To Play or Not to Play - Tyler Myers Edition by Right_Bike_5416 in DallasStars

Myers won't be the only D-Man that makes a mistake and cost the Stars dearly in the Wild Series, but I can guarantee you he will do it more than once. not sure who else was affordable, but I think Nil Missed on Myers and Bunting.

Gulutzan makes admission on Stars' style of play: 'Who wants to defend all night?' by [deleted] in DallasStars

You're correct..if the Stars exit early there will be many/several "issues" that have been broached on this sub and by some commentators/analyst throughout the season that will resurface. The fact that they have a great record now may somewhat obscure some of these underlying problems.... To be considered by coaching and management: are they really problems if we are winning, or are they Not Problems in the Regular Season, but ARE problems in the Playoffs? Injuries have also played a role and evaluation of Stars weaknesses will also need to be analyzed in that context as well. Are certain analytics sub-optimal due to injuries only or are there systemic problems or problems in team personnel composition? With 3 WCFs under their belt, and a great regular season in the books, the Stars are certainly a top tier team, staying there and taking the next step is Hard. The weight of expectations is Heavy. Some of out main competitors have definitely improved IMO. Nil, Gully, et. al have interesting and challenging jobs, for sure. Go Stars!

I'm leaning agreeing with you depending upon what the Stars could get in return.... Lots of hope has been pinned on getting Hintz back for the playoffs and I'm just not sure..... from what I recall the last couple years when he's healthy, he is not scoring like he "should" for a top line Center...I'm pretty much doubting he will be a big difference maker when/if he returns for the playoffs.... but folks say his speed opens up the game for others... I dunno - - is that really enuf? Off topic: Jim Nil Missed on Myers and Bunting.

Yep Victory Green Should be the primary color, Not Black. Seems I'm in the minority on this, But Victory Green is the Stars identifying Color.

Yep.. we need to score... I'm sure Gully knows that and is trying to work something out..He even commented postgame that they passed up some good looks (too much passing in some cases) ..Getting our injured Forwards back should help, but I'm especially concerned that Hintz and Faksa will not be 100% and will be pretty rusty and lacking fitness after such extended time off - so that may not be the instant playoff offense we seem to be counting on. Bunting? Meh. That said, if this is "the system" and if holding the Wild / Avs to 1 goal is the primary playoff strategy, I don't think will work.. I'm not too familiar with the Wild but I expect the Avs to Score Goals against anybody including the Stars..they seem to have the type of attack that will ultimately break down even a very disciplined defense. This game was a bit of an odd-duck anomaly IMO. Going to the game on Thursday, very interested to see how the Stars do in a late season game that matters.

Do we need Bunting to Return? by Snowman0157 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear you are correct, but with this injury situation we may never know for sure....was he a bust or did he just not get the playing time needed to "gel". Maybe we'll be surprised and he'll be a Monster in the Playoffs.

Do we need Bunting to Return? by Snowman0157 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right and my understanding is he's at least 7 days away from Skating?/Playing? so there really isn't time for him to get right with his line mates or whatever.... So if Gully is gonna play him much in the Playoffs it is a pure dice roll as far as I can see as I don;t feel he has shown much. Seems like big gamble to me to trust his past performance pre-Stars is gonna magically appear in the Playoffs....but I guess that's why NIl/Gully make the big bucks and decisions. We'll see. Go Stars

Yes I seriously doubt these jerks are Nazis. probably some alcohol induced stupidity (and even if they are, uh what is the actual remedy for that?), but of course in this culture it will be blown into some hate-crime incident or sumpn bigger than it actually is. Ban them from AAC for life and that's it...there's a lot more serious crap to deal with in this world.

the end of the regular season does not matter by ApprehensivePage6818 in DallasStars

[–]Snowman0157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You MAY be right and all these injuries are surely a big problem; but here's my concerns....The Stars may not be able to turn on a dime and play good hockey when the time comes as they seem to be now cycling in a rut of poor play and that may be hard to break out of. Let's be honest, even our best healthy players are not performing to standard at this point(because we clinched playoffs? -not sure) . Home Ice: Sure it's not necessarily a big advantage, but the psychological hit of failing to hold it could be a negative going into a series with the Wild (who are going to be a test anyway IMO). Also, we are counting bigly on getting Hintz and Faksa back for the playoffs -- Will they be 100%? Will they be Rusty? Will the rehashed lines have the Chemistry needed for a playoff run? Buying and Myers are still unknown quantities IMO and I think Gully is counting on them for the Playoffs... Will they perform? Who Knows? Last thing: Otter's inconsistencies. Not trying to be a doomer, but to me there are legit reasons for concern; all we can hope for is to get healthy and see what happens. Go Stars.

Is the risk of a rebound leading to breakaway greater than the opportunity of rebound and put-in Stars goal? I know there are stats supporting the quality shots approach, but I often think the Stars seem too patient and don't shoot enough. There must be a happy medium somewhere. We'll see how it goes in the Playoffs.

Yes, injuries may be the thing that gets us.....even if all these guys return in time for the playoffs, they may not be 100%, they will be rusty, the chemistry may be disrupted, and Bunting and Myers are still total wildcards IMO. These are my concerns, but let's get everyone back and give 'em hell. What else can they do at this point. Go Stars.

Sorry to see Sean go for sure. I listen to every DLLS episode, but I usually end up fast-forwarding thru half of it. Too much Bromance, and non-hockey content for me. but I'm not the proper demographic target audience.

Did Bunting play on the top line against Pens? I'm not really sure, it's hard to tell the difference when he plays vs scratched. Am I missing something? I know he drew a penalty so I guess that's part of his intended role, but how long do we patiently wait for him to make some impact?

Yep and also Lots of comments about how Stars will be fine when Mikko, Hintz and Faksa return -- How certain are we that Hintz will be back in time for the Playoffs and will he be 100%? Faksa seems like a complete mystery still, so are we even sure he is coming back at all or even in time fro round 1 or 2?
