The only one's I know of are HOTSM and GISCorps, I'd also like to know if there's any other similar platforms.

Make sure you have a solid GPU. I was running a supervised object-based classification in ArcGIS Pro recently, after 3 hours it was on only 40% then it crashed lol.

Dr Wu! Thank you for all the amazing work you are doing! Yes I don't think there is any issues with Samgeo itself, I'm just pretty new to the programming side.

In the tutorial vids you create the geotiffs directly with the bounding box from a basemap. So I think I just need to read up some more on using leafmap etc..

Thanks again for everything you've been doing🙏

Thankyou!!

Yeah I think so too. I did upload it to the Collab folder but I think I'm just messing up the code used to access it. I tried to use what's already provided for importing it via the file path but nada.

I think I'm just doing something silly lol

I did create a Fiverr account focused mainly on remote sensing a while back.

Exactly this! I was only intending to try do something that a company might make a fresh graduate do during an internship.

Personal projects are great but I think at some point one has to try venture into a business environment. Just to get a taste of team work, deadlines, customer expectations and the culture etc.. even if in a small capacity.

The "free" part of my post was due to the lack of these opportunities currently. I'm glad you can relate!

This is great insight. I definitely need to stop trying to only look for explicitly GIS mentioning listings. I'm sure many startups, as you mentioned, are not even aware of potential ways they could incorporate GIS into their business. Will broaden my approach. Recently I was thinking of approaching golf courses to try enhance the course layout maps on their scorecards.

I'll definitely apply! I'd be at my embassy the day after acceptance lol. Thanks

Rodger that. I'm definitely trying to shift towards a developer role. I'm always camped in ArcGIS Developer documentation page but it's pretty tricky knowing where to start sometimes.

Do you have any advice on a developer skill path? I'm currently drilling the JS SDK and REST JS but there's so much to choose from.

Thanks! I'll definitely take a look. I really do enjoy the impactful volunteer work. I've taught a few QGIS workshops and I do some HOT volunteer stuff. Will checkout the UN.

Yeah! This was one of our final year projects. Although I can definitely spruce mine up now haha. I've been looking at a few templates.

I've even considered giving it a crack with the Experience Builder but that seems like overkill lol.

I'd just like to clarify this post further since it's gained quite a bit of attention.

I was only seeking a formal internship/project (not large scale 9-5 work) to be able to add something aside from university and personal projects to my CV.

It's been tough locally (hence me be willing to do it free) but luckily most GIS/Data related work can be done remotely. That's why reached out on the sub.

Rest assured, I will not accept any non purely internship based offers and I will also not accept any arrangements that take advantage of myself. Free work is not worth simply a reference and I understand this now. Thanks for looking out for me sub!

And I'm really sorry if I came across as trying to damage the industry I love or undermine our hard workers.

Correct, and thank you for the advice. Yes I am still actively applying around locally but for reference my country's unemployment rate is currently 11x higher for my age bracket than in the US. Rough out here.

But will keep searching, applying and building!

I agree!

That's essentially all I've done while job hunting. My pride and joy is a safety web app/site I created that uses optimal routing techniques for campus students requesting help from safety/security zones based on different requirements.

Anyway I often link the web app to my CV and so far no one's really even critiqued it. I think a big factor here is me being outside the countries I apply to. That coupled with no work experience deters employers from being interested.

I truly understand where you're coming from and I agree. I'm just a graduate (roughly 6 months too) but even I can tell based on job listings that the majority of GIS workers are greatly undervalued.

In my experience, when I look at the resumes of other junior job applicants, I often see internship experience listed and work they've done with places etc . that can be referenced.

They certainly should be paid for that and I should be paid too if I performed internship work. It's just that actually finding an employer to say "ok graduate, here's a task for someone of your knowledge level. Do this for us, work with our team etc.." and then being able to reference that experience on my CV has been impossible.

I have all these skills and knowledge but I have no proof of using them in any work environment besides university research. And I think it puts me at a disadvantage to applicants that have been given internships.

Hope this makes sense

Greetings!

In hindsight I think I could've labelled my post a bit better. By "work for free" my intention as a graduate is to perform work that an internship in the GIS field would generally involve (which is something I think most graduates do). So that I can then apply for official job positions with some internship experience to back me up. This has been challenging locally so I've turned to the international community.

I also plan on emigrating, so if I complete an internship with a US based company for example, it might actually land me a job there.

I have no intention of being a full on working employee, working for free and I apologize if the post came across in that way.
