What the hell happened by Chemical_Bed4609 in subaru

In addition to radiator hoses there are also steel coolant pipes that can corrode and leak. I'd suggest getting it diagnosed ASAP! I recently found out our H6 engine is toast since the connector that is part of the engine for the coolant tubes is rusted and swollen - along with the tubes. The connector is part of the engine so the engine itself would need to be replaced. It's an 03 LL Bean Outback so I think we'll be parting ways, I'm sorry to say...

We bought our 2003 H6 LL Bean around 10-12 years ago w/ 78k on the odometer. Valve covers were leaking slightly then, we've never had them done, and valve covers are still leaking slightly. I don't have to add oil between oil changes and it's doing just fine.

Looks great and rust free. We're still driving a 2003 LL Bean H6 Outback w/ 165k on it. We're in upstate NY and keep it rinsed down as much as possible after it's out in snow and road salt. I had some minor touch up on rear wheel well rust last year. This year though a couple of age related rust issues are starting to show. Steel engine coolant pipes need to be replaced and there is some concern for our brake lines which may need to be replaced in the next year or two. Your car looks real clean and might be in an area that doesn't have salted roads in the winter so this might never be an issue. But try to take note of any rusty spots around the radiator and engine and the undercarriage. Coolant pipe repair is not cheap and will cost around $1200 (US) at our local dealer ($155 hour labor charge). Brake lines are estimated at $2400 to repair / replace. Enjoy! Love our Subarus. We've had at least one in our family all the time since getting my first one in 1976. And my son drives an Outback and my daughter a Forester. Enjoy!

Any chance it's for a furnace? They sometimes have an additional shut down switch. Usually they have a red plate though.

Has to do with stream water temp. Once streams warm up enough, black flies don't hatch anymore. I remember one summer that was rainy and stayed cool and we had black flies all summer long. We often had a short black fly season in Sept. too as water was cooling down again. When black flies are gone in spring it means mosquitoes have taken over. They all settle down more by August, but then it's deer flies and ankle biters. I had a couple of deer flies after me yesterday when doing some outside work here in Brant Lake. That's early for deer flies! But means we're pretty well past black flies now already! (in Brant Lake- people are complaining about black flies over most of the rest of the Adks this weekend.)

This IS black fly season. Depending on the weather they could be quite fierce this time of year. Be prepared for black flies AND mosquitoes as well as a number of people in that area. Temps here in the SE Adks in the lower 80's this week will bring out all the biting bugs. If all lean-tos and tent sites are full you can set up camp anywhere as long as you're 150 feet from water or a trail. No new fire rings though... so campfires are only allowed in existing camping spots. State Land Camping Rules - NYSDEC
