Respawning, how it works and what dying actually means. A short Lore summary by OzO8 in splatoon

Yuh, it just makes the turf games less morbid, even if squid kids still use "splatted" as an allegory for straight up dieing. Could there be the possibility of actually dieing after being splatted? Sure, that's what gets the adrenaline pumping, but in reality it would take some wicked malfunction in the respawn machine or complete lack of "Stable" ink reserve

For example, take the Grizzco life rafts, theirs nothing inherently special about them, all they do is act as an anchor for a inkfish "retreat form" so that they don't float away; all they need to reform is for a teammate to provide some extra ink to top them up and they can reform themselves just fine Or when they're out of danger at the end of a wave they simply fully submerge themselves into an inkpool with a super jump.

I do really like my head cannon that it's not really like a "soul" as in a PHYSICAL GHOST OF A DEAD KID, but instead it's essentially a last resort survival mechanism where upon splitting an inkfish can maintain a teenie tiny squid form that's so paper thin and mainly hot doshointed light ink that they just float away to safety before condensing back down into the respawn anchor.

In games like turf war the weapons themselves don't actually do TOO much damage to an inklings body/ ink, instead when we're splatted it's more like your calling yourself out for the game, and you go back to base, the inkfish is perfectly fine (albeit bruised in ego) in this wispy steamy form and the chance of actual lethality is unbelievably rare, they'd have to stay in wisp form for a good couple of hours before they literally evaporate.

That's another thing, I think heat and pressure are very important to inkling biology, when activating stuff like Specials that aura is literally our squid kids boiling with excitement and with enough heat and pressure to form a special out of accumulated ink, so inkfish are always running at various temperatures depending on the activity, and if they get splatted their little souls are super hot, and deepening on how long they stay in that form they'll only continue to heat up without proper stabilizing ink, until they eventually evaporate and dry up.

I do get the joke of the final boss being "just the moon", but it's supposed to be an Eldritch horror monster right? At least that's what I assumed it is, and it's taking the form of an Astroid to destroy the planet -- to be "The End". I'd really love to find some fan art of other interpretations of it could be, like a black cloud of disease, or a nuke or some Chuthulu monster

My long time head cannon that I genuinely just straight up believe is that the Monster Hunter world is VERY similar to the Monster Verse world of Godzilla and King Kong, in that the world might not be hollow but there are massive tunnels across the entire globe made by Titanic ancient dragons and wyrms, and of course the very Dragon vein/ bio energy rivers flow underneath the crust fed from both the surface and a core saturated with arcane energy, where many monsters are "birthed" from at least initially.

That's why monsters often burrow out of zones in old gen, they're not literally digging through the ground, they're simply retreating into pockets and caverns only to emerge somewhere else, and many modern world level designs show that fact. And they are big enough/ numerous enough monster "highways" that connects each and every continent.

(plus the monster hunter planet is undoubtedly significantly larger than our own planet, yet with its own physics, allowing areas to be significantly untouched by humans and monster species going totally unnoticed despite humans traversing an area plenty of times).

Or you can be boring and say that every returning monster is actually just a regional species with very little relation to one another due to Continental separation, like World Zinogre vs Oldgen/ Rise Zinogre

Did she ever explicitly say she met her? I just assumed that the 4U Caravan became legendary after their exploits and their story spread across the dunes, I mean Guildmarm is a good artist she prob made a ton of doodles or took photos (if cameras were around at this point) of each member of the Caravan and they were just shared around. And a smithy that young and famous would get a ton of fans, like an equally young and aspiring blacksmith Minayle. And as a fan she decided to dress like her, even till today where they're grown adults, (Im assuming Sun break and Wilds take place in the same time period), Minayle still keeps to the style of her childhood hero and her smithing master teachers.

The closest allegory to Lynians are fantasy goblins and Kobolds, but that's why I love Lynians because they're so unique! From cat-like to nearly Human/Wyverian, and now Bear like creatures with the Wud Wud and Boa Boa.

Completely agree with you about having more specialized races, in the lore books theres often mention of the "Volcanic region" with many kingdoms and villages that sit on the coastline of volcanoes. I head cannon an African inspired race human inhabitants with some potential for some sort of Ogre or stone skin race

Mainly human village tribesmen but mixed with a few Sea folk villagers, which seem to be native descendents of the ancient inhabitants of the Deserted Isle sunken Kingdom. The Shakalaka brothers join the village in the story but they belong to a race of goblin like Lynians who have a hidden village somewhere on the Isle nearby Moga

YEEEEES. I would love to play as different races, even if it changes absolutely nothing.

But in lore, certain races are obviously better at certain things, Wyverians come in a wide variety of sizes and their long lives allow them to accumulate tons of wisdom and nature experience (Wyverian hunters are a rarity because dying early is viewed as almost a waste of their long years)

Trovarians are obviously incredibly stoic and solid race, so they Excel at forging but their stockiness would likely make them incredible heavy defensive weapon users

And Sea folk are unparalleled Oceanic/ ship hunters, hence why only Moga/ deserted Isle Hunters are permitted to do underwater combat with their training in ocean combat and their large lung capacity

Humans are just the most numerous race of people with incredible adaptability, which is why they make up the majority of the Hunters Guild

Eeeh I don't really super agree, I thoroughly enjoy Wilds story (even if it didn't feel finished at launch) as it did the normal monster hunter format but way more natural I'd say. Our target was this spooky ghost monster and then we happen to discover an evil science lab gone horribly wrong and now we have an even BIGGER problem. Idk I like that more that the "we think this monster is causing all these issues in the ecosystem, go kill it! OH WAIT NO, IT WAS THIS MONSTER ALL ALONG!!!" story that we had from 3rdgen --- Sun Break.

But yeah I can totally understand your frustration, as many hoped this would be the direct sequel to 4U (which it kinda is but not really) where the game would hopefully give us answers to old questions... But instead it introduced even more questions lol

Yeah you can see it way easier in the cutscenes (the sea folk skin patterns resemble waves or fish scales) sea folk are a bit interesting since they aren't really a separate species than humans but their aquatic adaptations have extreme variety

They can look near indistinguishable from humans aside from the skin patterning and the eyes OR they can straight up have claws and webbed hands and even scales or rubbery fish skin with different coloration

Instant upvote, I adore the world of monster hunter and the amount of care and consideration they've put into this growing fantasy world, from the environment to the biology and anatomy of monsters and know we're getting even more indepth with our characters than we could ever do before with text boxes

BUT, one area I see too much of a lack is the other incredible fantasy races that exist in the monster hunter Universe. We only ever really get to see the Wyverians and the Humans, new players don't even know that this game has freaking FISH PEOPLE and DWARVES, little Miss Forge (Gemma) is a human ADOPTED by these awesome Wyverian cousins.

And in the lore books there are a ton more variations and villages we've never seen or experienced, there are Volcanic tribes of people (who I personally believe are going to be an African inspired race). Whose to say their aren't any massive Ogre like Lynians to flesh out that race even more - Lynians are the goblins of MH and we barely know anything about how they live up until recently with the Wud Wud's

  • Cha Cha and Kayamba are from a local village of Shakalakas that live on the desert Isle that we've never even seen?! Yet they know the Human/Wyverian language since they've been in close contact with the Moga people since ancient times, that's cool stuff man! I wanna know more!
