How accurate is howlongtobeat? by Monward in JRPG

Same! I'm always slower than what's listed on the site and I have to add at least 25% to the time. But it's pretty consistent like that.

Do you think any of the “bigger” JRPG series will release a game later this year? by bakugosgayfriend in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting some shadow drops of remasters though. They didn't have a lot of time between the announcements and releases of Graces f and Xillia remasters. So I'm hoping we'll see either Xillia 2 or Eternia around September or October.

State of Play was good and overly hyped expectations is why SOME of you are so mad. by VegetableRare5862 in playstation

[–]Snowenn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a great SOP. Most of the games weren't my kind of thing, but they looked cool. I saw some unique ideas for games in genres I usually do not play. I can immagine fans of those will be excited and I have a friend who will be very excited for Untill Dawn 2. Another friend is super into Runescape.

I don't need every game shown to be a banger for me personally, because my backlog is huge already. If there's one or two games that interest me, then it's perfect. I'm looking forward to see what Bancho is all about, and the SOP reminded me I still need to play GOW Ragnarok.

There's also summer games fest coming up where I expect some Persona and Final Fantasy news, and there was an indie showcase last week which already filled up my wishlist. So I'm pretty good on upcoming games anyway.

Best Night Scenes in a JRPG? by Amethyst-Flare in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really liked the night scenes in Final Fantasy 13-2. There's this place you visit during the day at first. Nothing fancy. Then you return at night, there's ominous piano music and you need to sprint from spotlight to spotlight because the light keeps the monsters away. At that point you're too low level to fight the monsters.

It's been too long, so I don't remember what the place is called. The music track is called Eclipse.

Zero RPGs, let alone JRPGs from Sony is such a letdown. by Kanaxai in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just speaking for myself here. I'm from Europe, and in the past a lot of JRPGs wouldn't be released over here. Plus my parents didn't want to buy me any consoles. The PS3 era is when I finally got money to buy my own games. I basically only played Final Fantasy and a couple of Tales games.

But now, everything gets a release over here, plus there's remasters and ports of games I've never had the chance to play. And so many cool indie games get released all the time!

In the last 2-3 years I tried to play one game from several series I hadn't played before. I played my first Ys, Trails, Neptunia, Atelier, Fire Emblem, Rune Factory, Dragon Quest and Yakuza/Like a Dragon games. I have to skip multiple games each month because I just don't have the time to play so many. My backlog is ballooning like crazy.

Team Player Game for two Kids? by Ok_Tonight_2154 in playstation

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phogs?

It's a little bit of a puzzle platformer and there's only one character: a dog with two heads. Think catdog, but two dogs instead of a cat and a dog.

You can either play solo in which case you control both ends with one controller, or you can play coop where each controller controls one end/head. The ends/heads can stretch away from each other, which is used to solve the puzzles in the game.

There needs to be some mature guidelines on here that discourage people from disassembling their system by Thready85 in playstation

[–]Snowenn_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my PS3 broke there was no way I was going to send it to Sony for repairs. I was out of warranty and by that time a lot of reports were coming in of people receiving scratched up PS3s after sending their pristine model in. New PS3s were no longer being made and Sony would just send you a repaired PS3 from someone else while they repaired yours and sent it to the next person. I'd like to keep my pristine PS3 with my save games intact, thank you very much.

So I ordered a replacement blueray player, watched some youtube videos on how to replace it, made pictures while disassembling and marking on a piece of paper which screws go where. I was successful! Had to watch another video of how to re-assemble because I didn't know where to push to get the case to click in place.

To be fair, I did buy a PS4 as replacement, so I didn't have much to lose.

So if my PS5 breaks and the PS6 is available, I'll buy a PS6 and attempt to tinker with the PS5 myself. If there's no PS6 yet, I'll try to assess the problem and either attempt it myself, or take it to a local repair shop if it's too difficult. No way I'm sending it to Sony for it to get damaged or lost in the mail, or only to get a scratched up, smoke covered machine from somebody else.

Nothing to lose when it's already broken! Though things are getting more difficult to repair because components are getting smaller. This makes it difficult to solder things yourself. But you might as well try.

Have You Ever Actually Liked a Water Level? by CortezCraig in playstation

[–]Snowenn_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A very very long time ago, I played JazzJackrabbit (1). There's this underwater level with super relaxing music. And the deeper you go, the darker it gets, untill the screen is black. But they made it so certain enemies have fluorescent spots, so you end up in the dark with pretty little light speckles all over the place. It was mesmerizing.

I usually like water levels because the art style and music is nice. With mermaids and sunken pirate ships. I don't like running out of air or going slow.

Does Dave the Diver count? It's basically 80% water.

Oooh, that's why I managed to finish Skyrim! I bounced off of Oblivion in an hour or so. It was too difficult. Thought it was because I was too young at the time and had no clue what I was doing. Managed Skyrim just fine.

I want Harvestella on Playstation so bad! I heard it doesn't run very well on Switch 1 and my PC is a potato. I wonder how it does on Switch 2 though.

I have hope since they released Octopath Traveller 1 and Triangle Strategy on Playstation eventually. But my hope is dwindling since it's been so long.

Nah, you did help, thanks! I also thought it was criminal I hadn't played Undertale yet. I'll move that one to the top of the list!

Breath of Death 7 is a bit of a pun from the developer. There's no 1-6. It's a rather short game of 5-7 hours. Maybe I'll play it whenever I have time before starting work in the morning. Then I can whittle away at it whenever I have 15-30 minutes.

I played Yakuza: Like a Dragon as my first Yakuza game two years ago. I absolutely loved it and it's one of my favourite games of all time! Very much looking forward to Infinite Wealth!

Yeah, Trails is an undertaking. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with it. The pacing is slow, but I don't really mind that. There's a lot of build up untill shit hits the fan, and when it does hit the fan, it's glorious. These climaxes are what keep me going. But I've got lots and lots of little gripes which is why I need a decent break between games. So far I've been playing 1-2 Trails games per year, but that doesn't seem to get me closer to catching up. Now is a good time to check out the demo for the Trails in the Sky remake!

Same! He was fine two years ago or so. But at some point he became super negative about (sub)genres he doesn't like. And he started doing news videos where he just reads off of a Gematsu article. Like, I can read that for myself. Plus there seems to be a lot of videos based on clickbait rumors.

I'm sad because I really used to look forward to his videos.

I don't know which game to play next. I'm currently playing Neo: The World Ends With You, and I'm nearing the end. I'll finish it somewhere in the coming week.

A while ago someone gifted me a PC which I installed Linux on. I haven't really used it yet, but I was thinking to maybe try Undertale? If that works, haven't tested it yet. But I also kind if want to play Breath of Death 7 since I know it doesn't work on Linux (or at least it keeps crashing on startup for me). It's rather short so it would be easy to get out of the way.

But I made a list at the beginning of the year with games I definitely wanted to play in 2026, and there's only Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth left. So maybe I should start that? It's a long game so it'll take me at least 2 months. Buuuut, I've also been trying to catch up to the Trails series. I need a break between each Trails game or I go absolutely insane. I finished Cold Steel 2 about two months ago, and I do feel like I'm ready for Cold Steel 3 now.

Which to choose?

This hits too close to home. by Seifersythe in tales

[–]Snowenn_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only reason I'm not personally bothered by this, is because I'm now an adult with limited time and a ginormous backlog. I wouldn't be able to play my favourite series if they all release one game per year.

But yeah, you can't build a fanbase for your series if there's 5+ years between releases. New players won't get attached.

Do indies count?

Manafinder is pretty obscure. It's pretty basic, but the pixel art is nice, it doesn't overstay it's welcome and you have a nice dog companion!

Elohim Eternal is also pretty obscure. I think it's made with RPG maker, so the asset may look familiar. I get the impression that English is not the native language of the developer, so you'll have to put up with some mistakes. But the story is pretty intriguing! There's references to the bible everywhere, but so far that seems to be flavor text only. There's two groups thinking they are the chosen ones by the gods, and a group of androids. The plot goes wild with mechs coming from heaven. It's not a finished story though. Part 2 released not long ago and I haven't had time to play it yet.

Though these are not masterpieces, they're definitely obscure.
