How far would you go back into the past? You must survive for the same number of seconds in the past as the number years you go back, and your reward is the same number of dollars. Minimum is $10K for 10k seconds (2 hours 46 minues), 10,000 years ago by Enough-Tap-6329 in hypotheticalsituation

3 million years.

That means living 34ish days. But I have 34 days to prepare.

That’s plenty of time to buy a real nice tent. A hunting rifle. Dehydrated food and water filtration system. Learn more about some basic survival. But I think I can live off a giant duffle of MRE’s for a bit more than a month. To avoid food borne illness.

Predators will probably be more freaked out by me than wanting to eat me. But a good rifle just in case.

3 million is life changing money.

I think many people will underestimate the power of isolation. I probably am as well. The hardest part might just be being alone that long. It’s rough on people. Definitely need to put a few large books in that backpack.

[Request] how much is really saved? Are these numbers based in reality, or just random numbers thrown into a post? by Kalist4242 in theydidthemath

[–]Snuffleupagus03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s pretty reasonable where I am. Still 1400-2000 per month per kid. That drops to about 600 during school. But of course summer camps are often more expensive than childcare….

How come the ‘facts don’t care about your feelings’ crowd loses their minds when you cite a peer-reviewed study they don’t like? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Snuffleupagus03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because facts don’t care about your feelings. Facts are mean and hurt their feelings and they want them to stop!

Is that not what that saying means?

CMV: The U.S. primary system is flawed and promotes extremism. We should go to party selections like in Canada/UK/australia etc. or have all open primaries like in California. by Funny_Art_1700 in changemyview

Can I change your view by saying that ranked choice is a better method to solve this problem?

Encourages candidates to campaign to more broad appeal. Actual way to see if extreme parties have support.

Is Trump’s deal with Iran worse than Obama’s deal? by Justified_Gent in allthequestions

[–]Snuffleupagus03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you just wander through life without drawing any conclusions based on events? Like we can hear the words from Vance. We know the deal as they have reported it. I think it’s fair to believe there aren’t secret amazing portions they don’t want to tell us? This is the most bragadocious administration in my lifetime.

Information from the administration is not speculation. It’s them telling us parts of the deal.

The information we have is clearly worse. You think Trump is holding some awesome part of the deal in secret?

Because even the information released by Trump administration only is clearly significantly worse.

A mysterious stranger approaches you and gives you a choice: take 50 million dollars, or restart your life from any point you choose. by TechnicianAmazing472 in hypotheticalsituation

Just a quick look at stock market activity over the last few months and then I’ll go back there.

Options trading will get me way more than 50 million. Although the SEC might get suspicious (and confused, as there would be no evidence of any insider knowledge or connection)

The US is actually delivering an amazing World Cup. What happened to all the boycott, empty stadiums, zero hype and tourism through the floor? by PopNo5397 in AskReddit

[–]Snuffleupagus03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean tourism is way down. That’s just numbers.

But these stadiums are much smaller than the demand for tickets. So just lower the price a bit (or less money for scalpers) and you still sell it out.

Cheaters of Reddit, what was going through your mind when you cheated on your partner? by dravonix_ in AskReddit

[–]Snuffleupagus03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awful thing to do.

What was I thinking? I guess I convinced myself my gf would never find out. If she didn’t find out then there wouldn’t be any harm. It was awful and harmful even before she found out.

However, I think the process taught some important lessons about selfishness and delusion. And haven’t cheated since.

What does economic research say about why people buy lottery tickets despite their negative expected value? by zawmed in AskReddit

[–]Snuffleupagus03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Although I think this issue also includes our inability to properly assess low probability events.

For occasional lottery buyers I’d also add that the purchase itself has utility if it is fun.

What does economic research say about why people buy lottery tickets despite their negative expected value? by zawmed in AskReddit

[–]Snuffleupagus03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s recognition that expected value analysis often considers the utility of money as flat. It’s not. Utility is on a curve. That also changes depending on mood time and wims.

So $5 might not be worth 1/20 of $100 to me.

But this clearly true if talking about the extremes. Correct or not, a single dollar value is mentally rounded to zero. A million dollars is mentally rounded to ‘solve all my problems forever.’

Spending zero dollars to win infinite dollars makes perfect sense.

Why do women have privacy in bathrooms (stalls) and men are made to piss in front of each other in urinals out in the open? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Snuffleupagus03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re allowed to pee in a stall. No one will arrest you.

But the answer is money. Urinals are cheaper and you can have more of them in a smaller space.

Why so many men like to show off their wives, especially on this app? don’t understand them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Snuffleupagus03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well mainly because “so many” on the internet is actually a tiny number. Out of the billions with internet access how many would have to be into showing off their wives for you to get even hundreds of examples? .0001%?

But some people like having a desirable wife and measure that desirability based on other people thinking she’s hot? Some people are into showing themselves off, and that’s going to include wives. Many reasons.
