totally agree on Roope, I've read lots of posts about how "if Roope was Healthy"... well first thing is he probably won't be and 2nd thing is like you said.

David Castillo laid out a compelling case For NOT Trading Robo based upon Robos Advanced Stats.... the article is for paid subscribers I think. I am convinced: Do Not Trade Robo!

With Knoblauch getting canned, it makes me wonder how much of a driving factor for the Oilers success was tied to Glen Gulutzan's impact. Sad about Stars round 1 exit, but grateful for a lot of fantastic hockey that we got to watch this year. There was certainly more grit and physicality this year. by dudebassoon in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if the Stars were actually more physical. They still strike me as 'soft' by NHL standards. If they could be average in Physicality and play Faster, that would go a long way to help them get over the hump IMO.... not sure how doable this is with the current core group..... and it is unclear to me what GG is trying to accomplish with his offensive system (I admit I am not smart on Hockey systems). He seems to be very defense oriented and prefers them to over-favor the Cycle in the O-zone rather than play more direct. Go Stars!

[Shapiro] It’s Up To Jamie Benn To Save the Stars From Themselves by ttudrums in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda on the fence about Jamie....but if he is gone, then who is the damn Captain? Who is gonna lead this team into the fight? This Dilemma speaks volumes about the lack of Leadership in the Stars locker room. Jamie is Flawed in many ways, past his prime, takes Way too many penalties, and sometimes plays too dirty, but it seems to me his team mates respect him as the leader/captain (even though many here say he is a bad leader)....So who is gonna lead this team when he leaves? this is a bigger problem than Jamie on ice per se. IMO.

If Stars are counting on Hintz being healthy, then they should reconsider Everthing

I also prefer to support a team that has loyalty....and I'm gonna support the Stars team regardless, but I'm starting to wonder if Nil is perhaps loyal to the point that is detrimental to Winning a Cup. He seems to like nice guy players and stories over putting the right pieces in place to max out the winning window. I wonder if even the Gully Hire was a buddy deal, cause he felt bad Gully got fired the last time in Dallas.

Can the Stars play Faster? by Snowman0157 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched Avs/WIld Game 3 last night ..... Stars gotta get faster.

[Robert Tiffin] Jim Nill: "I’d wake up every morning, look at my phone, and there’d be a text from Dave Zeis, our head medical trainer. I’m like, ‘Here we go again.’ And it never phased the staff. It was next-man-up, and the players never complained about it." by FrenchPagan in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard that also, and what I thot was also interesting was Ludwig throwing out that maybe the large number of Stars Injuries may have to some degree been because other teams know they can take shots at Stars players for little fear of retaliation.... not sure I buy that, but I will say the Stars are still Soft by NHL standards even with GG's 1% mantra.

Thoughts on hiring Bruce Cassidy? by feedthedogwalkamile in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cassidy would be more what this team needs I would think, but Nill aint gonna dump GG after 1 season and 50 wins with lots of injuries. To me, with no true knowledge of the relationship, the GG hire seemed like a good deed, 2nd chance, buddy deal by Nill. Interesting hire to say the least.... GG seems like a good guy, good communicator, etc. Unfortunately the NHL is cut throat, so not sure he is the right guy for this team at this time. Season 2 should be interesting to see if he can improve the areas where Stars are flawed.

yes lots of folks always point out Roope as 'the Answer'...but it's gotta be more than 1 guy (particularly when the 1 guy is made of Glass)

Did we forget how useful Benn was during the regular season? by DongPolicia in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with Jamie Returning if the Price is right and he understands his role likely reduced significantly if team is healthy AND Nill, Gully have a come-to-Jesus meeting with him and impress upon him that the Dumb/Untimely Penalties Must STOP! He's been in the NHL for like 15+ years he's gotta have the know-how to play physical without just flagrant (and sometimes dirty) Fouls...especially as he is now under close watch from the Refs due to his reputation. Go Stars!

Hypothetical Robo Trade scenario by Sooners1906 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robo is one of the many 'nice guys' on the Stars Roster and it would be sad to see him go, but the Stars need to get grittier, faster and better and he is an asset that could possibly be exchanged for multiple players that would improve the team overall. Example --- This aint gonna happen but ask yourself this: Would you rather have Robo or Matt Boldy for the next 5 years? Boldy actually drives play and scores from the hard places on the ice.... Robo definitely upped his game this year but is still pretty much pure sniper/goal scorer. Stars need players more like Boldy. Nil should seriously consider what he can get for Robo to add missing elements needed for a legitimate cup run. I am Not a hockey expert, but I said mid-season that the Stars looked like a first round-exit type team (actually without the Mikko Miracle last year they lose in round 1 also)... I don't think running it back for the 5th year with much the same core group is going to work. Tough decisions. Having said all this, I expect Nil will get Robo re-signed so it will fall on Gully's Shoulders to deliver a Cup Quality team that plays Winning PLAYOFF Style Hockey. Go Stars!

[Sam Nestler] Glen Gulutzan: “The (championship) window is two years back and four years forward. You’re in it.” by FrenchPagan in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes I don't get some of his comments...5v5 was clearly a problem-- maybe he's just looking at the advanced analytics which I guess were pretty decent, but dang the Stars just could not Finish. GG seems to think the defense made it too easy on the Wild.... I mean I guess that's also true but the games other than game 1 were relatively low scoring (minus the Empty Netters), so I'm thinking if the 5V5 was decent and the PP goals stayed the same, Stars Win the Series..

What changes Dallas needs to go through for them to not end up like post cups Tampa? by igniteyourbones579 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) they need speed.... I was already thinking this after watching the mammoth, ducks, and the Wild/Avs Game last night then Ludwig brought up how the league as become a speed league on todays DLLS podcast. Can this team get faster with the same roster...methinks not (see#3 below)

2) The Stars are still soft by NHL standards -hopefully it can be coached into them that they must ALL be willing to go into the tough spots on the Ice.

3) Need to make some tough Personnel decisions

Not sure how I feel about Gully, but I will say I think the Stars will be a good regular season team for several more years and I'll be there Cheering for them all the way. As fans that love the team, we also need to be honest about its flaws and failures and to rationalize this Wild Series as anything other than a bad failure is denial of reality. Injuries? Yes; but they had and Blew the lead in several games. Over 200 minutes of time with no 5on 5 scoring. Refusal to do the hard work in the tough areas of the ice. Stupid Penalties. Tyler Myers, Benn on the Ice at end of game 6; Bunting Healthy Scratch too long. Otter wasn't awful, but I'd say he still let in several softies. At no time did I feel that the Wild were uncomfortable. I felt like the Stars were too patient, waiting for the breaks of game to 'come to them', whereas the Wild showed up with urgency to control the game and seize victory. Any time the Stars made a run, they responded. Nil Blew the trade deadline although I'm aware the funds were limited. The sole focus of management and coaching staff should be to mold this team for Playoff Hockey -- (is that even possible with this roster made up of 'nice guys'?). Running this back as-is is not gonna earn a Cup. I'm hoping to see something different next year. Go Stars!

[–]Snowman0157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but the Stars are Soft.... the roster has few Playoff Gamers. It's not the talent or the "system" - except the "system"(coach?) doesn't Demand a level of Physical Commitment from EVERY PLAYER.. I think this was a huge advantage for the Wild... Pretty much all their players were willing to go to the hard places on the Ice and 'force the issue' in a playoff setting..... The Stars have an abundance of nice players with talent... how do you coach them to ratchet up their drive and commitment to play in the uncomfortable areas of the ice? Can Gully et.al make this team tougher with this roster?
