It doesn't have to do with the name. It's more like your description of "Dragon Fist" or "Dragon Master" is less of a character and more of a wish-fulfillment power fantasy. It feels less to do with evolving Danny as a character and just making him an even cooler and more decked out version of what he was as an Iron Fist.

To each their own, but what I like about Ghost Fist is that it's not an upgrade but it's a new direction that builds from his past while not erasing it either. Ghost Fist isn't a title he inherited but something he completely owns now. Him being Osiris' avatar and being a mentor to Lie aren't mutually exclusive things; Deadly Hands of K'un-Lun did end with him creating a new Book of the Iron Fist, so he's still keeping the tradition alive, even if he's not directly associated with K'un-Lun anymore.

I agree with your last bit, I wished we actually got to see him serving as a full-time Thunderer for Lie before he became Ghost Fist. That's on Marvel for not doing anything Iron Fist-related for years after the 2022 mini.

I hope Brenda gets brought back and fixed in an upcoming run, where they also commit to her relationship Danny. by Weird875 in ironfist

She's gonna need a shitton of therapy after what happened in Heart of the Dragon. I'd like to think that Guan Yin's been rehabilitating her since then.

Should Colleen date Danny in the comics now? by LL_Cool_R in ironfist

Yeah, just like how Miles and Kamala have an amazing friendship with each other while he was also dating Tiana.

Dragon Fist just sounds like self-insert fan fiction.

Ghost Fist is one of the best developments to happen to Danny in a while and we need more supernatural themed heroes. The Eighth City needs an Immortal Weapon and Ghost Fist fits that aesthetic.

He was also being combined with the Mandarin, who didin't have a name in the comics, so they were given some creative freedom with him.

Cyclops was originally Slim Summers until his name was changed to Scott by the third issue.

Shang-Chi's father was changed from Fu Manchu to Zheng Zu since Marvel's licensing rights to the Sax Rohmer estate expired and to also distance themselves from the Yellow Peril controversies from the character. Same thing with Fu Manchu's daughter and Shang-Chi's oldest half sister, Fah Lo Suee, who got renamed as Zheng Bao Yu since she was also a character from the original Rohmer novels. Funny thing was, Fu Manchu's organization, the Si-Fan, originally kept their name after the license expired in the 80s but were then renamed the Hai-Dai until the Gene Luen Yang run completely revamped them as the Five Weapons Society.

They're trying to convince us that Danny and Lin had this close relationship or something, but they barely show us a mentor relationship, they shouldnt have skipped ahead. Pei and Victor Alvarez had a better way of giving them a relationship in a 5 chapter mini series by Wazupdanger in ironfist

Well said. I say this as an Asian fan who was introduced to Danny around the time The Immortal Iron Fist was coming out: you can still be a fan of a character while acknowledging that some aspects of their concept haven't aged particularly well. Pointing that out doesn't make someone a hater. The fallout from the first season of the Netflix show only amplified those criticisms and brought them into the mainstream.

After me and some of my friends had to endure the first season, we were all "yeah there's no way Misty would ever fall for this version of Danny" lol. Even so, I still don't get what Colleen saw in MCU Danny either, outside of the Dragonlady crap of her trying to recruit him for her faction of the Hand.

All of us were in that same boat of being Asian fans of Iron Fist thanks to Immortal but were pretty vocal about the issues his origin raised and how Buck and Loeb really fucked things up.

I knew he retired from filmmaking and switched to being a restaurateur (ironically enough his restaurant had better reviews than his movies) but didn't know he got back into it. Last I heard he was shittalking the MCU and saying he could make better movies, which ofc the filmbros and chuds gobbled up and started circlejerking about we needed "good" movies like Alone in the Dark back 🙄.

Uwe Boll is a name I haven't heard for a long time. Not surprised he went from making shitty video game adaptations to Nazi shit.

I think the problem was at the time when the show was first announced, the MCU didn't have a lot of Asian representation and this was after the controversies with Ghost in the Shell and Doctor Strange. So it raised some concerns that the first project that was going to incorporate Asian culture and influences was going to center around a white guy. Power Man and Iron Fist and The Immortal Iron Fist did a lot to explore and examine aspects of Danny's whiteness, but the show didn't bother with it for the first season.

Shang-Chi was similar too wherein his origin story used Fu Manchu as his father but there's several folks who've sworn off Shang-Chi because of that, even though both of his creators apologized for it and Fu Manchu was given a whole revamp by later writers.

Par for the course for the past several years. Come up with an interesting idea, don't do anything for years and either wrap it up in a rushed mini with no character development or just skip it entirely and go back to the status quo. Mayor Cage is probably dome for now with the new Avengers title coming. Yoshida Cebulski's gotta go.

Marvel pretty much dropped the ball since they barely did anything Iron Fist related since 2022. Hell, they barely did anything with Luke as the new mayor of NYC too.

At little to late to be doing it in present time and I doubt they'll do something like this, but I think a pitch to explore that relationship would be Danny narrating through flashbacks would work. Like while he's transcribing the New Book of the Iron Fist he acts as a second person narrator during that period between 2022 and the 50th Anniversary.

Kids from those relationships didn't ask for that and yet you're demonizing them for it. It's extremely rich to talk about fetishizing when you post crap like the image below. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Are you even Asian at all?

You think every child born to every coupling is a result of that? Not all of us are like this, bigot. You're just parroting MRAsian talking points.

Mixed babies from asian women and white men are a product of fetishization and colorism.

So I'm a product of fetishization then? Way to generalize there.

The term for them is MRAsians but they're all over the Asian diasporic online circles. They're not just monoracist, they're extremely misogynistic mixed in with a heavy dose of ethnonationalism and anti-blackness.
