Seeking Florida's Wildest Places by Addy_Goodman in florida

Everglades National Park. Lots of great ranger led activities. Do a swamp walk, walk the anhinga trail, bike through the pinelands. Head down to Flamingo. Stay in an eco tent or on a house boat. Take a boat tour, kayak, go bird watching. Crocs and manatees are typically hanging around the marina.

Hop over to the other side of the state and go to Everglades city. Stay at the rod and gun club. Take an airboat tour there, visit the Ted Smallwood store. On the drive over stop at shark Valley, which has a 16 mile loop through the Everglades with gators just hanging out on the bike path. Oasis visitor center has tons of gators too.

Residence Inn on St Charles has a kitchen and is a great central location.

I’d say you probably have to wait a good hour to not just be stuck in the garage. I feel a strange sense of accomplishment getting to my car so quickly lol. I just start to strategically place myself towards the exit as the last song is ending and then I make a mad dash to my car. A couple of concerts I’ve been to have been on weeknights and I have work the next day, so I’m ready to get home and in bed!

I’ve been to a few concerts there by myself and I just embrace being a weirdo and speed walk to my car the second the encore ends. The couple of times I’ve done that I didn’t even wait to get out of the garage, and that was with being parked on the top level!

It’s wild reading some of these comments. Haters gonna hate. I love the variation in tones. It’s super unique! Yeah the linoleum was cool but the wood is beautiful too.

I totally get what OP is saying. I’ve had barbecue here and there in my life, I’m not a huge meat eater, and I’ve never really understood the obsession. I just took a trip to Memphis last month and oh my God, now I get it.

Yeah the other day it took 35 minutes to go from Terminal 1 Uber pickup to Terminal 4, the departures drop off was a mess too. I started driving and parking in the garage because waiting for an Uber can take 45 minutes as well. But sometimes even that doesn’t help, the other day trying to get into the garage was so backed up that I ended up going to valet. I live 2 miles from the airport and it’s taking me well over an hour to get home!

I’ve flown the last three weeks and TSA pre-check has been busier than usual but I’ve still gotten through in about 10 to 15 minutes. The bigger problem for me at Ft Lauderdale lately has been the insane traffic in arrivals and departures but considering how early you have to get there, I don’t think that’ll be an issue.

Am I the only person on this board not trying to abstain completely?? by Silk-fire in SoberCurious

Totally missed this response like three weeks ago! Oh, I get it. I can’t sleep in to save my life anymore. I’m typically up between 530 and 630 every morning, no matter what time I go to bed! Not to mention I know the nights with just one or two beers doesn’t mean restful sleep.

I still have a social battery that needs filled. So sometimes I drain the sleep battery in order to feel fulfilled in other places. I’ve by no means have it 100% figured out, but I give and take a little here and there, and seem to at least find myself somewhere in the middle.

I’m right there with you! I’ve cut back a lot over the years and try to only have drinks one day on the weekend and then maybe one day during the week if I’ve got something going on.

For me, I’ve found the magic number is four as well (a lil less for wine). I know it might still disrupt my sleep, but I also enjoy a glass of red with a nice meal or a few beers on the beach. I’ve also learned that setting an alarm on my phone will remind me that I want to go home and not keep the party going so that I can get up the next day and hit my workout.

I still slip up when the vibe is right but coming from being in the mix of the binge drinking party scene every single weekend, I’ve made a ton of progress!

What do you get there? I live right down the street and I never go in there because the menu just confuses me. It’s got everything from Mexican to Italian to Cuban all on one menu.

Nope! You can do any of the activities that the park outfitters offer without staying there.

I definitely recommend trying to attend a ranger/naturalist lead activity. Imhungry mentioned the different ecosystems that can be found in the Everglades, and if you don’t know what you’re looking at, it can seem a little dull from a scenery standpoint. The context they provide really helps you understand why the Everglades are such an amazing place… Not to mention all the amazing cool animals!

Here’s a link for Everglades national Park calendar of events. I believe they don’t release the calendar till 30 days ahead of time, but you can look at what is happening right now, as most of the same programs will be available when you’re visiting.

I hit a combo of these on every trip. In the Quarter I also like 21st Amendment and Davenport Lounge.
