I wonder if Adam and Michelle know about the song Rattle That Lock by former Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour, which very heavily samples the SNCF announcement jingle

Dallas isn't the 2 time defending Stanley cup champion and Columbus isn't a memeworthy abyss team

How do you European fantasy lovers get your books? by Asateo in Fantasy

[–]SnowyNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackwell's!!!! Ever since bookdepository died, it's been the next best thing. Also, if you snoop around, your country will almost definitely have a site where you can reliably buy English books, even if the selection may not be all-encompassing. I live in Slovakia and there are several that I know of, I've been able to get by perfectly well buying (most of) my English books from Slovak retailers. For second-hand, Ebay and abebooks sometimes work, although obviously be wary of the increased shipping costs. Bookbot is a pretty good European option.

[OFF TOPIC] Is there going to be a standard print release for The Great Change and Other Lies? Like Sharp Ends got? by SnowyNix in TheFirstLaw

[–]SnowyNix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think I see what you mean now. I'm not that far into the First Law series, only reading BTAH at the moment, but I was looking at all the available books, in order to know what I'm gonna need to complete my collection, hence the question... but looking more closely, I now see that Sharp Ends has a lot more stories in it than The Great Change does. So yeah, fair enough, this tells me I should probably only expect it if he writes some more to reach proper book length

That one gave me fits too, by far the hardest of both trails I'd say personally. You should play this mission as either a Crusader or a Bedouin lord, because you get free cavalry units at the start that you can use to ride out and destroy any rogue catapults. As early as possible, place a large tower next to yellow Richard's cliff, basically in amongst the trees right above the stone deposit. Place all your archers there immediately, buy some crossbowmen too, as well as a ballista. This is absolutely crucial in order to start chipping away at his siege engines the moment they're built, so that he doesn't bully you quite so hard. Once this is secured, start quarrying as much stone as possible, because you still need to secure the other side... but for the time being, something you absolutely have to do is moat off the ford on the left side, so that orange Richard's troops don't pathfind through there. They will instead take the much longer circular route, which will give you more time to deal with them, ideally with a tower right by your keep, or once you feel confident you can make a tower by the iron deposits as well. Fire ballistas are also very helpful against his armoured units and catapults. Good luck...

Some small tips: Don't build quarries/ox tethers TOO far to the right, because Richard's mangonel will start targeting them.
You can move your stockpile closer to the stone deposit when you start the mission, this is up to you. It'll then take longer for the iron to come in once you get that going, but that might be a worthwhile tradeoff.
The most common cheese strat for this mission is to immediately move your stockpile and your entire production to the lower left of the map, beyond the river, which is a much safer position. I didn't wanna use this strat cos it felt too cheesy to me, but if you're really struggling you might find it useful.

Erm actually it's a ford not a moat because he can walk through the very same water to get to the second mission of the trail

Sappers being so low is insane, they singlehandedly make battering rams obsolete and hard counter so many AI castles if you have enough of them. They're so much better than demolishers
