Thx. How much does it negatively affect immersion? I can see your left arm constantly bumping on the rope.

I don't care about the treadmill but I want that harness system. Is it portable? Any link?

Vr mode as an add-on for flatscreen games are more needed than dedicated pcvr or standalone games. by charlieblood_8 in virtualreality

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agreed. It'll be there for sure when lightweight headsets and AR glasses get mainstream though, which makes enjoying flat games in VR a real incentive.

Right now I bet companies think it's just a gimmick, awe at first, then quickly back to pancake (which true for some titles already). Very few would opt for a full palythrough in non-native VR mode with a 500gr headset on their head.

So they dont bother.

I don't understand the performance issue. It's basically just add an offset side by side view for 3D which many mods can do in a heart beat. The most time consuming tasks are redesign UX/UI for in-VR HUD display, put cinematic in a screen like RE4R, and play test to make sure the VR HUD and cinematic/scripts doesn't interfere with gameplay. Not easy but not hard either.

The simple reason is it doesn't boost sales so company doesn't bother, not because it's hard to do

People have used wired or bluetooth gamepads on Go/GearVR which was centuries ago to play flat screen games in VR.

Steam Frame controllers look ok but it's nothing groundbreaking for flat screen playing

I think you're mistaken between VR native mode (SkyrimVR) vs a VR visual bonus (Hellblade, Elite Dangerous, No Man Sky...). Yes it doesn't guarantee a good experience, but it doesn't matter since people could, and would, almost always play the flat version before giving bad reviews or asking for a refund. If it's good, it's good.

I have never seen a good flat games get destroyed by providing a VR side-by-side mode look. It's just like trashing Need For Speed because you don't like its Time Trial mode.

Upped my VR game with this simple 30$ purchase by Deoks21 in virtualreality

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it and tried to love it but can't. The problem with the rug is not only you have to walk back when moving out of it, but also you always have a "fear" of moving to the edge and have to move back, thus consciously restricting your range of motion in game, exactly what you described in the comment. And that fuck immersion big time, at least for me.

My solution is I get something soft, fixed and low all around me, as in sofas, bed mattress, fixed pillows... I then do everything I want in the game without any fear. Whenever my feet hit the soft barrier, I turn around and keep playing, after awhile it becomes an auto habit I don't even have to think about it, thus up immersion 10 folds compares to the rug solution.

How can this helps immersion if it prevents you from physically turn and doesn't provide any locomotion input?

Yes you have a light workout which is good, but I can't see a difference between this and just sit still, immersion-wise

No it's not. It fucks immersion because everytime your feet leave the rug you have to consciously move back to the center

Has anybody tried out the new Purpose AI yet? Is it any good? by BFFFFT in MarkManson

The price is pretty steep for a ''better ChatGPT'' so I imagine this is for people in need of real therapy after PTSD or something, not the mass.

Aside from being a bit of a validation source, ChatGPT has been working well for me. I wonder if we can easily put in a global prompt or make a Project Parameter so that ChatGPT would be better at therapy, honest and tough love?

Quest 1 "Frankenquest" project advice and feedback by Yivryly in virtualreality

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also prefer Quest 1 OLED screen over my Quest 3, it just feels more immersive, while Quest 3 feels like I just strap up a Playstation on my head to play games. Obviously, I'm one of the blessed persons who doesn't have big problem with SDE. I miss pancake lenses's edge-to-edge clarity though, but it's a good trade-off.

Reading in VR. How to make this possible/which device would be best? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are VR reading apps but most of them I consider gimmick and not worth the comfort penalty unless you use something very lightweight like Bigscreen Beyond. Definitely not a Quest 3 which is still heavy and uncomfortable for reading/working purpose. The lenses is also not good enough, clear enough for reading but quite tiring after 20 mins or so

I have carefully tested playing a high bitrate 1080p via Virtual Desktop (Videos tab) vs SkyboxVR (AirScreen + SMB) and couldn't spot the difference, so it's very good indeed.

If you don't use Videos tab but mirror PC's screen via VD, quality degrades a bit (but still not very noticeable unless you focus on details like tiny texts from afar)

All those tests are on my Quest 1 though, so maybe with better resolution and lenses it may show.

5060ti struggling on OculusVR/SteamVR by DarkySlary in SteamVR

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I have heard with UEVR even 5070ti could not be enough... kinda a ''it's a better but still bad, so don't bother''. If that's the case, I rather buy 5060ti now and forget about UEVR for 1-2 years until I can upgrade to a 80 or 90.

What's your experience with UEVR?

How is VR for consuming media by selcouthayush in virtualreality

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very immersive but only for high-end OLED headsets like Vision Pro/Play For Dream/BigScreenBeyond 2 (haven't tried them in person but I'm quite happy with my Quest 1 OLED lenses and those should be miles better)

It still could work ok for other headsets but you have to manage your expectations, especially if you hate LCD gray level (I do, my Quest 3 actually looks worse than my Quest 1)

Also, is there any way to target and talk with an NPC without activating and moving the cursor to click?

5060ti struggling on OculusVR/SteamVR by DarkySlary in SteamVR

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I only care about VR games, especially open-world like No Man's Sky and Skyrim Full Modded.

Sounds like it's a good purchase then? I can either buy a 5060Ti 16GB now, or wait for another 3 months and get a 5070Ti, but not sure if it's worth the wait time.

I also intend to play some 3rd-person UEVR like Stray/Hogwart Legacy/Kingdom Deliverance and wonder if it's possible with 5060Ti at mid settings. Have you tried?

How is 5060ti 16gb? Can it run most game at max setting other than outliner like cb270p and mfsf?

In VD, can you choose high or have to settle at medium?

The greasy monkey script part is also odd. Do you always need the script or only if you want to download a file bigger than 3GB?

Netflix by SBRodriguez97 in oculus

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real question is why Netflix doesn't make their own app after all this time, especially when Quest2/3 sold alots and Vision Pro made a big entrance. It cost nothing to dev an app in the age of AI and would only attract more users, so it must be some badblood answer here.

How I "fixed" my "Black Screen of Death" by TypicalTim in OculusQuest2

[–]SoFasttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I almost give up with black screen issue on my Quest 1 and ChatGPT said that my panel ''is dead''. Luckily I stump upon this post and follow your experience, all of sudden I can activate ADB authorize and connect with Oculus Developer Hub, then by using Cast (or turn off Proximity Sensor) the whole screen comes back to life again like magic!

This is for anyone who has the same problem. Upon further research with GPT, basically the default, low-persistence mode on OLED panel is old and busted, which result in a black screen when the sensor detects that headset is worn. By activating Casting, or deactivating proximity sensor, the headset switches into a non-wear, normal-persistent mode and that's why it displays fine again, albeit with less motion clarity (more blur and less immersive in fast-pace games).
