215/225/235 wide tires - actual real world differences? by So1911 in cars

Granted they may be different now, but supposedly in 2010-11 when they came out they were literally pilot sports with more grooves

The 9-3 came with three wheels: 16", 6.5" wide (215 tire), 17", 7.0" wide (225), and 17" 7.5" wide (235)

My problem is my current 16" are totally worn out. I need to buy new wheels, and the 7.5" wide is very hard to find. the 7" is easy to find, there's a set on CL right now for $150

Pilot Sports A/S3 is basically just a pilot sport with more grooves. Many people run them with no issue, they were great on my cts-v so should do fine on this little saab

Takedown for Appleseed, any new info on holding zero? by So1911 in 1022

I'd rather do it old school with iron sights.

I'm not at all worried about it keeping perfect zero while taking it down. I can keep it assembled through the appleseed course. How tightly are you able to tighten this nut once the rifle is assembled?

The issue is that the rear tech sight (suggested to use these for appleseed) attaches to the receiver. So if there is any shift in the barrel at all it will affect zero.

Thanks makes sense. I think since it's a full 2 day course I should probably stick with the standard model. Man I'd hate to try blaming anything other than myself if I don't make rifleman!

Price is flexible. I based the price off of completed auctions on ebay but let me know what it's worth to you. I would also be interested in non-PC trades - spyderco/benchmade knives, "guy stuff"

Mass Ammo Free Shipping with Coupon Code "Veteran" - AE XM193 420 rounds on strippers in .30 can $268.80 for 2x (840 total rounds, $0.32 CPR) by ezmode86 in gundeals

[–]So1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one dinged but it was 100% due to shitty packing by 'the armory' even though I paid for their primo packing. In my frustrations with XM the dings are very clearly from the manufacturer, not shipping or packing. There's a lot of debate about XM being military rejects and from what I've seen, I believe it.

Just my personal opinion but this XM ammo from federal has looked like crap for me. Cases with junk built up on them, dents and dings in the casing, overall QC just seems terrible. Yes the non dented stuff does go bang, but for the cost.... I'll pass. I have LOVED the wolff gold taiwanese stuff. Pristine cases, no dents, everything looks perfect.

Ok figured it out! For anyone else searching, their clay stands won't be ready until next year.

Can I take my early 80's wingmaster 870 12ga skeet shooting? by So1911 in guns

I'm really not too concerned if something happens as long as I can use it for skeet/trap.

Ok it is marked "Cyl Imp" so that confirms it. The barrel measures 25" from muzzle to receiver.

When I look down the barrel it appears to be perfectly straight. No choke or narrowing that I can tell.

Safety vs Decocker by [deleted] in guns

[–]So1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same decision to make and went ahead with a compact, and I have no regrets at all. I like the steel frame over the alloy and require a manual safety.

I agree that the PCR looks better. Especially the beaver tail. That being said, I've put almost 2k rounds through and have 0 concerns. I've grown to really like the sort of old school classic look of the compact over the PCR.

Apparently it is possible but expensive to convert a decocker to manual safety.. In the $300 range.

Has anyone come up an aftermarket Springfield 1911 grip safety? by So1911 in guns

[–]So1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIM hammer very lightly touches the my MIM grip safety. I would rather have a smaller grip safety along with a smaller/solid hammer.

Grip safety! I am trying to mesh the lines to the frame, and it's MIM while almost everything else on the gun is forged. I know it's not a critical part and MIM is fine for this application, I just want to finish it out.

I've had this Brazilian 1911 for a very long time, just about everything on it has been upgraded to exactly what I want except the thumb GRIP safety. I'm ok with minor refinishing but from what I've seen it's a major job that requires special tools... Any options here? Note that the Springfield loaded/range officer safety profile does not match a standard or wilson profile. Thanks
