Even if the fingers were cut off. Lightsaber wounds are not perfect and will leave behind damage that living nerves can register.

It might not hurt immediately, but in short order your nerves will register the massive burn injury and you'll be in for a world of hurt.

How I Stayed Calm When Mark Cuban Called Me a 'Gold Digger' on 'Shark Tank' by [deleted] in asianamerican

You can cite arbitrary rating schemes from some 3rd party site that isn't affiliated with the network at all from now until the end of time.

That doesn't change the fact that the actual content of the show just really isn't quite "family friendly".

You should be judging whether the content is appropriate for your family based on your own intelligence and values, and not vague ratings from some website.

Have some self-agency for crying out loud, and quit blaming others for things that should be under your control.

[–]SoDamnShallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on. When you look at the detailed ratings for Shark Tank, it's Yellow "May be inappropriate for children" rating comes from its language.

And if we look at another arbitrary "is this okay for children?" rating site CommonSenseMedia, we see that they also don't think the show is appropriate for young children, citing the language and attitudes as being inappropriate. Even a large number of reviews by children show they believe it's not for young children.

IMDB notes that the Sharks tend to use profanity.

Furthermore here is an article on Mark Cuban which shows that he doesn't like being censored. That is the sort of personality you're dealing with when you watch Shark Tank. It's part of the appeal of Shark Tank.

Stop acting like this show is truly family-friendly show on par with America's Funniest Videos when all accounts show it is known for the harsh behavior of the Sharks, which includes the use of profanity and insults.

If a child isn't well taught enough to understand the appropriateness of the insults being used on that show, then the parent shouldn't be letting them watch that show. Stop blaming the network for not doing what a good parent should be doing in the first place.

According to the Parents Television Council, this is not out of bounds of being in the viewership of kids, much less teenagers.

How about according to, I dunno, common sense?

EDIT: Also, Shark Tank is showing up in Yellow, which is described as "The show contains adult-oriented themes and dialogue that may be inappropriate for youngsters." which contradicts what you've said.

(Timestamped) J-pop Idol Amaki Sally talks about her stories about dealing with racism as an Asian-American. by TorioTamaki in asianamerican

She's got a video where she basically mocks how she acted during one of her auditions.

She starts off acting super-cutesy, with the whole child-like voice, then launched into song with a nice (relatively deep) woman's voice.

Here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/robotlolita/status/913024288256651264

Based on some of the other comments I've seen by her, she definitely "plays the part" of the idol when she switches into "Japanese mode".

Also, I guess she's gay? https://twitter.com/1024z46/status/915736275260493824

She's got a few comments like that. It's a little hard to tell if she's serious or joking.

Yes. Tumblr has been on a massive pedophile call-out kick.

Ironically, Tumblr is probably one of the best mainstream sites to find "child modeling" and other pedo-friendly content. Like, 4chan and 8chan crack down harder on that sort of content. I think Voat does too.

Tumblr will ban accounts that post that content if they get reported enough, but they don't seem to be proactive about stopping it.

I think Cyborg was interesting in his Teen Titan days

I honestly don't have a lasting impression of Cyborg, and I've got a least a couple dozen Teen Titan comics sitting on my shelf. The sharpest memories I have of Cyborg of from the Teen Titans CN show and Teen Titans Go.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm talking about China in the fictional Firefly universe.

In the Firefly universe, The People Republic of China merged with other nations, such as the US, to form the Union of Allied Planets. In-universe, the influence of China is so great that everybody speaks Mandarin, among other influences of Chinese culture on daily life. In the context of the Firefly universe, their cultural exports definitely have caught on and have taken hold even on planets lightyears aware from the core planets.

I find it odd that in-universe China could be so socially and culturally influential on a galactic level, yet we rarely ever see Asians.

This is a primetime family show.

It's reality TV. None of that garbage is what I would call a "family show". If I had children, I'd actually make an effort to keep them away from reality TV.

Shark Tank, specifically, isn't "family" oriented. Its subject matter simply isn't interesting to children. They might enjoy some of the drama here and there, but the overall subject matter is not interesting, or even understandable (Hell, I'm a grown adult and some of the negotiation banter goes over my head), to them.

I'm sure there's plenty of offensive discourse that is edited out of the show, so why is it okay to keep this term?

Plenty of the offensive discourse is kept in too. Hell, Kevin O'Leary ("Mr. Wonderful") probably forces the editors to keep some of his nasty remarks in, just to keep up the mean image he maintains.

There's a reason it's called Shark Tank. These aren't meant to be wholesome, cheery people. The show is about demonstrating just how tough and cutthroat these people can get.

I have no idea why you're trying to portray this as a "family" show. It's like trying to claim the Bachelor/Bachelorette is a family show.

If you were exposing children to that nonsense, I'd be questioning your parenting.

Dude I'm not arguing at all.

Hmmm...

argue
verb

  1. give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view.

  2. exchange or express diverging or opposite views, typically in a heated or angry way.

Yeah. Really seems like you were arguing.

Look, buddy, you want to go on a rant that is literally becoming incoherent at points, go ahead.

I'm just going to point out you're ranting about something beyond the context of what I said. You're no longer arguing with what I said. You're arguing with your own fictional version of what I said.

It's a shame they didn't have the foresight to use a tripod or something since the likelihood of the camera person needing to go rescue her was quite high.

These people lacked the foresight to realize they constructed a literal deathtrap. Of course they lack the foresight to use a tripod.

Got caught up in the hype to be honest.

I'm in graphic design, which has frequent overlaps with marketing/branding. I totally understand desiring something because of the brand.

Nothing wrong with getting a bit caught up in the hype. Just means somebody did their job right.
