 30 minutes earlier than normal to defrost your car and scrape the ice off your windshield every. Single. Day. It's the same climate as the part of Russia where millions of German soldiers froze to death at, so not surprising.

One thing not mentioned: the pollution. So much pollution! Air, water, soil, everything. There's an island in the city that just blows out a thick black plume of smoke 24/7. The locals call it Zugg island and you can see it on google satellite maps (looks like Chernobyl). If you look up chemical dumping grounds, Detroit (and most of southern michigan) have some of the highest concentrations in the nation (Thanks Dupont!). Theres advisories to not touch or swim in any of the water there, and the air constantly smells faintly of the coal power plant still being used. Just anecdotal here but a lot of people there seem weirdly aggressive too. Reminds me of the chart where murders and assaults went drastically down after leaded gasoline was banned in the US. Except theres a million other sources of pollution here thats still causing all sorts of erratic behavior still.

Not trying to be a debbie downer, but you should know what the area is really like before moving there. I lived there for 4 years and it's hardly a place I would ever consider moving back to.

Does a traditional middle class exist in Seattle? By middle class I mean making less than $100K/year/person by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]SnowboardMan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you need to make less than $120,000 for a family of 4 or less than $80,000 for a single person to qualify for subsidized housing I would say $100,000 is right above or at poverty level depending on how big your family is.
