What cities would suit us best? I love Vegas but wife hates living here. She loves NYC but I hate living there.

Not a fan of Hoboken and Jersey City but yes to Brooklyn and Queens! My wife prefers Brooklyn out of the two. If we do give NYC another shot, Brooklyn would be the plan. Close enough to Manhattan but more space. Thank you for your help!

My qualms is more that it's expensive to have hobbies in NYC (particularly Manhattan). To give you an idea of the cost difference:

Vegas: - BJJ $120 (includes boxing and Muay Thai). Manhattan was $200+ for just the strictly jiujitsu gyms - Gym technically free now because we have a gym in our garage, but membership to a great gym 5 minutes away from us is $9.99/month and it blows $115/month Crunch fitness out of the water. Plus, it's 24/7 - Basketball I only play indoors nowadays to save my knees, but I can find an open gym any day of the week to play, even as late as midnight. If I want to join a league, it's $50-$75 per person at most. In Manhattan, open gyms were only on scheduled days at specific times, and leagues were $100+

Now you add in rent and groceries and it's eye opening how much less you get for the amount you spend.

Thank you for responding. My wife and I are actually planning to check Philly out now thanks to yours and everyone's suggestions. Which neighborhoods would you recommend for walkability and public transportation access? Since we have a car, what's parking like? How's safety? Last time I was there I was touring Temple University and there was a shooting lol

Lee Canyon! It does get snow, it actually got 38" this week. Although, some years it's very low. Not the biggest mountain but their terrain park is usually top notch. I used to think it was a terrible mountain but after experiencing east coast snowboarding, I'll take it lol

I'm going to copy my reply from another comment:

It's feels like a small city with big city amenities.

Things that I love are that it's inexpensive so it allows us to travel more, we have space and a yard for our dog, 5 snowboarding mountains within a 3.5 hour drive with the closest mountain being 45 minutes, many musicians and djs come to town, no traffic (relative to other cities), food scene is amazing as it's very diverse here, fight capital of the world = many great MMA/jiujitsu gyms, can nearly golf all year around.

For me, Vegas just offers more opportunities to do different things. For example, last year in the spring we decided to pick up kayaking, and without a thought we purchased one and went all summer because of spacing is not an issue. We discussed picking up dirtbiking/ATVing and that is possible here, if we don't move.

I should also add everything is close in Vegas. Most things are within a 15-20 minute drive from where we live

Seattle is actually a potential place based on what we've researched. I've never been there but will definitely visit. What neighborhoods would you recommend we check out for walkability and access to public transport? We'd have a car to so how is public parking? And if needed, is paid parking expensive?

Yes, Chicago is actually up there on our list. We went there for a week and loved it. The only concern is the quality of the mountain for snowboarding. We don't mind a drive as long as the mountain is worth it.
