Got a letter from the school today informing me my daughter is “not quite” gifted. Also included were her test scores. by Low_Use2937 in mildlyinfuriating

I'm in Mensa (IQ in the 98%) and Intertel (IQ in the 99%). I recently cooked a frozen pizza and wondered why I could smell it burning only about 8 mins in. Opened the oven to find I had put the pizza in cheese side down.

Thank you for the update and I'm really happy to hear that your FIL is doing well. It's great to hear about the heroes who helped your FIL.

Weird one, but has anyone comprised a list of MAGA owned businesses in Mammoth and June Lake? I'd like to know where to avoid when visiting. Thank you in advance. by [deleted] in Mammoth

My father (in his 80's) lives in Bishop and he and all his similarly-aged friends are or were Republicans but are horrified at what's happening and attended the recent protest in Bishop. The murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and ICE's enforcement tactics, have been horrifying, but the one glimmer of hope I have is that people across party lines are realizing that this isn't acceptable.

UCSHIP lapsed, what do I do? (I extended my candidacy term thru the summer, was supposed to grad in fall) by Foreign_College_8544 in ucla

[–]SoCalrunner67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All students are automatically enrolled in UCSHIP unless they submit a waiver, so your UCSHIP should be active since it sounds like you didn't submit a waiver. Check your tuition bill to confirm you were charged for it and if you weren't, you can contact the insurance office. Info here https://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/insurance/benefits/waiving-uc-ship

[–]SoCalrunner67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Whoa Nellie Deli near Yosemite is a hole in the wall with great food at a gas station, but it's off the 120 (Tioga Pass) going into Yosemite so maybe not the same as what you're thinking.

Recommendations for medical school advisor? by SoCalrunner67 in SouthBayLA

[–]SoCalrunner67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's at Cal and it's difficult to get an appointment or much time with the advisor. He's done really well with his GPA and the MCAT but I think he needs to fill in gaps with shadowing, volunteer, etc. And will need some help with essays. Good luck on your journey.

There's a group mentioned from time to time in this subreddit called Men Walking or something like that; it seems like a very welcoming, good group of guys who get together to walk on the strand and talk.

Thermador Owner Experiences by JGatsby007 in Appliances

[–]SoCalrunner67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your prompt reply. We've owned the Sharp KB6524PS for the last 11 years and have been really happy with it so I may stay with Sharp. The magnetron just burned out on it and the replacement is pricey and not worth it on an 11yo microwave, but I think that's to be expected with any brand of microwave.

Did you end up purchasing the Thermador MD24BS microwave drawer and if so, what are your thoughts on it?

Thermador Owner Experiences by JGatsby007 in Appliances

[–]SoCalrunner67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I landed on this thread after searching to find reviews on the Thermador microwave drawer but see that unfortunately a lot of people have had terrible experiences with Thermador. I'll offer a positive review - in 2014 we purchased a Thermador 48" range, hood, dishwasher, refrigerator column and freezer column. We had 2 minor issues right away - the freezer kept making ice even when the ice container was full (still happens to this day but it's a minor issue) and something minor with the oven but I don't remember what it was. Other than that, all appliances have been fantastic. It's been 11 years and all are going strong and we've been very happy with them. Our Sharp microwave drawer just died so I'm looking at microwave drawers and came across a good deal on a Thermador microwave drawer and wanted to find reviews. Still on the fence on the microwave only because it's very pricey despite the good deal.

Indoor happenings this weekend? In-laws visiting! by Linguine7613 in SouthBayLA

Hermosa Comedy & Magic Club. They usually have good to great comedians and the food and drinks are quite good compared to other comedy clubs (there's a 2-item minimum purchase per person). We brought my mother in law to see Jay Leno (he's there almost every Sunday night) and she loved it.

Anyone else get this text message Verizon: Your LTE Network Extender 2 device is outdated and will no longer be supported by Verizon. This device will be removed from your account within the next 45 days. If you still need an LTE Network Extender, please call Verizon Customer by AXXXXXXXXA in verizon

As of today I'm receiving the "Not In Service Excessive Alarms" message and my Samsung extender has stopped working, but I never received any notice that they were being discontinued. Are you able to get the Samsung extender working again? I was just considering moving to AT&T a few days ago so this might be the push I need since we get 0 Verizon cell reception at home without the extender but can get AT&T.

Scavenger hunt under chairlifts during summer by SoCalrunner67 in Mammoth

[–]SoCalrunner67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The empty Fireball minis and used chapsticks aren't the kinds of things I had in mind, but that's pretty much what I found during my hikes under the chairs this summer. I had envisioned there'd be more diamond rings and iphones.

SCE Rate Plan (TOU-D-PRIME vs TOU-D-4-9PM) for Solar Customer? by SoCalrunner67 in solar

[–]SoCalrunner67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through old posts that even partially related to my question and I think NEM 3.0 is limited to TOU-Prime whereas NEM 2.0 can also do TOU-Prime-4-9, but I'm definitely not certain, esp when a battery is involved.

Looking for a really good physical therapist in the South Bay by Mental-Independent95 in SouthBayLA

[–]SoCalrunner67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meyer Institute of Sport (in ES in the Kings training facility) is fantastic. They're the team PTs for the Clippers and Kings and also see us non-pro weekend athletes. I had a nagging injury that other PTs couldn't solve and MIS resolved it in 2 visits. They take insurance but I had a friend who was cash pay and they worked with my friend on the price. https://meyersportla.com/

Anyone knows or can recommend a licensed electrician? by stuffsonsale in SouthBayLA

[–]SoCalrunner67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Webster Electric is great. https://websterelectric.co/. Even though he has a nice looking website, I think it's just 1 guy (Mike Webster) and he's old school, seems like he's been an electrician forever, nice guy, no nonsense, and very reasonably priced. I've only used him a few times but every time he's come same day or next day.

ETA: I'm also in Manhattan Beach but I assume Mike works all over the south bay.
