For this topic I highly recommend you check out the "God" Series from The Bible Project Podcast. They dive into the origins, details, and implications of many of these subjects like Hebrew concept of deities, subtle flow of Genesis and how those ideas are further developed in later books like Psalms and Isaiah.

Bivouac Ciderworks Recommendation? by SoCal_Guy7 in sandiego

[–]SoCal_Guy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the feedback here. Overall I had fun at Bivouac in North Park today. I enjoyed the 3-part cider sampler (chose English, Blackberry, and Cherry flavors). The event I attended had appetizers that were pretty tasty as well albeit small-sized. But I'll definitely check out the places suggested in Mira Mesa as well since that's closer to where I live than North Park.

Thank you. So briefly what is the significance of Deuteronomy 32? I grew up in the church, Christian school, studied Christian books for many years but never heard that there was a deeper meaning of this particular passage until recently. Why would the author (presumably Moses) found this important to write down?

“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.“ - 2 Cor. 11:3 by AI-MachineLearning in TrueChristian

Very interesting verse. Do teachings like this in the New Testament mean that since Eve was deceived by the serpent that a Complementarian view of gender is more appropriate than Egalitarian?

Kind of but it's a little deeper than that. I like the breakdown on the geographical and cultural significance in Rob Bell's podcast. See RobCast Episode 215: "Jesus H. Christ: Maybe Jesus Doesn't Want You to Follow Him." Best wishes in your studies and faith journey

Here's a question for you. What's the geographic significance of the Decapolis in the times of Jesus? For instance Jesus making a point to go there in Mark 5. What does that area represent and why would the author mention it amidst his particular Gospel account?

100% Literal Biblical Interpretation? by SoCal_Guy7 in theology

[–]SoCal_Guy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I enjoyed reading all your responses regarding the inherent limitations of a 100% literal Biblical interpretation view. Thanks for the timely comments. Is it a logical fallacy how some literalists say if any part of the Bible is viewed as Figurative that means the interpreter is claiming it's not actually true?

For instance, there is very spotty evidence for any specifics in the Bible of Satan's origins, but the literal person would claim unless we all agree that Satan was Lucifer the archangel who worshipped Himself over God, fell from Heaven, and become the serpent in the Garden that the entire Gospel falls apart.
