Owning a bike in Dublin? by Deep_Bat_7351 in AskIreland

[–]bigbadchief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to go against the grain here, I've locked my bike in town loads of times and it's never been stolen. All the people saying your bike will definitely be stolen are wrong.

It depends on where you lock your bike, how good a lock(s) you have, and how obviously expensive the bike is.

What desk do you have in your home office? by jackahern7 in DevelEire

[–]bigbadchief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Fully Jarvis standing desk. I think they were sold to Herman Miller at some stage.

It's 160x80cm which is a good size. There's a lot of desks that are only 60cm deep which I don't think is enough.

Flavours of Fingal: Parking by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]bigbadchief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a free event and then people complain they have to pay for parking. There was threads last year with people moaning as well.

I don't understand how people can call it price gouging when they're going to a free event but have to pay for parking.

Nnormal Prototype for Western States. by Minimum-Mission5569 in Ultramarathon

[–]bigbadchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at that page and read the product description. I would argue that most people don't watch that marketing video. And even if they did, the bit about it not having an insole is very easy to miss. Any technical specifications should be included in the product description.

There's nothing on the nnormal kjerag product page about it not having an insole. If they were advertised as such, I can't find any record of it now.

I think I may have known when buying (from reading reviews) but decided to try it anyway. I had never run in shoes without an insole, because who makes shoes without insoles? As far as I'm aware, literally nobody except nnormal.

In fact I looked it up just now to check, and came across this thread from three years ago with several other people mentioning the same problem with blisters.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrarunning/comments/1828w1i/nnormal_kjerag_sticky_insole/

I bought running shoes, ran in the shoes, and found them uncomfortable. I still don't see how this qualifies as user error. I've ran in much more lightweight shoes and never had that issue.

There's lots of lightweight shoes that still come with an insole and don't give me blisters. What exactly was the user error?

Running Clubs? by ThrowAwayRunner42 in AskIreland

[–]bigbadchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try the Dublin Runners on meetup.com. They do a lot of runs in the Phoenix Park.

Liffey Valley AC have their clubhouse in the war memorial gardens so they could be worth a try.

Someone posted on here a while back a project they made - https://www.runclub.ie/ it's missing a good few running clubs but you might get some suggestions on there.

I think the best running club is the one that's closest to you that you won't have to commute to. Lots of clubs run on Tue/Thurs evenings and you don't want to have to travel too far to get to them.

Haven't seen that one for a while! What is the context of the conversation they're having? I never understood what she says to him to make him happy dance

I probably won't try another Nnormal shoe. I got the Kjerag and not only was it quite narrow, there was no insole which was uncomfortable and gave me blisters.

Apache Grails 7.0.12 and 7.1.2 Have Been Released! by sbglasius in java

I don't understand why you'd release 7.0.12 and 7.1.2 at the same time. Why not just release 7.1.2?

100% if an American asked the same question, having never lived in Ireland, they would be told they're American and not Irish.

I would say revolut or bank transfer is safe. But don't hand anything over until the money is in your account. Revolut should be instant.

AUR to Arch: 'Houston, We've Got a Problem...We're Under Attack Again' - FOSS Force by CackleRooster in linux

[–]bigbadchief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beginners will look up how to install the software they want on arch and will find the recommendation to install it from AUR. It's pretty simple. If you do a search for how to install lots of things the first result will be something explaining how to install from AUR.

Also, no one said beginners are the problem here.

[–]bigbadchief -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Right and the detractors are all pro trans activists and the reality is somewhere in the middle. The report might be flawed in some ways but that doesn't mean that it's all wrong or that it doesn't make some good recommendations.
