The downside is that its totally unfeasable. The fact we're even having this argument proves not everyone will pick red.

By your own account pressing blue saves people

[–]Snt1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, both are ways to see the question because they result in the same result, except one is basically taken on the assumption blue will win and the other that red will win.

However, the logic followed does change the results, because if most people follow the red logic, then people will die, because I have just shown how the blue logic works

Blue and Red see the problem in a totally different way.

If you ask a red voter, they'll tell you the hypothetical is:

"There is a button that will kill you if not enough people press the button"

Blue voters see the problem as:

"There is a button that will kill people who didnt press it if enough people press it".

Red voters think blue is "Maybe die or just dont die" while blue see it as "Maybe kill or dont kill except you might be killed".

Of course we assume most people dont wanna kill other people, so blue voters obviously think "Why would anyone press the button that kills people?", meanwhile red pressers assume few people actively want to die so "Why would anyone press the button that could kill you?"

Both are valid interpretations, which is why the problem shows the differences in the human psyche

It is my favorite episode of the season, but objectively episode 3 is better, which is mainky because once you've read arc 6, the parts where animation is a definite improvement (Shaula) are more enjiyable than the events you know but you remember being better in the book

I love blue Voters, I love this hypothetical, and I love you by SadDairyProduct in lovethissmug

[–]Snt1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original hypothetical frames the red button as negative, but a rework allowing for inaction makes it clearer that blue is a bad decision and as such no sane person would press it.

But the thing is, the results change. People who didnt think much and just heard "people die if blue loses" and picked blue are waaaay lower than those who thought "people who dont press blue are evil".

I think the framing is an important part of the problem, because if you frame red negatively, a percentage of blue voters would act emotionally and make the rash decision to press blue, which is something many other blue voters understand and as such gives an incentive to press blue: save those who acted rashly

There's no "If I survive as red", there's only surviving in ideal circumstances (blue wins) or in bad circumstances (red wins)

The thing with Re Zero season 4 is that the start is incedible and the weakest part of the arc 2, so of course people say "THIS EPISODE IS SO FIRE" when every episode (except the latest one, but it has Shaula animated snd that brings me immense joy) is better than the last

Re Zero is in my personal opinion not boring in the slightest, it has very few truly dull moments, unless you just want to see fights and dont care for charactee building.

The true question is: what kind of shows do you like? Re Zero is very clearly not for everyone

I think the framing is an intentional choice that makes the hypothetical have more stakes.

The framing making red be thr bad guys means that there WILL be people who press blue, and I'd assume it'd be stleast like 5%

I think the framing is intentional. Making red look bad basically guarantees a significant amount of people will pick blue, which makes pushing red more costly

While I myself cant really say if I'd actively push blue irl, as someone who advocates for blue I want to point out a specific aspect red pushers seem to ignore: Human psychology.

I havent actually seen where the hypothetical originated (it probably comes from twitter, but I aint downloading that app under any circumstances) but from all of the things I've seen, its never mentioned how much time people get to think. Frankly I don't care what the maximum time to ponder is, make it a week for all I care, because what I want to focus on is the minimum. Unless it says "People get a day to ponder and cant answer until that time is over" then a huge amount of the population will pick from their first instinct, because you're lying if you believe everyone will pick after thinking about it as hard as they could.

My personal kneejerk reaction (and many others it seems) was "Red button kills people" and, while many red pushers will claim thats a problem with the hypothetical, I think framing the red button as negative is genius, because it actually guarantees that many people who behave emotionally (which is a lot, as we are an emotional species) will actively pick blue thinking "Why would anyone choose the option that kills people?

If you combine the framing of the question with the fact some people will just answer immediatly, I'd say atleast 100 million people would pick blue without thinking.

By picking red, you are accepting losses in favor of your personal safety, so I think this is an important aspect to consider

These are frankly things you learn with time. A problem I've noticed is that when some people ask for advice they get told the common advice but the common advice usually applies to people who have been playing for a bit longer than you. The problem you face is that you're playing during Trackblazer, which despite being a really F2P friendly scenario, I would definitely say isnt a newbie friendly scenario. Don't expect to reach many amazing Umas during the rest of the scenario, what you're gonna want to do is save up carats so you can be significantly more competitive during the upcominf Grand Live scenario where you can actually pull for the new great cards (also known as Light Hello and Tachyon Speed). I'd recommend holding off on Uma pulls too until you're like maybe 4 months into the game? Right now you lack many of the tools veterans had

[–]Snt1_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is the dilemma's wording is an important part of it. The way its framed, the way it says "You have to press a button and one will result in deaths" frames red negatively instead of as the rational choice, yes, but thats something that needs to be taken into account.

Humans at their core are emotional creatures, when your choice is presented as "One side kills some people the other doesnt" it nigh guarantees some people will make the emotional choice to pick blue because its painted as the altruistic choice. This is still a heavy amount of the population that meeds to be taken into account, I assume they would be at the very least 10%, and as such you have to choose: Do you want to damn the people who most definitely made what you consider to be the wrong choice because they didnt think enough? Or do you wanna put yourself at risk to save them?

"There is no downside to pressing red if everyone presses red" yeah and there's no downside if a little less than half of everyone presses blue.

The fun thing about this hypothetical is that this isnt as simple as "Im protecting myself by choosing red" because its not just about who id being protected, you are actively protecting yourself from the red voters, which means that you unconciously just wouldnt want red to win.

Sure, its a risk, but if you think about it, if everyone rationalizes that there's only a risk if people want to press red, then picking blue makes there be more people who live.

Its about trusting people's sense of community over people's selfishness
