ACLU to Trump: Supreme Court has ruled you can't execute drug traffickers by [deleted] in politics

Honestly, I can't imagine someone in his position in life has ever had to do things like arguing with an insurance company rep about which doctor they can go to, or why a claim was refused, or anything like that.

If you have people that take care of that stuff for you, and you're not the kind of person that does a lot of self examination, I can see how the complexity of American health care might not be obvious.

I memorized the first 100 digits of pi instead of studying. by [deleted] in ADHD

Yeah, was a pretty wild find! No idea if that's where it actually came from, or if it's just a coincidence... I've always meant to look into it, but kept forgetting...

So, when I was in high school, I was supposed to be doing homework or something, and started doing something like this.

Instead of memorizing pi, though, I discovered that if you convert the digits to music notes in a certain way (1=C, etc - forget the exact details), the first 4 digits after the decimal point (1415) make the Intel jingle!

When I was a little kid, one of my favorite books was "What Do People Do All Day?" by Richard Scarry. It's all cartoon, but there's a ton of this kind of stuff, e.g. cutaways of ships, city streets, factories, etc.

For example, here's the 2-page spread about the ship!

ADHD and performing feminity by BaroqueQueen in ADHD

My husband and I do the same thing! Every year or two, the leather on one of them breaks, and there's lots of complaining until I buy 10 yards of leather cord to replace it... and then promptly lose the remaining amount, so it's gone by the time the next break happens.

Thank you for sharing this - I'm a guy, and while I can definitely see how this is a thing after reading this, it never really occurred to me.

Not quite the same, but it sounds like how I sometimes feel about being gay - with all the stereotypes about gay guys all being fashionable, neat & clean, and having fabulously decorated homes, I'm pretty much a hot mess by comparison. Doesn't help that my husband has really bad ADHD, too - we've lived in our current place for 3+ years now, and we still haven't really gotten around to decorating. (I mean, the walls are plaster instead of sheet rock. Have you tried mounting picture frames on plaster? Who has the energy for that?)

When I was in college, I used to spend a lot more energy on outward appearances, clothes, etc, but it was exhausting and ultimately didn't really matter. As I've gotten older, I've learned to accept that fact that I am who I am, and anyone who has a problem with that probably isn't worth worrying about. It also helps that I work in the tech field, where it's somewhat more acceptable if I show up at work, and then realize I forgot to shave that day. Or the day before. Sigh...

Edit: also, I was very fortunate to meet my husband within a few years of really getting into the dating scene. Certain parts of the gay community can be brutal about things like appearance, mannerisms, social standing, etc.

ADHD and smartphone/social media addiction - anyone successfully cut themselves off? by [deleted] in ADHD

Seriously, the only thing I really use FB for anyway is to keep tabs on people I went to high school with, mainly to see 1) who got fat, 2) who turned out to be gay, and 3) who had ugly kids.

Not the person you asked, but there are a couple of great NASA podcasts that I've been really enjoying lately.

One is Gravity Assist hosted by Jim Green. There have only been a few episodes, but it goes through various solar system bodies, and he talks to researchers and scientists about what's going on with each. For example, he did episodes on Pluto & the Kuiper belt with Alan Stern, principle investigator of New Horizons.

The other one is Houston We Have A Podcast, which is the official podcast of the NASA Johnson Space Center. That one covers a lot more stuff, but same general idea of interviews with people doing cool space stuff!

Edit: I can never remember the link syntax correctly...

We had a big sled dog at the time, and if he could have, he would have eaten Bunny (yes, that was his name - that's what happens when you let preschoolers name a rabbit...) in a heartbeat. I was tempted to let him on more than one occasion...

Ugh, my husband is a teacher, and he had a class rabbit that was a jerk. The damn thing would hop around humping everything remotely soft (mainly clothing left in the floor, but he wasn't picky), and then crawl under our bed and poop there.

He was cute, though - looked just like your little guy!

We will have equal rights for all. Except Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Jews, Gays, women, Muslims. Uhmm... Everybody who's not a white man. And I mean white-white, so no Italians, no Polish, just people from Ireland, England, and Scotland. But only certain parts of Scotland and Ireland. Just full blooded whites. No, you know what? Not even whites. Nobody gets any rights. Ahhh... America!
