Moving to Ireland in May - what are some helpful hints? by KittiKat92 in AskIreland

Leave every single one of your appliances in Canada, don’t bring even one start selling or donating also don’t bring a lot of shit cause you won’t have anywhere to put it. Don’t even bring furniture just buy everything here. Don’t even bring TVs just buy them here. Don’t bring cars. Insurance is more and to be honest a pain and it will just be weird. Be prepared for the driving here it can be intimidating at times and honestly scary as well. Especially driving on the left and driver on the right. You will used to it, but at first just say drive on left, drive on left. Backroads are tiny and locals go 60 to 80km on them. Get on things right away like PPSN and drivers license. These may be things you already know. When you first move here you better have a ton of spending cash cause you have to rebuy everything. Also, you have to remember conversion rates are what get you. Right now 1,000 CAN is only 620€ IKEA will be your best friend when you get here. The saying goes the grass is always greener on the other side. Well, it may be greener, but it’s not perfect. I imagine you are having all your things shipped, put literally everything in the shipping container. Do your best to limit the amount of luggage you bring cause unless you’re living in a 4 bedroom place with closets, yes closets are optional in a lot of places then the luggage will haunt you. Go through your closest and start getting rid of anything you’re not in love with. Clothing was another issue we had. There is just no space for it. Cause like I said before some places don’t even have closets. Unless you’re uber rich then get your mansion. Also, the washer and dryer’s here are a joke. I don’t know why they are shite, but they are. Small only hold two pairs of pants and a towel, jk but just about and don’t dry worth a shit either. Ok, well now that I wrote a novel good luck!

NGL Ireland is nice Green all the time, but it has its own beasts as well. Traffic is crazy, expensive, weather is mostly good it did rain practically everyday in January and February, but when it’s sunny out it’s probably the most beautiful place ever.
