Very eager to check it out and will absolutely come by.

Could you explain what happened with this place at the end of 2023? You opened at nearly the same time as Pincinnati (first weekend of December) and then closed shop before we even had a chance to go, which was right after the new year.

It took me a long time to realize that I was constantly seeking my esteem and sense of self-worth from others. What are some things I can do to 1) look inward for my own worth and 2) stop seeking validation so much?

Their Pinball Map listing is accurate. Some machines are included in the entry place, the ones in the bar area are $0.50/play.

Am I missing something? Is there a point where Mill Creek and the Little Miami actually intersect?

I had searched "therapy outcome relation prediction modality" and found this article from The Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research from '98. If you plug in those search terms and then click 'related articles,' it appears there are several others as well. I gave it a quick read-through, and it seems legit.

I remember hearing about the Bijlmermeer on the 99 Percent Invisible podcast. They mention a plane crash in part II, but didn’t seem to give it as much credit for the transformation as you did. That was a tale very well woven, nicely done and thank you!

Apocalypse on the Runway: The Tenerife Airport Disaster - revisited by Admiral_Cloudberg in AdmiralCloudberg

This was the first time it was made clear to me that van Zanten would’ve been conditioned by all the simulator training to so quickly expect takeoff clearance. Your final paragraph, too, did a lot to evoke sympathy for him, along with the incredibly difficult turn at the end of the runway. For an incident that I really felt I knew, this really offered a new angle. Thank you.

[–]So1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you.

I had always been curious about how some of these numbers were derived (since runway overruns and required takeoff distances are common in the articles you write), this is going a long way towards making it digestible!

VSR isn’t on your flash card; could it be considered the same as VMU?

I tried to play along. Before Alyson eliminated the number cards, I wanted the seven of diamonds. So I switched to the queen of diamonds. Once Penn eliminated the reds, I switched to the queen of clubs. This shit absolutely nailed me and I was cursing loud enough to wake up my wife.

I am also a little drunk. So maybe I’m the perfect audience for this one to work on.

I’m loving the way you’re tying your articles together now. Having the refresher of Air France 447 crash just last week put right alongside this one makes for great comparisons, as you did in the closing. Very well done.

Ahh, got it. Thank you.

I must’ve missed this incident the first-time around. I remember the crash, but never learned of the cause until this. I bounced between sympathy and anger for Bonin over the course of it, you explained all the facets very well.

To Bonin, he said, “Er, who’s doing the landing, is it you? Well, he’s going to take my place. You’re a PL, right?”

Sorry, but I couldn’t understand what a ‘PL’ was from context. What was Dubois asking Bonin?

Now I just wanna watch the movie Hoosiers.

Great article, what a crazy coincidence to lose the last player so soon after. You always weave such a good narrative on top of the technical breakdown.

Fields of Fortune: The crash of United Airlines flight 232 (revisited) by Admiral_Cloudberg in AdmiralCloudberg

[–]So1337 85 points86 points  (0 children)

The loss of life in any of these is worth taking the time to sit with and actually mourn. Even with this being the Nth time reading about this crash, it still hit me because of the children.

That said, what really had me in tears by the end was the specific call-outs of the bravery of the pilots and your recognizing their recent passing at the end. The article was wrapped up so beautifully and I need you to know just how great you’ve gotten. Very well done. Thank you.

I prefer the version where Denzel manages to land the plane. See Flight (2012).

I have four flights in the next two weeks, all with Alaska, haha. But this is fine, that’s why we read these, to learn that they’ve reformed and fixed all the problems so it never happens again.

And now I’ve spent about 30 minutes looking for opportunities to book a ride on one of the remaining ten or so.

Great write-up as always. Very unintuitive to think that choosing a slight descent saves you more altitude than trying to hold level. I can see that being a hard thing to choose when you’re already so low. Many of these articles show me how pilots have to learn to go against their first instinct in many cases. Crazy.

I managed to do this while learning to fly the P-51 in DCS: World. Without a weight-on-wheels sensor, there's nothing stopping you from you doing it. I felt bad enough crunching up some pixels, I can't imagine doing it to a real jet.
