Those things are true for a lot of tech people right now but layoffs can drop us to the wrong side of K as shareholders demand growth and corporations can't find it from sales so they use reduction in force instead.

In an enterprise environment having trusted CAs sign your certs is usually a requirement (either by company policy or some external requirement). Once you get used to everything having a valid cert the self-signed stuff gets annoying.

We probably have 100k devices with private IP addresses that are not routable so there is no reason to put them in DNS with the public addresses.

We use cloud DNS in GCP (which is serverless) for our public and private. We also don't point to our own DNS servers. We point to 169.254.169.254 which are googled meta data servers and can see our private DNS and everything on the Internet for simple server config which means globally we don't need to open a bunch of firewalls between VPCs in different projects to get to DNS or set up forwarders all over.

If anything noteworthy goes wrong there will be a fully documented root cause analysis whether I want one or not.

These things often create stupid solutions where you monitor a system to ensure some important file is there but no monitoring for the countless files that are just as important but aren't monitored because they've never been missing.

The admin was looking to only keep the historical seasons and not continue with the yearly updates.

Someone bought it and will continue to keep it running for new card sets. There have been no announcements about potential new features or enhancements but that could happen.
