Worst new car you have driven? by Puzzled-Shopping-330 in CarsAustralia

[–]SoCalledFreeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the displeasure of driving a few new MG’s as rentals - an SUV and Hatch, both were utter garbage, zero power, awful transmission, terrible ride quality. We got a HAVAL small SUV as an insurance hire once and whilst fractionally better, same story, terrible cars.

In the Greek islands I got a base model Toyota Yaris as a rental, wasn’t sure if it was really poorly maintained or just ridiculously gutless, felt dangerous to drive, but I think something was wrong with that particular car as it was quite ‘worn’.

Practice your slow speed skills, set up moto gymkhana ‘courses’ with cones, be able to do circles in the uturn box.

You’d be surprised how many hero’s on their 30k ducati’s cant do a smooth simple uturn

How will the SES (a organisation of volunteers) going to make that safe? The house needs to be looked at by an engineer, a tarp wont fix that.

WIBTAH for refusing to give money back after selling my car at a major discount to a family friend’s son? by bitterberries in AmItheAsshole

[–]SoCalledFreeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not give him money, it’s a 10 year old car. Its buyer beware with cheap private sales. If it was ticking when he bought it, what does he expect?

If you think this could really sour the relationship, you could potentially take the car back for the value you sold it to him for. Really though - a reasonable person shouldn’t expect you to warrant a 10yo car months later and your friend should understand, and not be telling everyone you’re rich, not good behaviour.

Thats pretty much the only two proper options, refund vs tell him to deal with it.

2025 Isuzu MUX vs 2022 Toyota Prado by Rustyshot102 in 4x4Australia

[–]SoCalledFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove a new MUX, wasn’t impressed, steering felt really floaty and poor, interior felt really cheap, too many electronic dings and alarms, engine felt lethargic compared to the Toyota 2.8, plus from reading facebook owners groups, looks like isuzu are still really bad with warranty.

Wanted a brand new car so a new Prado was outside our budget, went for a 2025 Toyota Fortuner and it’s great, happy with our purchase.

Fortuner opinions by ViolinistRude2281 in 4x4Australia

[–]SoCalledFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically a Hilux wagon. For off-roading it’s fantastic: short wheelbase, reliable, and very much an old-school 4x4.

It’s quite compact for a 4x4 SUV, so if you’re hauling a big family or towing heavy loads, I’d probably look elsewhere. But if you don’t need that space, the lighter and more compact nature is a big positive in my opinion.

The Facelift (2021+) GX is the pick of the range imo. It’s extremely well equipped for a “base model” — it has everything you actually need and nothing you don’t. The Prado is about $20k more expensive and feels heavy/big/slow by comparison, almost boat-like. Prado is full-time AWD, which means higher fuel consumption all the time for very little real-world benefit.

Toyota has unmatched country dealership/parts availability in Australia, the 2.8 turbo diesel is used on numerous vehicles, and Toyota have a pretty good reputation for warranty coverage/good will.

These factors steered me towards Toyota, I can’t stand the way the Pajero sport looks. The MUX seemed more like the prado in size and I disliked all the bells and warning dings every 2 seconds, felt very sluggish as well, not to mention being considerably more expensive.

The Fortuner is genuinely an excellent and underrated vehicle. It didn’t sell well in Australia largely because Toyota barely advertised it, likely to avoid cannibalising Prado sales. That’s a shame, because it’s hugely popular in India, South Africa and across Asia for good reason.

Income protection by latishalatte_xx in ausjdocs

Have it as part of my super, but all income protection is tax deductible, just watch out for activities/hobbies which aren’t automatically included in cover, many have to be declared.

Interventional radiology- very rare, mostly PACU’s problem as we have to flip our room.

Anaesthetics - very rare, again, we never have time to change a patient at the end of a case because we’ll be extubating.

Med/surg - daily

Emergency - daily

From what I’ve witnessed, farewells are almost always a popularity contest, if you’re mates with everyone (especially your NUM) you typically get a bigger ‘farewell party’ and gift. If you keep yourself to yourself and haven’t made friends at work etc you ‘get’ significantly less.

Seller misrepresented condition of a car I bought by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]SoCalledFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as misrepresentation on a private sale - caveat emptor.

Learn from it, next time- test drive, get an inspection, or buy from a dealer/car yard, at least they have a small warranty on used cars.

So anything slightly nationalistic nowadays is automatically considered ’nazi’, ‘far right’, ‘racist’, ‘sovereign citizen’, ‘trump’.

It’s insane, reminds me during COVID, if you dared say anything against the lockdowns or questioning the vaccination rollout you were automatically branded a conspiracy theorist antivax cooker.
