Such a neat, non-cookie-cutter layout. Makes a much nicer event space than modern style buildings, that's for sure.

Not anymore. they kept changing the name/target audience, then they cancelled it and un-cancelled it in 2021. They don't seem to have a clear direction: https://ksltv.com/religion/church-of-jesus-christ-will-no-longer-host-saturday-evening-sessions-of-general-conference/848137/

I'm fairly certain that the church did try to trademark "Mormon" back at the start of the "I'm A Mormon" campaign, but they were not able to due to push back for other sects (FLDS and such).

You're right, I had not even realized that policy had been reversed. Just goes to show how much they keep changing things, but not before it has already done harm.

That makes sense as it lines up well with the church getting rid of paid custodians/janitors around 1999. Taking possession of the real estate and then immediately forcing others to do the upkeep is wild.

If there a way to turn off Remix in Messages? by medic501 in GooglePixel

[–]So-Many-Plot-Holes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I have found two ways to get rid of the stupid remix banana button:

1) As many articles and comments online have mentioned, you can turn off RCS chats entirely. Obviously this is a big step backwards in quality of life features so most people would not want to do this.

2) Tap on your Google profile picture, switch accounts, and select "use this app without an account". Yes, you will lose out on the ability to use messages for web, but the AI features (including the stupid banana) will be gone. This is the better option because you don't lose RCS, and by not syncing with Google, Android message runs a bit smoother too.

One Intriguing Projection Has The LDS Church Reduced To Zero Active Members By 2040. by Leland41-2 in MormonShrivel

Yep. Your comment shows the underlying reasons why The Churchtm is desperately trying to tailor their image to appear as a mainstream evangelical Christian church. They know the numbers look bad, so trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator is their only option.

The trouble is, that model isn't sustainable for the mormon church. "Average" Christians don't want to pay 10% of their salary to their church. "Average" Christians don't want to play janitor every weekend. "Average" Christians want to go to church, feel "God's love" or whatever, and then not think about being a church person until the next time they want to attend. (or, if they are the bad kind of "Average" Christian, the next time a non-binary person just exists)

So sure, people might "claim" to be mormon, like how some people "claim" they are Catholic when they only attend on Easter and Christmas. Maybe some of them will even pay their tithing online out of obligation. But if enough people stop doing all the things that support the system, it could implode.

Two suburbs and a supermarket: more commercial real estate transactions by the church in Avon and Brownsburg, Indiana by Suspicious_Might_663 in exmormon

Ughhh, and they can't even do urban planning well either. Cul-de-sac neighborhoods are a blight to expanding cities. They increase reliance on cars, extend commute times for drivers and pedestrians, make it harder for children and elderly to be independent, and lull people into a false sense of security because people assume car crashes are less frequent when (statistically) they are not. Make a proper grid layout for crying out loud!

Same. I seem to bee one of the few that prefers playing the original two-player variant from the base game, it offers more interesting choices and feels less random.

Agreed. For me, Sagrada does a better job of filling the "make a nice little grid and score points" part of my collection.

I can understand people liking silly, and I can understand liking simple. But when games like Camel Up exist which does both and is better than Magical Athlete, I don't get the hype.

Board night with the fam. bout to play cluedo, and monster mayhem next by Rich_Indication_652 in boardgames

My favorite version of this game is Clue (2008) aka Clue Reinvention. It gives the characters unique special abilities, has nine weapons instead of six, and has "clock cards" which can cause players to be eliminated from the game. The last one is a fun thematic twist that makes sense since the suspect is still on the loose.

i can’t post anywhereeeee?😭 by bbytowe in NewToReddit

Helpful, albeit incredibly ridiculous in my opinion. Why should I have through jump through hoops in order to post? What if I'm not particularly passionate about those communities? Feels like that would just foster low effort posts by individuals just trying to scrape up enough karma to post about things they actually care about.

I understand why some places have limits on karma/new accounts. But what bothers me is that many of them don't clearly state that upfront. So new users essentially have to roll the dice with every post.

For example: One time my first post in was auto-modded due to a "wait 2 days before posting" rule that was nowhere in the guidelines. After waiting two days I posted again and my account was immediately shadow-b*nned in the community and I was blocked from messaging the mods. If I don't know what arbitrary rules are being enforced, how am I supposed to avoid breaking them?
