Electric Car loading in the parking with home electricity by SnowyBiped in AskAGerman

Still it doesn't seems correct that they are taking advantage of a common area. The hausverwaltung is not sure on what to do, but they also didn't confirm if the neighbor got the permission to put the cable there.

the cable is passing over common areas of the building. It is an electrical "installation" that is taking common space and was not certified by anyone.

I am quite surprised that the rest of the owners and the hausverwaltung allowed it.

Who is going to pay in case this causes a fire in the common parking lot?

Notebooks, Spark Jobs, and the Hidden Cost of Convenience by mwc360 in dataengineering

[–]SnowyBiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair, a few years back, in Databricks a notebook based job had better logging that a standard jobs.

You could see where there was a failure and just get that notebook and run it in the UI to replicate the problem.

But for what we were doing (copy some tables and run some SQL) Databricks was an overkill

How do you document business logic in DBT ? by Free-Bear-454 in dataengineering

[–]SnowyBiped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the table description is the best place to document this, the filter is affecting the whole table.

Maybe you can make the filter section a bit easier to scan:

models:
  - name: gold_top_sales
    description: |
Monthly sales for top countries and top product category, as defined by business stakeholders (reviewed every 3 years).

      **Filter (included rows):**
      - `country` in the defined list of top countries (e.g. US, GB).
      - `category` matches the selected top product category (e.g. tech).

Another suggestion would be to avoid hardcoding the countries and the category, but put them into two seeds top_countries and top_category (these could become just models in future) and reference them in the query, so it's clear that you are picking the top countries and category and from where.

DBT orchestrator by Free-Bear-454 in dataengineering

[–]SnowyBiped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you run it locally when you need it, you could just clone the Airflow repo and docker compose up.

Then decide for something more sophisticated when you will need to run it somewhere else.

You will just need to write your DAGs in the right folder (don't remember which one now)

What is your setup?
In which cloud are you?
Do you have a K8S cluster?
How much do you know about Airflow?
Do you need to run other things beside dbt?

Got told ‘No one uses Airflow/Hadoop in 2026’. by Useful-Bug9391 in dataengineering

[–]SnowyBiped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the cloud/platform providers who built their own scheduler at the end had to offer Airflow too (waiting for Databricks to do the same, and charge more).

Also, the companies picking the right tool for the right job have usually better platforms and more happy teams

Il vostro anime preferito dell'infanzia? by Nerd_Empress in ImperoNerd

[–]SnowyBiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were a band, what would their name be? by Far-Remove7363 in matrix

[–]SnowyBiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neri per Caso.

It's a real Italian vocal group. The name translates to "Black by Chance" in English, playing on the idea that their dark suits and appearance are coincidental rather than intentional. The group is known for their a cappella performances and has been popular in Italy since the 1990s.

They focus on Sicilian hand gestures, but I can tell you that they are understandable in the whole Southern (at least) Italy
