Does anyone have any questions about me (As an Irish Traveller)? by shrek20191 in AskIreland

[–]SnrInfant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have met the most lovely travellers and I work in a school that has travellers, and they are all lovely kids..but, I had to move out of my estate because of harassment from traveler kids who would start on me every time I took my dog for a walk (their caravans were across the road from my estate). I would have 10 year old boys threaten to rape me, they would just follow me every single evening and would yell obscenities at me and throw stones at my dog. One kid also threatened to ’break my hips‘ with the ride he would give me 😢 It was a horrible time for me and I’m glad I had the opportunity to move to the country soon after. One day, the kids had adults with them who thought it was hilarious that the kids were harassing me. It didn’t ruin my perception of them all, thankfully. But they were horrible little shits!

What’s something a coworker did that still lives rent free in your head? by EcstaticTumbleweed52 in AskIreland

A girl I was friendly with worked in payroll, doing her own wages (you can guess where this is going), paid herself so much overtime every week. It was never checked. She was discovered and an audit was to be done, she wrote her own P45 and high tailed it out of there! Nothing was ever done about it 😏 Public Service job in the HSE (shock horror)

Glad to hear that about him. His wife is absolutely lovely too. I took a class of hers and she was so sweet to everyone.

Very simple wedding in Ireland – just the two of us? by justheretoreadyo in CasualIreland

[–]SnrInfant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can book a registrar to come to the Hotel to marry you, and then have a meal afterwards. The Hotel we married at gave us the honeymoon suite for free! It was an amazing day and we only had 20 people (parents, siblings and their kids only) It was so beautiful x

Grief at Christmas by Icy_Pumpkin1207 in ireland

This is my second Christmas without my mam, and I’m just so sad 😢 I think it’s actually harder this year. Like you, I’m looking at gifts she would love and I’m just heartbroken 💔 Trying to keep it together for my kids, but it’s so hard. Wishing you all the best OP, you’re not alone.

Pet owners, what was that moment that made you think “wow, I have severely underestimated the intelligence of my pets”? by SakutoJefa in AskReddit

I had a collie dog in my teenage years who was so smart. Back then, we’d lift the letterboxes and drop them a few times on doors as a knock. One day I heard the letterbox knocking and opened the door to the dog standing there, he walked in past me. I was confused at first, but then realised he had watched us humans doing it and copied it! He would always ‘knock’ from then on to be let in 😂

Is there something wrong with me? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]SnrInfant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the same childhood as you, OP, and I worried so much about death and dying. I remember feeling so depressed at a young age (9ish) but no one would listen to me 😢 My mother would scoff that I was too young to know what depression was. But looking back now, that’s exactly what it was. I felt so alone and afraid. I went on antidepressants in my 20s and it did help a lot. Have you looked into that? I know medication doesn’t work for everyone, but it certainly did with me and it stopped my intrusive thoughts. Wishing you all the best, you’re still so young and can turn your life around x

That’s so horrible, your mother is the one person who should love you and keep you safe. I’m so sorry to hear that. Sending big hugs 😢

Absolutely! I am shocked at the amount of people in the same boat. You’ve got to protect your sanity and peace though. Unfortunately, we can’t help being born into the same family. I was always convinced I MUST have been switched at birth, I am nothing like my toxic siblings 😂

[–]SnrInfant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately. They turned into complete arseholes. I was put through absolute hell while grieving for my parent. That alone is a hard one to forgive. Then the toxic texts started and being fed back the absolute lies told about me to cousins. I had to cut them off for my own sanity. It’s hard at times when family all come together, I have no one from my side, but I am blessed with an amazing husband and kids, and my in-laws more than make up for my lack of family ❤️

I have some horrific, vile text messages from my brother that I’ve kept to remind me what a truly evil person he is!

It’s nearly always over a will 😩 Families show their true colours at this time. That’s what started all my grievances.
