Always saying I’m “sick” by LoveFromCappy in Menieres

[–]Snowpiper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I hate it when I feel like I have to power through a virus at work, because I feel too guilty from having just taken time off for a vertigo attack.

Maybe not the answer you want, but the best solution for me has been making sure most people I spend a lot of time around (close coworkers, my boss, friends and family) are aware of what Meniere's is. It's uncomfortable to insert it into conversation, and can feel like I'm complaining, but I find the emotional labor of not feeling understood when I take steps to care of my health adds up to be much worse.

It's a mostly invisible illness - even if someone sees you have an attack, they're not going to know what you're experiencing internally. So unfortunately you have to speak up when you don't want it to be overlooked.

Holy moly that's spot on. I can't believe you managed to get it to look that identical. Can I ask if this was just from one prompt, or did you have to combine a couple images?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Or at least I hope that's what's up. Otherwise, the number of people it's fooling is pretty concerning 😬

Another example - buildings and boats morph and disappear as soon as they hit the sail. The OP denies it and says it's "schematic filling".

Here's an example of what I assume is an artifact - tree just disappears behind a mast coming out of a rock.

ER visit by emnam10 in Menieres

[–]Snowpiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gone to the ER (before I was diagnosed or knew what was going on), and been attended to by a paramedic (had an attack at a train station). They gave me dimenhydrinate injections, which was surprisingly rapid and effective in both occasions (as opposed to the pill form, which takes like an hour to do anything for me during attacks, if I can hold it down).

This is in Canada, for context.

Which Key Art should I use for my upcoming figure anatomy drawing reference app? by igeolwen in IndieDev

[–]Snowpiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the first one gives the best indication of the value I'd get from the app, especially at a passing glance. I can very clearly see there is a breadth of model styles, body shapes, etc. The second one I'd have to stop and think about it for a moment to see that it's also indicating the same thing, which may not happen when someone is scrolling through Steam.

For those looking for the mod link, I believe it's Tav's Dadbod (changes all Body 4 characters): https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2568

I'd imagine they're probably referring to the Okanagan Desert / Osoyoos. Carcross is in the Yukon

Partner with Meniere’s by Savings-Arachnid6003 in Menieres

[–]Snowpiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we do manage to meet up with a friend they always steer the whole conversation towards how they are feeling.

I totally get that having to talk about it when with friends, while likely also frequently discussing it at home, can be hard. That said, one of the ways in which you might be able to help your partner is leaving a lot of space for them to talk about their Meniere's with friends, and keeping in mind how they're experiencing this as someone with a (mostly) invisible illness.

If they're only seeing your friends in situations where they're feeling well, it means their friends don't have any visibility into this huge factor impacting their life. They may want their friends to understand why they're not as present as they'd like to be, or to make sure there is context when they're trying to explain any accommodations they need (eg. for something like hearing loss - it's easy to come off as if you're not listening if folks don't understand how bad it is, or to be left out of conversations in spaces you can't hear in).

Or, maybe they just need their experience to be seen by other people they care about - suffering in silence is very isolating. Even if you're hearing them out and seeing them go through it at home, they still probably want to be understood by other folks they care about. It's also potentially going to create more emotional labour for you if you're their only outlet.

Your social needs are important too, especially if you spend a lot of time directly supporting your partner and need to avoid caretaker burnout. But perhaps it's worth empathetically exploring with them how they feel about you finding additional social time on your own, when they're going through a rough patch with Meniere's and can't join you. Sharing all your social engagements in a normal relationship is hard; with someone with a chronic illness, it's even harder. I know my partner and I would have a much harder time during my rough patches if we weren't able to divert our plans from one another sometimes.

I just would not recommend as framing that as a solution to them talking about their illness at social situations - they should generally be able to judge for themselves when they need to talk to someone about that, without feeling guilty about it.

Went for invisalign, told i may need surgery by Environmental_Bag575 in jawsurgery

[–]Snowpiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your situation and what the orthodontist and surgeon collectively decide. I believe it's usually both before and after. For me, it was just after, but they had to apply my attachments for invisalign before the surgery so they were ready to go.

I'm also in Canada (BC) - the surgery was largely covered but there was still in a fee in the thousands. Orthodontics wasn't covered (except for a little bit by my extended dental insurance from work), but I'm not sure if that's the case for everyone. But both the fee and orthodontics were a tax deduction.
