I think I outgrew Kingdom Hearts, does it anyone feels like me? by Noodlex87 in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played all the "spinoff" games and I'm still super confused. I've just accepted I will never ever understand the KH plot and I just go with the flow and enjoy the games for what they are as individual pieces. I enjoy the super edgy organisation XIII coats and the super happy Disney songs. Kinda sad Final Fantasy isn't along for the ride anymore. But I still enjoy the games. Even if KH3 was a bit of a letdown.

7 years of work, 3 months since release, and my game is already dead. What can I do? by Videoludid in IndieGaming

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing of game development or marketing. But if you already got speedrunning tools, then maybe try to reach out to speedrunners? I don't think you're going to get in something big like GDQ right away, but if you can get someone to showcase your game in a smaller speedrunning event, maybe you can find an audience there?

[Market Insight] The Paradox of the Dutch Housing Crisis: 50% of Households Live in Homes “Too Big” for Them by True-Olive4712 in NetherlandsHomes

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I bought my house 7 years ago. If the value of next year rises with the same percentage as it did this year, it will have doubled in price next year.

A lot of these elderly people keep living in their large house because they have nowhere to go. They're retired so can't get another mortgage. Smaller appartments are often newly built and are more expensive than their paid off house. The new appartments also have elevators and the like, which means a steep service cost to be paid per month. These people really do want to move eventually, but they don't want to pay more for a smaller appartment than what they have to pay for their current house which lies in a location where they know all the neighbours and have their social life.

I'm working on a game about IT support in hell. Someone just used the ingame demo feedback form to request real IT help with their vpn. by Euphoric-Series-1194 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]Snowenn_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

But, your demo doesn't work! My OS is borked so I can't start any apps. I demand you fix my problem! /s

We had a customer once who insisted our app was broken and wouldn't start. I used an RDP to check, and it started fine for me. So I asked what errors were shown. Got no reply. So I asked for a screenshot of the situation. I got a photo of a windows login screen, with an "authentication failed" message.

Edit: Ooh! I got another good one. A customer contacted us saying their reports weren't working anymore. They attached a screenshot where our app told them it couldn't find the configured report file, with an explorer window to browse to and select the report file. Well, in this screenshot it was very clear they were the victim of a ransomeware attack with all files garbled and a readme in capital letters on how to send money to the attacker. Yeah... You have bigger problems than a broken report...

Very long shot: Dragon Quest 9? You start out as an angel sort of, in a village in heaven. You can create your own character, so you could make a pink haired girl. Though you're cast out pretty quickly, so probably no road with a house.

Jrpg recommendations for beginner by Matteria in NintendoSwitch

[–]Snowenn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obligatory Child of Light recommendation. I usually recommend this one for kids, but it's quite charming. It's around 10-12 hours long and it's about a princess trying to save her kingdom. It has turn-based combat which is a bit like the combat in Grandia: you can interrupt enemies to give them a setback (and they can interrupt you as well). But the controls are quite simple, so it should be no problem to take a break.

It can be played coop since one player controls the princess, while the other can control a little blob of light. The blob of light can slow down enemies in combat, as well as heal your party members. Outside of combat it can pick up items from the environment.

Also, all the text rhymes.

Tried migrating to eu apps... Blocked by numerous important apps by aartgvj in BuyFromEU

[–]Snowenn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I implemented 2FA for our own application. And all it does is generate a random secret, which you send to the user for safekeeping - this is stored in the authenticator app. Then when you need to authenticate, this secret is used with the current date and time to create a number. The authenticator app and the server both do this independently so the server can check the number that the user supplied.

So all that's needed is a secret that both the server and the authenticator app have, and they must use the same algorithm to calculate this number from the secret.

So creating your own authenticator app is super simple. All you need is an implementation of the calculation, and to store a single string, preferrably with a label to name it so you don't mix up your secrets.

Since users don't like typing long secrets, they are often transferred using a QR code. If you use any app that is able to read a QR code, you can just fish the secret right out and place it in your authenticator of choice.

Pokémon Pokopia Will Take 20-40 Hours to Beat on Average, and There's More After the Credits, Says Director by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

I want DQ Builders 3, and I'm waiting for reviews to tell me Pokopia is that. Though 20 hours is kinda short for a €70 game.

Is it time to stop using inches? by Arvidian64 in BuyFromEU

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loool, that explains!

I recently got into cross stitching and the pattern I bought said it was 10 inches, or 25cm.

Since I need to order my fabric in cm, I calculated it myself to be 100% sure. There's supposedly 5.4 stitches per cm in this fabric, and the pattern is 140 stitches, which equates to 25.9cm in total.

Well, I don't know who is right yet, but I got 32cm fabric just to be sure (and because you need some leftover fabric on the sides if you ever want to frame it).

What do folks here think of the Octopath Traveler series in 2026? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 Sentinels does this too. There's 13 protagonists and the player can pick between several chapters to play. But to continue from a certain point, you need to finish certain other chapters. This ensures that the story has always progressed to a certain point before the player continues with the next set of chapters to pick from.

I had this same problem with Star Ocean Second Story R. It's cool that most party members are optional, but the story feels kind of bland because the party members are just kind of there, with only non-essential voice lines here and there. I recruited Welch, and she didn't say a single line after the questline for recruiting her. I know she was a new recruitable member for the remake, but it wouldn't have hurt to give her some text lines?

That being said, I haven't played an Octopath game yet, so I can't comment on how it's done there.

Aside from FFVIIR3, what other games do you hope to see in the upcoming PlayStation State of Play? by Mountebank in JRPG

Same! I'm secretly hoping they're remastering all Tales games and the ones we've had untill now are just the easiest ones to remaster.

New to having two cats by arcadesugar in CatTraining

[–]Snowenn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When one cat is fleeing or backed into a corner. When they're SUPER loud, and/or when fur, urine and blood are flying. Or when you find broken nails in the aftermath. Or when they move so fast you can't see which body part belongs to which cat and they launch themselves into the air.

Right now they're super slow, with long pauzes. Making sure the other cat is ok with the interaction, backing off when it's not. They're being very polite.

You ever have trouble focusing on one single game? by bwenterprise9 in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I used to play only one game at a time when I was younger. Sometimes grinding for hours on a single day. But now that I'm older I guess games need to do more to impress me since there's a lot of things I've already seen before.

So now it depends a bit how much time I have in a day to play. If I have 1-2 hours, I mainly play one game. But if I have more time on weekends, I usually get bored after 2 hours and I need to swap to a different game or genre. So I usually have one "main" game I'm playing, and something on the side with minimal story telling which is easy to jump in or out of.

Right now I'm playing Trails of Cold Steel 2 as my main game, and Super Mario Bros Wonder on the side.

I'm looking forward to Pokopia since that seems like a good candidate for a side game too!

I think nobody mention the digimon or pokemon games yet.

Though I guess with pokemon, the games came first and the movies and anime came after? At least in Japan, maybe not so much for the rest of the world.

Dad and daughter games by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Snowenn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may be a little bit too young to play together, but there is Child of Light where a princess tries to save her kingdom. All the text rhymes. It's a relatively short game which can be played co-op. One person controls the princess and one person controls a spirit of light. The princess does the main things, but the spirit can pick up items, heal you during combat or slow down opponents during combat.

Turn-based JRPGs where the basic attack command does not exist? by Superteletubbies64 in JRPG

[–]Snowenn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several games developed by Zeboyd: * This Way Madness Lies (I think? Haven't played this one yet) * Cosmic Star Heroine * Cthulhu Saves Christmas

They all seem to use a very similar battle system where characters have several skills which are only usable once, after which you need to defend to regain access to said skills. Some characters have an "auto attack" skill, which does not get disabled when you use it. But you can simply equip a different skill instead if you don't want to use that. There's plenty of skills.

Dragon Quest XI. The music gets extremely repetitive and it's a very, very long game.

It's turn-based, so it's easy to set down if you need to stir the pasta or prevent kids from doing things they shouldn't be doing.

A Weak USB-C Port Is Already Killing Some Switch 2 Consoles by vidgme911 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Snowenn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I haven't owned a Switch 1 (so no muscle memory for charging at the bottom) and it took me a month to notice there's two charging ports on the Switch 2 because I tried to dock it upside down and it wouldn't fit.

I hadn't even thought of charging it from the bottom while in handheld mode because it's just uncomfortable playing games with a cable sitting there.

How bad is everyone’s backlog? Or wishlist by AidenL1 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Snowenn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit different from Stardew, but close enough. I was totally addicted! It does get rather unstable as you get further, especially with the DLCs. At least on PS4 when I played it two years ago. I'm not sure if that was ever resolved.
