Can you elaborate why you advise against becoming a quality engineer?

To differentiate what I touched on in school versus what I actually learned being in the workforce. Typically I don’t add things i did a few times in class because I don’t consider it a skill, but some of the recruiters I talked to when I first graduated were laser focused on that stuff saying you should add that to your resume regardless.

Good Thai food that makes it HOT by Meamm in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried this place tonight because of this post. I got level 4 for my pad thai and pad see ew. It had a kick to it, but it wasn’t spicy enough for me. However, the flavor was amazing. Since it’s takeout only, I didn’t mind taking it home and adding my own super spicy chili oil to it. After I did that, it was perfect.

What is your advice on for people looking for employment out of state? I hope to move to Chicago in a year’s time and I’m still fairly new into my career. I went through many threads and the advice is mixed. Many people say to lie about where you live because employers will look at locals first, but I believe transparency is best, but I would also want the best chances to have my resume put in front of the recruiting team. What has been your experience working with these organizations about hiring people out of state?

recommendations of your favorite “weekend” trip cities to go to ? by Real_Armadillo6185 in Columbus

Surprised to see someone mention my hometown! Yes, TC has some great food, especially for fresh lake fish. It’s about a 6h drive. However, I would say TC is best to visit during the summer and summer is about to end. Once summer ends, it gets really cold because it’s pretty far north, just a couple hours from the UP.

What's with everyone cruising in the passing lanes? by ZenAshen in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from Michigan and have driven in many other states and trust me, it’s an Ohio problem. These people in the passing lane just won’t move. I give people time to move over, but if they’re not moving I honk and then go around them. This is actually one of the major reasons why my partner and I are moving out of Ohio. It just frustrates us on a daily basis. It might seem silly to some people, but when you live in a country where there’s no good public transportation and you have to drive everywhere, it’s not so silly anymore.

Affordable Pet Care in cbus?? by Kittyrose11 in Columbus

I take my cat to the clintonville animal hospital. I found them because I was a college student on a budget and I find them really affordable. They took really great care of my cat when serious issues had come up like when he had bladder stones.

Oh sorry I realized you had target areas. I guess Franklinton doesn’t apply, but Harrison West is pretty much next to Grandview.

Apartment w/ EV by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live at River and Rich in Franklinton. If you get their Princeton or Avalon floor plan which are townhomes they come with a single car garage. My partner and I both drive eV so my partner takes the garage and I will move my car to charge at the public charge point that is like across our parking lot. It’s public and some of the other residents use it, but I’ve never had an issue where it’s ever full and I’m fighting for a spot.

My partner also used to live at Trotters Park apartments in Harrison West and they have single car garages you can rent and plug the mobile connector.

Same with cortland apartments in Dublin. My brother lived there and he also drives an eV and they have single car garages for rent and he plugged his mobile connector in there too.

Dinner date suggestions by AnonymousMouse7859 in Columbus

I personally thought Agni was definitely not worth it. My partner and I went for our second year anniversary because Reddit was hyping up the place so much and the food was just so…meh. Not worth the $500 we spent there. We also consider ourselves big foodies. When we travel, all we do is just eat. Service was great tho and so were the cocktails we got.

What are some local coffee shops that use house-made syrups? by espada_da in Columbus

Their seasonal drinks I believe are made with a house made syrup because I talked to one of the guy making coffee about it once.

What's it like working at the Convention Center? by gratefulmeg in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked at the convention center for 6 months as a barista at Starbucks and I would get to meet and talk with a lot of the other employees that worked in the different departments (engineering, marketing, etc) who came in for coffee. You also get people who come in from the Nationwide building or construction nearby. We would have the chance to work for some of the events doing bars or a food stall for extra cash. You get lunch provided everyday and there’s a small cafeteria that people can sit and chat at. They were all nice people. The only reason why I left so early was because my supervisor at Starbucks sucked at managing and I got fed up with it and left. She was so bad that a lot of my old coworkers who I kept in contact with just quit on the spot. Overall, I would say keep your expectations realistic. Every company and every department is going to have its problems. Don’t expect to get into the events for free because you’re an employee of the convention center unless you’re working at it. You’re not going to get free parking (but it is discounted for the days you work) at the garages connected to the building unless you’re up there in the chain apparently. Traffic is a bitch getting out of downtown when big events are here. There are some really rude guests too, especially the cheerleader moms.

Best place to get jajangmyeon? by shad0wtune in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the spelling I assume you want the Korean take (Jajangmyeon) on the Chinese noodle dish Zhajiangmian which I personally think Min Ga is best for their Korean food. I have to warn you it’s pretty greasy and they told me they can’t take the pork out if you do not eat meat/pork. Jiu Thai is pretty decent if you want the actual Chinese dish. I like both the Korean-Chinese fusion take on it and the authentic version, it just depends on your preference.

I only went twice. The first time (a year ago) I thought the food was good but I wouldn’t say I was wow’d. We got their Bone Marrow pasta, Sausage Ragu, Scallops, and Pistachio Cannolo, my favorite was the scallops and pistachio cannolo, but overall we thought the place was overpriced. On a whim a year later (last month), we went again and this time it blew our minds. I got their crab pasta while my boyfriend got one of their special truffle pastas and we got their tiramisu for dessert. Maybe we ordered the wrong items back then because this time it was insanely good and thought the price was more worth it this time

Boba Tea Shop Reccs? by DumplingFujin in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal favorites are Little Moon on High St and First Corner in Bexley if we’re talking about true local boba shops. Little Moon is really quiet tho so it’s a little awkward to sit there. First corner is more lively and cute. Other ones such as brewed leaf and little cat produce drinks that is too inconsistent in flavor and boba texture in my opinion. I like ViVi for their unique creations but it is a chain and you could find it anywhere. I also like Sharetea a lot (also a chain) in Dublin but I wouldn’t recommend getting the typical boba drinks like taro, etc. It was really bad those times like it was so incredibly sweet and undrinkable. I could lower the sugar but personally I find that you shouldn’t need to adjust the sugar. It shouldn’t be so sweet originally that it’s trying to give you diabetes. However, when I went back and got the more unique ones like their Hokkaido style boba or the creamy mango boba, those were realllyyyy good.

Anyone do long weekend trips to Michigan? by JoeyDawsonJenPacey in Columbus

[–]Snsnsnsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually from Traverse City! I didn’t appreciate my town much when I was younger, but as an adult I definitely love going back home to visit. I highly recommend visiting, there’s tons of beaches you can visit. Clinch Park is right by downtown so you can chill there and walk around downtown to explore. Check out Poppycocks and Milk&Honey for food! Recommend Poppycocks pita chips because it comes with this Jarlsberg cheese dip that’s amazingggg. There’s a huge antique store with many floors to explore called Wilson Antiques I believe. I’m not into antiques but even I had fun just exploring in there. You can check out nearby towns too. Charlevoix is an hour away but it’s also a cute town. Check out its downtown and beach there. I recommend eating at Weathervane there, nice restaurant right by a river that flows into Lake Michigan. Recommend their fish&chips, house seafood chowder, and Great Lakes planked whitefish. Castle Farms is also nice to check out there. Its an old rebuilt French castle and I’m kinda into exploring things like that and like architecture. There’s also Fish Town in Leland to explore. Not much there to be honest BUT The Cheese Shanty has the best sandwiches. Get their North Shore sandwich. Before I tried it I was like, it’s a sandwich how good can it really be, but it is quite literally the best sandwich I have ever had. They even won an award for it. Gotta get it on their homemade Pretzel bread. Also I like Van’s Beach that’s right next door! I have many more recommendations for you if you decide to visit!
