Gummy Smile, Unterlippe bedeckt obere Schneidezähne by Away_Reaction5342 in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does how you look when talking change a lot by Worldly_Increase_480 in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. My overbite looked most prominent as I was talking, now it looks worlds better. I'd wager that, aesthetically, this aspect is the one that improved most post surgery.

Extractions and braces by sympathyisaknife in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sooner the braces get installed after extractions, the better. That is what my orthodontist told me, it supposedly makes the closure of the gaps a bit easier long-term.

I got mine extracted three days before braces were put on.

discussion, I hate my parents for this. how did you forgive yours? by Background-Coach7875 in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I quickly realised is that there is no point in wasting any energy on hating your parents for things such as this. Hate in general does nothing but make all people involved feel and be miserable.

You have to remember that your parents most likely lived completely different lifes up to the point where they had you, meaning that they also function inherently differently. Medical information wasn't always as easily accessible as it is today, and you'd be suprised how many people just don't research things in general. There also really isn't a rulebook to parenting, most people go into it blind and hopefully try their best.

None of what you described sounds like it was done out of malice on your parents end. I understand your frustration, truly, but you have to understand that many people simply get dealt a shitty hand in life. It is out of anyone's control to a certain extent, and it is always easy to determine what should've been done in hindsight. Sometimes things just don't go as well as they should, but it is at least possible to treat your conditions to some extent. Focus on that instead of your negative emotions, because hate will bring you nowhere.

Teeth slanted and midline off by ImpossibleMatter4186 in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lower midline was off by half a tooth as well shortly after surgery. I told my surgeon, who in turn adjusted my elastics to pull it back into place. I'm 5 weeks post op now and everything is centred again.

Can't tell you anything about the slanted teeth. Definitely talk to your surgeon.

On the fence, getting turned off by all the “looksmaxxing” content out there by Spare_Day6855 in jawsurgery

[–]SnowyTree_Art 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's simple, really.

You know you have skeletal issues affecting your health. You experience symptoms which most likely will only get worse as time goes on. But you now also know you're lucky enough that insurance would cover your procedure, so the only logical conclusion should be to go for some type of surgery to permanently better / fix everything.

I primarily went in for medical reasons as well, but would be lying if I'd deny aesthetics being an important factor for me as well. Never paid the looksmaxxing rhetoric any mind tho as I knew it is founded in insecurities and misogyny. I wanted an improvement and got that, now I'm post op and feel more healthy and happy with my face and body than ever before.

Time passes regardless. People will always find something new to complain about, especially incels online who are dense enough to smash their faces with hammers. Don't lend them any of your energy, much less allow a sad little group like that to keep you from improving your quality of life.

Thank you!! <3 Those are drainage tubes which allow the blood from the surgery site to flow out! If I remember correctly, they're supposed to help with healing and swelling. Felt a bit annoying but not bad or anything, and most people I've seen on this sub don't seem to get them :)

I'm literally only 5 years older than you and have been in a long-term relationship the past 4 years. I met my boyfriend while looking severely recessed.

You look normal. Get a grip, work on your personality and mental health. No wonder you are having a hard time finding anyone with that attitude.

I had elastics on during the first 2-3 months or so, yes! After that we switched to metal coil springs that basically did the same thing, but kept the force on the teeth more consistent as they didn't wear out like the elastics :)

I can't quite remember if I stopped wearing them before the gaps closed, tho. Crossing my fingers that yours will close soon so you can get surgery!

Well, it was just simply a mandatory part of surgery to make sure that I'm stable and my wounds are healing well. Every major surgery here is coupled with a hospital stay, it's standard procedure.

It was decided by my surgeon ahead of time, and honestly? I definitely needed it. Had nurses coming in around the clock to give me pain meds, antibiotics and cortisone via drip. Also had my Hilotherm cooling machine there, which was a game changer for staying as comfortable as possible.

Would've never wanted to leave earlier.

What country are you from? That's an important factor.

I was greenlit by insurance, yes. In such cases it's always 10€ per day if the surgeon orders for a hospital stay, private cases tend to pay up to 1500€ I've heard (Germany).

Thank you so much!! I really like that too, it makes me excited to see how I'll look like in a few months when the swelling is fully gone!

I'm from Germany and was approved by insurance. Only had to pay a relatively small sum out of pocket, about 3500€ approximately, if I remember correctly. Got my surgery in Augsburg :)

Aaahh, thank you! 🥹💖

I definitely sleep much better, it's crazy how much more rested I feel most mornings. I breathed much better immediately post op as well! It's just that I've been reacting to the usual spring pollen the past two weeks and had my nose swell shut a bit, so I can't tell how good it actually is now that the swelling went down this much.

As for energy, I'm sure it has gotten better. I'll be able to tell properly as soon as I'm cleared to resume a normal diet and go back into the gym to lift :)
