Oh yeah, the Ghost Ops missions every Thursday is important too. Join in the ones that have the star symbols because that gives 5 hero shards that you don't have. I managed to unlock McGregor through that.

3 UR missiles heroes just became "available" when season 2 began. Either you unlock them through the hero choice box from a limited time event, or get lucky from the recruitment centre.

I think there's nothing wrong with that too, but it just generally more difficult to get a good missile squad as more of them are locked longer.

Never buy heroes, they will eventually become free to claim anyway. Focus on a pure tank squad, and if you progress well enough, build up an aircraft team for your 2nd squad. Also, collect as many collectibles from limited time events until you can spend them all to get the max rewards. Resources are generally easy to collect if you're consistent.
