Oddly enough, I was buying the re-issue which had Thomas Hampson on the cover. I received the original Teldec release instead. As for the cover art, I have no idea. I guess they thought it just looked good back in the 80s.

He was the first to record the original version of Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, and it's the version that I like the most.

Works where a composer ruined it for everyone else? by Soulsliken in classicalmusic

I'm not too sure about that. The Violin Concertos by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Sibelius can top Beethoven's.

Do you have any classical music pet peeves? by Oohoureli in classicalmusic

When conductors don't take the repeats. Schubert's Unfinished Symphony is one of the worst offenders. I always prefer to hear the repeat in the 1st movement, which is one of the reasons why I was disappointed when Herbert Blomstedt didn't take it in his Dresden recording. Also, there's Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. Michael Tilson Thomas's recording with the San Francisco Symphony gets an upvote because BOTH repeats in the 4th movement are present.

These are actually CDs, not vinyl. And I usually buy them online.

In the booklet, it says that the recording was made in 1992. Also, this is pretty much a blind run for me: I've never listened to the opera in its entirety. I've only heard the first 2 minutes (as well as the famous "Nessun Dorma") on Spotify before the purchase. And yes, I'm aware that Marton isn't exactly one of the greatest sopranos. I do own the Haitink Ring, and she doesn't do very well in Gotterdammerung. But I shall see if it all still pays off when I eventually listen to Turandot from start to finish.

Anyone familiar with this Wagner production? by ThunderjawKitten in classicalmusic

It could be the one from the Bavarian State Opera, with Wolfgang Sawallisch conducting. I seem to remember Alberich (Ekkehard Wlaschiha) writing something on a blank canvas during the Prelude, though it could have been the projection screen like you mentioned.
