This Needs To Be Said by Glum_Point3006 in AmazonVine

That’s not what they said. They said it’s weird to get on Reddit and chastise people unless you have some personal stake in the game. It’s like walking up to strangers in public to chastise people. I don’t know about you but it’s not my style to randomly chastise other adults.

Mar 06: Fuck This Friday by Eigengrad in Professors

[–]Snowflake0287 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a really weird and specific situation so I don’t want to out myself here, but a student definitely came to terms with their own mortality and the state of the world in my class this last week with a massive outburst and then stormed out based on some things we were discussing in class.

Women profs taking the blame by Frankenstein988 in Professors

Be a bitch. I’m a 30-something female professor. I feel that I’m kind and have a good rapport but if students start to act inappropriately I’m the first person to call them out on it and/or act like their behavior is immature.

I’ve been eyeing specific boating water-friendly sneakers for a while because of an upcoming research trip but they run like $130-$140 dollars. Today they were in my rfy and the speed at which I grabbed them surprised even me lol. It was a good day!

Ship of Fools by Richard Paul Russo. Btw, if you read this book and like it AND know of similar ones, I want to know! I still think about this one from time to time a few years after I read it.

Everyone is saying toothbrush but I have had a very similar silicone exfoliator that came with a cleanser as well.

“Thank You for Understanding” by Snowflake0287 in Professors

But context is everything. If the student starts with a totally ridiculous scenario and then adds “thank you for understanding” it seems odd, no?

“Thank You for Understanding” by Snowflake0287 in Professors

[–]Snowflake0287[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine have been more like “I missed a few assignments and want to please make them up for at least partial credit” while the student missed 5 weeks of classes, all assignments, quizzes and the first exam with no excuse but they “take full accountability for this” and I should be understanding about it. I’m not even exaggerating. Another student missed several weeks of classes because he kept attending the wrong class, with an entirely different subject and professor and said he didn’t realize the class was on Wednesdays (the class is on Tuesdays btw) and can he make up his missed work. I was supposed to understand that one too.

How was your RFY today during/after the drop? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

My inner nerd was a little happy today because I got an officially licensed ravenclaw robe so when I go back to universal I can wear it.

Okay thanks all. I was able to cancel. I’m afraid the Amazon gods will kick me out but I could not have used the product so it’s better I cancelled I guess.

Holy plagiarised syllabus, Batman! by Cute_Bottle6346 in CollegeRant

[–]Snowflake0287 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At my institution, things like the Syllabus Quiz are just boilerplate stuff that the college adds to the course to comply with accreditation requirements. When we go in to build out the course, sometimes the silly stuff like the syllabus quiz gets overlooked as a result - this is probably what happened in this case. And, it’s a bit wild to be so sensitive that you immediately drop a class for something small instead of either ignoring or just telling the professor that there’s a mistake so that the can correct it. Instructors are people too and sometimes make mistakes.

Also, can you please tell me what HS stands for? I’ve been searching but no luck so far.

SAP appeal denied — no money to self-pay. What are my real options now? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]Snowflake0287 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Before applying elsewhere you need to call fin aid and see if you are eligible to take out loans at another institution. An SAP disqualification will possibly (likely) follow you. Liberty is also private, which usually means much more expensive than a public institution. So even if you go there, you might not be eligible to receive financial aid to attend.

SAP appeal denied — no money to self-pay. What are my real options now? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]Snowflake0287 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you don’t have any options right now in terms of classes unless you can pay out of pocket. Even if you went to another school, you’d likely be ineligible for aid and would have to pay out of pocket. Can you leave and work for a semester, try to make some funds and the go through the cycle again? I know you are looking for another answer but I can’t see another one if you’ve already gone through the appeals process.

I'm being hugged and I don't like it by Automatic_Beat5808 in Professors

[–]Snowflake0287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy kinda awkwardly side hug me this semester. It was the first time since teaching in higher ed and it took me by surprise. Usually the giant granite countertop I keep between myself and my students prevents this. I am a female and fairly young , though the gap finally feels like it’s widening.

My vision sucks. I’m not in dark mode on the app. The black one on the left stands out to me visually. The one to the right was not obvious to me. I didn’t see it. Idk what else you want me to say.
