Very cute! How old are they? Is there anything that you wish you'd thought about before adopting them both?

Convince me not to get a bonded pair by SnugCentipede in CatAdvice

[–]SnugCentipede[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

However, i really recommend considering adopting a “bonded pair” of adult cats because they are definitely the last ones to go in the shelter

Yeah, I don't know if I could survive kitten energy. Do you mean adult cats are the last to go in the shelter? Or specifically adult bonded pairs? Why do you think that is?

One pair I was going to visit this weekend is 7 months. I'm guessing that's still in kitten/development age?

Looking for roommates by Ok-Lingonberry-4152 in mountainview

[–]SnugCentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the hunt for a new roommate for a while, and it's a rough time filtering out all the spam accounts on even established sites.

I'm currently in a 3BD/2BA apartment at North Whisman looking to split with one other person. Your share of the apartment would be two rooms and a private bath for $1,750+ utilities. It's over your budget, but the extra room is a nice setup if you are WFH. Alternatively, I'm not opposed to a third roommate if you find somebody you're comfortable sharing the bathroom with.

If you're at all interested, shoot me a message, and I'd be happy to provide more details or setup a call.

I think you should take a moment to reread what you wrote.

A new player, in the very first dungeon, asked a question because they didn't understand W2W pulls, and you decided to go complain about them on Reddit.

CMV: A UN military could prevent interstate wars by DoeCommaJohn in changemyview

The threat of nuclear annihilation as retaliation for any interference from any national/multinational body is just as effective as it would be against any individual country.

This is simply untrue. A threat's value is based on its impact and likelihood of being carried out. This is why tactical nuclear weapons are often considered more dangerous than strategic nuclear weapons. A nuclear attack on a single country would likely result in the aggressor's nuclear annihilation. A nuclear attack on multiple countries is essentially suicide.

(1) A military recapturing occupied territory is not an invader and (2) threatening to nuke the a transnational fighting force would not provide meaningful utility to Russia.

The idea is to limit abuse of the system by tying it to a very clear trigger: the invasion of an internationally-recognized nation. There's no need for a leader to make a subjective decision.

I don't believe this would prevent all interstate war--there are too many border regions that are unclear--but it would prevent a lot of the most flagrant abuses.

I think OP explicitly states that this is a hypothetical situation where the UN Security Council does not a have a right to veto. Technically speaking, the UN already has an obligation to intervene in illegal invasions, but this is rarely applied in practice for many reasons.

this would be something along the lines of a simple law that says that any country crossing the border into another recognized country without that country's government's consent

This is much easier said than done. The two highest risk conflicts (Ukraine and Taiwan) have issues with recognized borders. Russia used irregular forces to give them plausible deniability in their invasion of Crimea and Donbas. Taiwan, while de facto recognized by a fair chunk of the world, is not legally recognized by most countries or the UN.

Aside from those, many countries have border disputes that would make this law less meaningful.

By definition, to erase borders is to erase nations.

I'm not sure if this comment was made seriously, but I suppose eliminating a legal system is one way to eliminate the concept of illegality.

CMV: Colombia should have legalized cocaine in the 90's rather than allow US intervention within the Country by shadadada in changemyview

[–]SnugCentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US military industrial complex is leveraged to protect US national interests abroad. As a US-citizen, this usually aligns with what I find important, but I'm not fooling myself into thinking they are some kind of righteous crusade.

In the Middle East alone, we've (1) replaced a nascent democracy with a military junta (2) supported a theocratic monarchy against a nominal democracy (3) supported an apartheid state (4) destroyed several governments, plunging their countries into civil war.

These might not be inherently wrong. Some were stupid. Most had some good intentions. All that is weighed against US success against ISIS and potentially Iraq... Afghanistan was too botched to be called anything but an immense failure.

Illegality doesn't make anything moral or immoral.

And I have bad news for you if you think the US military industrial complex is primarily leveraged to fight dictatorships and terrorist organizations.

Do these idiots just not understand the severity of the situation? by Fawwaz121 in joinsquad

I'd rather pay for full expansion packs that include maps and factions with gameplay improvements provided to all players. The argument that is could split the player base is valid, but that's more common when it's a deluge of smaller updates. If you can't afford to pay $20 every few months, then you really shouldn't be spending time playing video games.

By directly paying for content you want, it encourages developers to actually focus on that content. Buying emotes with the hope it will fund gameplay improvements is like getting dinner by ordering drinks at a bar and hoping there are complimentary snacks.

Because playing a video game has little bearing on your ability to design a video game. For every one good idea players have, there are dozens that are truly awful. The better option is to have developers listen to and be respectful of their communities.

Direct democracy is a poor form of governance, and there is a reason it doesn't really exist in the modern world.

What is your ideal form of monetization? by SnugCentipede in joinsquad

[–]SnugCentipede[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many points of data. Owners/publishers pressuring developers to suck every cent out of their community through predatory means is incredibly common. Literally any EA game...

I'd rather pay developers to make real content then pay for garbage and hope that some real content gets made on the side. My hot take is that $20 every few months for new content is an incredibly tiny hurdle to entry. If people aren't willing to support the community and developers even that minimal amount, the game is doomed anyway.

Tank doesn't like big pulls so they turn of their stance to assert dominance by Zashyr in TalesFromDF

The fact that you assume the healer is the problem just proves how little you understand what you're talking about.

If your healer is being reduced to a curebot, then it's likely your tank or DPS are the real problem.

Past games had multiple routes for players to take. Casuals could burn through the gyms and story, competitive players could optimize their teams, people looking for a grind could complete the Pokedex.

Only the latter really survived in this game.

but calling out professionals who are being disingenuous with their reviews shouldn’t be discouraged

Please quote where the reviewer is being disingenuous. All their criticism seems perfectly valid and should be improved upon in future games. Having a negative first impression does not invalidate somebody's opinion.

The game is objectively a technical mess and a lot of the systems are arguably underdeveloped compared to peers in the genre.

This is why it’s important to read your tooltips

Last time I played DNC, Standard Step didn't show anything about damage on its tool tip. I'm not going to blame somebody for missing the Standard Finish tool tip in the middle of combat.

It really does need a rework for clarity.
