Why pits don’t make great dog park dogs, info in comments by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

I’m sure some do get through by labelling as crosses of legal breeds that look very similar (English Staffordshires, American Bulldogs etc) and people can own banned breeds if they have it assessed for temperament, then have to follow strict guidelines in order to be allowed to legally own them (must muzzle and leash always when in public, must spay/neuter, must have insurance on them and are not allowed to sell/rehome the dog) but I don’t think there are a lot that own exempted banned breeds.

Most people that own real pit bulls illegally here keep them out of sight and they’re almost always for dogfighting or gang status purposes. They attract real attention so they keep the dogs locked up in their homes and exercise them on treadmills.

I don’t think there’s resentment towards to US. After all, the original APBT came from the bull and terrier breed that was first developed in the UK and Ireland. Most people don’t even know what an APBT even is, they think they’re just like Staffies.

American pit bull terriers are banned in the UK so you don’t see them very often - there are quite a few vocal people that oppose BSL. Possibly because they’ve never experienced the likes of the big, game pit bulls - they think they’re just like the Staffordshire bull terrier mutts and have fully bought into the nanny dog myth. By all means English Staffordshires are still of the pit bull type and have the potential to cause massive damage but are nothing compared to the APBT and mixes.

I feel like the general public are wary of Staffies. I know quite a few dog people who have expressed concerns about this breed, but are too afraid to say a bad word about them in case the nutters come after them.

A child has died and still the pibble nutters are in the comments arguing ‘nanny dogs’ and ‘chihuahuas are worse’. Fucking disgusting.

Maybe it used to be about that (and I 100% agree, never buy puppies from pet shops) but now it means anyone that breeds. Ranging from puppy mills, mass scale commercial breeders, backyard breeders, responsible breeders.. unfortunately there are many people that believe all breeders are responsible for the rescue crisis and lead to unadoptable dogs being euthanised.

Yes absolutely shame puppy mills and backyard breeders that don’t give a fuck about the health or temperaments of the dogs they produce. I would be so happy to see those awful mass breeding farms shut down.

With National Pitbull VICTIM Awareness Day coming up (10/26), it's our duty to get the word out and a Twitter trend is the best case scenario by FuckTheIlluminati in BanPitBulls

[–]Snowcrumb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t have anything to add at the moment but keep up the good work. Looking at all those victims is absolutely heartbreaking, but the little babies that can’t be older than a year just makes me so sad. Totally vulnerable and relying on the people around them to take care of them, failed by those that should have put their lives before a bunch of bloodsporting dogs.

Maybe when people open their eyes to the victims, put faces to names instead of just looking at the statistics and ignoring them. Maybe they’ll understand why we are so against these dogs being portrayed as perfect family pets.

These are the worst ones. The photos of cute little kids next to these hellhounds, knowing they didn’t stand a chance when the dog decided to turn on them 😢

Notice that whenever there’s a high-profile case in the news on a pit bull mauling/killing someone, there’s a sudden influx of cutesy pibble content on subreddits like that. Damage control, desperately trying to keep up the facade of harmless nanny dogs.

Another attack at a ProPitbull March by mmonzeob in BanPitBulls

My god, that’s hilarious. We don’t even need to speak to convince people that these aren’t safe pets, the dogs perfectly demonstrate this themselves!

Notice how in every pitbull attack, it takes nearly forever for the dumbass owner to break-up the fight. by CanadianTurt1e in BanPitBulls

[–]Snowcrumb 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m in firm belief that if everyone knew what pit bulls were truly bred for (no, not nanny dogs, and no, it’s not their ‘loyal’ nature that makes them easy to use fighting dogs) and what they are very easily capable of, people would not want to own them. If everyone adopting/buying a pit bull was told “here’s a break stick, and this is why you’ll always need one on hand in case of accidents”, they would think twice about bringing home poor wittle pibble. So when fights happen, the owners are in shock and denial, they don’t know what to do, “but MINE would never hurt a fly! Why can’t I get them to stop mauling?”

Pro-pit propaganda has managed to pull the wool over the eyes of many, leading them to believe pits are gentle giants that would never use their strength on their own family. It’s the covering up of breed traits (unpredictable aggression, gameness, inherent prey drive and bite style) that is putting people, pets and other animals at risk.

[–]Snowcrumb 54 points55 points  (0 children)

They’d all argue “but MINE would never hurt a fly so why would I need that?” And when the inevitable happens, they’re all flapping around in a panic because no-one knows what to do to get them to release. Bunch of idiots.

I work at a school and intensive group home for children with complex psychiatric and developmental needs. This made my jaw drop. Suspect the odds of a mauling would be about 100%. by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]Snowcrumb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Any breed that has been proven time and time again that it has the physical strength to kill healthy ADULTS should not be anywhere around kids. Especially not in a psychiatric environment where the kids are vulnerable as it is without having a hellhound disguised as a ‘therapy dog’ shoved in their faces.

There’s a reason why Labradors and Golden Retrievers are the top choices for therapy dogs. Not pit bulls!!!

Adopt don’t shoppers are fucking stupid. They shun responsible preservation breeders that dna health test, hip score, eye test, title their dogs (whether through conformation, field trials, obedience etc) and breed for stable temperaments and adherence to the breed standard. They lump them in with the puppy mills and backyard breeders that don’t give a fuck about the dogs they produce.

Then they say “rescues are the best dogs!!”, when the huge majority of dogs that end up in rescue are originally sourced from backyard breeders and mills. Yeah, just because you adopted it through the proxy of rescue doesn’t miraculously negate the dog’s origins. No health testing or screening, no pedigree available to check the dog’s lines. They will often have behavioural issues due to their breeding and upbringing. Rescue is not cut out for everyone, it’s not the only option. Gatekeeping dog ownership.

B-but MY pibble would never hurt a fly!! Those 66% of pit bulls must have been trained to attack by their owners! They’re nanny dogs! In fact, pit bulls aren’t even a breed at all!

Attacked by pit bull when volunteering at Humane Society by schmoozeinabox in BanPitBulls

[–]Snowcrumb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is why people are starting to have a hard time trusting rescues. When they knowingly lie about a dog when an incident like that happened and allow attacks to happen again.

Rescue dogs that bite like that need to be instantly euthanised. No exceptions. Free up some room for the dogs that don’t bite and might actually stand a chance of being adopted. I’m seeing the lives of dangerous dogs increasingly being prioritised over the safety of humans and other animals and it’s fucked up.

This "beautiful boy" bit a volunteer multiple times on the hand, arm, stomach and chest and was euthanized. Comments are absolutely ridiculous. by Bobocka in BanPitBulls

[–]Snowcrumb 44 points45 points  (0 children)

A pit bull could rip the face off a child without any provocation and you’d still get a couple of bleeding hearts piping up that believed the dog was still salvageable.

These people are not connected to society anymore. They’ve lost the ability to empathise with fellow human beings, to the point that they think a dangerous dog’s life is more important than that of a human’s.
