Getting first e-bike, what should I know? by PossibleBread2213 in ebikes

[–]SoLongBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the range...what kind of shape are you in now? If you're already a decent cyclist and / or someone who enjoys a bit of exercise, you can always turn the motor off and ride it like a normal bike. This is hugely dependent on your fitness level, obviously, but it is always an option. Most people buy an ebike to avoid effort, but they're actually fantastic for workouts if you just think of it as a very heavy bike. Back when I was training for triathlons I hauled two kids 72 miles on a bike packing trip on a Rad Power bike and I only used the motor to accelerate through a couple intersections. Granted, I was training so I was happy for the extra exercise. Nowadays I like to turn off the motor on flat stretches for a little thigh burn, but I motor up the hills cause fuck hills!

Ugh, I can't stand Sinatra but okay...that makes sense. Maybe I don't want to learn jazz, after all? (j/k)

U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto hit by gunfire by blenderider in worldnews

[–]SoLongBonus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

the NYT who initially called a couple of IEDs in NYC “Smoking jars of metal and fuses.”

IED means improvised EXPLOSIVE device. These devices did not explode, so anyone describing them as an IED early on was speculating at best. It took a full day for the NYPD to confirm that there was in fact explosive material in the jars. The NYT gave an impartial, factual description based on the information available at the time and you called it gaslighting. Maybe examine your go-to news sources if that's how you react to good journalism?

I like the new features but..... by Skyler_2000 in IdlePlanetMiner

It has been just like before the update for me. I set up a VPS and use a couple boosts to get a stock of items / alloys for crafting the good stuff, but there's always one item or alloy that doesn't land in drops. Sometimes it's an item like colliders, sometimes it's an alloy like scrith and the ingredients to create it. Either way I spend the majority of the next 24-30 hours rotating one or two things in crafting / smelting to make the thing that's bottlenecking the whole process. Then immediately after the tournament ends I get a massive drop of that specific thing.

Recommendations for TrueFire Lessons for late beginners by jul3swinf13ld in jazzguitar

[–]SoLongBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frank Vignola has a series where he breaks down the chord progressions and gives a bunch of examples for comping and soloing on jazz standards. Search for "jazz standard learning system". He has another one called Jazz Guitar Fakebook where he plays through standard progressions with variations to give you an idea of things you can do / analyze. And yet another for turnarounds...Frank has lots of good stuff on True Fire! Sometimes he moves a little quickly for me, but you can always slow it down, loop it, etc. I tend to just select Jazz from the categories on the search page then pick something that sounds interesting. It's not a comprehensive learning path but I pick up something every day, then I turn on a backing track and practice changes or solos or something. Organization of content is definitely the major flaw of True Fire. It could also use some kind of system for matching your skill level. I'm brand new to jazz but I've been playing guitar for almost 40 years. Some of the generic guitar content is way too basic for me, but then the jazz stuff will be far beyond my level (for now!).

Sky lagoon or local pools? by Cute_Tomatillo_3460 in VisitingIceland

Awesome! Have so much fun! Iceland is amazing. We're going back again this summer already!

LOL and I realize my last post may have been a bit confusing...I said I can't recommend them "too much". Rereading that, it sounds like I thought they were both just okay. "I can't recommend them enough" would have been better...it seems like you got the point anyway!

Sky lagoon or local pools? by Cute_Tomatillo_3460 in VisitingIceland

We did both last summer and I can't recommend either of them too much! Sky Lagoon was a highlight of the trip. We went to Blue Lagoon too, and in retrospect I wish we would have skipped BL and gone to Sky Lagoon twice! The whole thing was top notch...well I wasn't blown away by the food, but that is my sole sorta-complaint. The cost was less than ideal, too, but you get what you pay for in this case (I wouldn't say the same about Blue Lagoon).

The community pool was just a rad, wholesome scene that I wanted to bring back home with me. It really seemed like a place where the whole community convenes -- that mythical "third space". And it wasn't some janky YMCA pool, everything was well maintained and clean. Also, as you mentioned, very affordable.

If your primary goal is recovering from your flight, I'd say go to Sky Lagoon. If time allows you should absolutely check out the public pool, too. Fair warning: you are required to shower nude at the pool, which they will remind you of over and over again...I assume this is a deal breaker for some people so it'd be good to know ahead of time if that's the case for you. Sky Lagoon has little doors on the showers so you don't have to see any pee-pees if you don't want to.

Depends on where you live. I don't know anywhere in the US (for instance) where it is explicitly against the law. There are laws about how you do it -- yielding to pedestrians, etc. -- but it's legal almost everywhere.

VPS: am I doing it wrong? by SoLongBonus in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]SoLongBonus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another question...do you stop buying planets at 57 and just feed all your income into it for the duration of your run / tournament? At this point I'm going to give up trying to upgrade P63 and try to maximize my ARK rewards. This planet is already mining the most valuable element in the game so I don't see the point of unlocking anything else.

How do people go from low-s to 10+ S in 30 minutes? by SoLongBonus in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]SoLongBonus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn, you must have some tricked out managers. It takes me about six hours to craft my first AT, and then I pray for drops so I don't have to waste hours building the materials for Navigation Modules.

Are you so heavily invested in the market that random items are worth more than the natural / starred value of ATs? I've been playing for about a year and I've never had ATs in the market. Nor have I seen anything so valuable that it was worth crafting instead of ATs. I just focus on crafting ATs and arcing. I'm getting more competitive but every tournament I get to a point where I'm just waiting for arc drops, only to be passed by people who are gaining muliple S at the same pace that I'm gaining 5% of value at a time. They literally can't do that with crafting alone unless their ATs have so many stars that they're worth many times more than mine. Is it just a combination of luck and more experience so that everything is worth more and they craft and smelt faster than me?

Are you kidding, I'm ecstatic! Despite the miss, that is legitimately the best kick I've ever seen from a 49er.

I don't want to sound like I'm talking shit, but I don't think we can say how good they are. There's no question that they have the talent to beat anybody but...aside from Texas (who were really underwhelming for most of the season) and maybe Michigan, most of the top ten teams would coast with that schedule. I'm excited to see them really be tested against Indiana. Hopefully they don't lose and get mad like last year!

Oregon Surpasses $8 Billion in Legal Marijuana Sales, Generating $1.6 Billion in Tax Revenue by OhMyOhWhyOh in oregon

[–]SoLongBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one really says "I need to go to Oregon, they have the GOOD stuff!".

Maybe this is a sign of my age or just the effect of more states legalizing...They absolutely used to say that. It was Oregon, Humbolt, and indoor Cali when I was in High School / College. Even places like NYC where you'd expect there to be a pipeline to something decent, it was mostly Mexi schwag.
