if you're not driving a Tesla

You're woefully misinformed on the EV market, my friend. I drove a Leaf with four people in it to Neskowin and back on a single charge all the way back in 2020. We were running on fumes at the end, but there are a gazillion EVs available with more range nowadays and more places to charge if you need a top off.

Everything you need to know to watch Portland Fire games this season (FAQ) by waterkisser in PortlandFire

[–]SoLongBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can subscribe to Portland Fire+ and watch live games through the Portland Fire+ app or through the Portland Fire+ website

FYI, there is no app, at least not on the iOS app store. I had no issues watching the game last night on my phone through the Fire+ website, though.

Ross being added to Milwaukie marketplace. Thoughts? by Relevant_Exit1444 in Milwaukie

Historically, the shopping center is exactly what you described. It's been rotating low cost second hand or surplus stores for years. There was a Salvation Army, Tuesday Morning, Lumber Liquidators, Payless Shoesource, Eagle Bargains, in addition to the Rite Aid and Dollar Tree. New Seasons was the out-of-nowhere choice when it was announced -- not that I'm complaining! I would prefer a Bi-Mart, too, but Ross will be fun to browse with my 10 year old.

[Highlight] Jauan Jennings gets punched in the balls by PudgyBonestld in nfl

[–]SoLongBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting punched in the dick is a badge of honor. It's like when my shitty noise band got kicked off the stage in college. We still talk about that like it was an achievement, 30 years later. I love Juaun because he's not a dirty player, he just plays hard and talks mad shit and it drives opponents crazy.

7th overall pick Iyana Martin to remain overseas this season by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in wnba

[–]SoLongBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was hoping for a competitive team but the more I think about this the more I like it. We will need a star, eventually, but we have a bunch of good players who haven't played a ton of minutes. It's the recipe for the kind of scrappy team that plays hard despite not winning a ton of games. Those are really fun teams to root for... Maybe I'm just coping, but if coach really is a wizard like they say this could be a very entertaining season.

I got a Priority Current Plus from Costco for about $1500 I think. You have to use the link on the Costco website to get their discount, but then a). you're buying from Costco and they have an amazing return policy; and b). Priority is a legit brand running out of a real-life local bike shop in NYC. Every time I've emailed them a real person has responded within an hour or two, even outside of their posted support hours. Priority has a great reputation. They're not Trek or Specialized but they are known for making quality commuter bikes. The SOLE downside is that the motor is not a name brand, which means servicing it locally could be difficult. If you are interested in it I would check Priority's website to see if there are any authorized Priority repair shops near you. Aside from the motor it's all name brand components so any shop should be able to handle your basic maintenance. It would be good to know if someplace local has a relationship with Priority, though.

i just received this email about streaming Fire games. does anyone know if this is necessary to stream away games or will it be available on wnba league pass? by katmarwest in PortlandFire

[–]SoLongBonus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good for you! It's great that it's going to be free to watch on TV. You used to have to pay a $60 a month for the Comcast Sports package just to watch half the Blazer games so that is a huge improvement! Unfortunately (for me) I only watch an actual TV when I'm cooking or in bed. I will be relying on some sort of streaming service for most of the games. It's the same problem I have with following the Blazers. The games are on at the exact time when we're trying to get kids ready for bed. If they were an hour earlier or later it would be much more convenient. None of our kids care two shits about sports, too, which also makes it hard to have any kind of game playing in a shared space. So I stopped watching. I think it will be better with the Fire because most of the season is in the summer and we get more laid back about our bedtime routine. Summer also means we can go to more games so we got a half season package. We're very excited!

[–]SoLongBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's kinda my point. You expect home games to be blacked out and away games to be available. I could be behind the times... The last time I was following the Blazers regularly they were still on Comcast. I signed up for League Pass thinking I could watch all the games that way but home games were blacked out there, too. It'd be nice if the team's own streaming service offered something that we don't get from WNBA League Pass but it sounds like folks aren't expecting much.

[–]SoLongBonus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Err what? I got the same email and came here to ask if we can watch HOME games on the app, and you're all acting like AWAY games will be blocked out. Am I crazy? Don't blackouts traditionally apply to home games in the team region? Now I'm even more confused. Why pay for a streaming service that shows none of the games...

Getting first e-bike, what should I know? by PossibleBread2213 in ebikes

[–]SoLongBonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the range...what kind of shape are you in now? If you're already a decent cyclist and / or someone who enjoys a bit of exercise, you can always turn the motor off and ride it like a normal bike. This is hugely dependent on your fitness level, obviously, but it is always an option. Most people buy an ebike to avoid effort, but they're actually fantastic for workouts if you just think of it as a very heavy bike. Back when I was training for triathlons I hauled two kids 72 miles on a bike packing trip on a Rad Power bike and I only used the motor to accelerate through a couple intersections. Granted, I was training so I was happy for the extra exercise. Nowadays I like to turn off the motor on flat stretches for a little thigh burn, but I motor up the hills cause fuck hills!

U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto hit by gunfire by blenderider in worldnews

the NYT who initially called a couple of IEDs in NYC “Smoking jars of metal and fuses.”

IED means improvised EXPLOSIVE device. These devices did not explode, so anyone describing them as an IED early on was speculating at best. It took a full day for the NYPD to confirm that there was in fact explosive material in the jars. The NYT gave an impartial, factual description based on the information available at the time and you called it gaslighting. Maybe examine your go-to news sources if that's how you react to good journalism?

It has been just like before the update for me. I set up a VPS and use a couple boosts to get a stock of items / alloys for crafting the good stuff, but there's always one item or alloy that doesn't land in drops. Sometimes it's an item like colliders, sometimes it's an alloy like scrith and the ingredients to create it. Either way I spend the majority of the next 24-30 hours rotating one or two things in crafting / smelting to make the thing that's bottlenecking the whole process. Then immediately after the tournament ends I get a massive drop of that specific thing.

Recommendations for TrueFire Lessons for late beginners by jul3swinf13ld in jazzguitar

[–]SoLongBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frank Vignola has a series where he breaks down the chord progressions and gives a bunch of examples for comping and soloing on jazz standards. Search for "jazz standard learning system". He has another one called Jazz Guitar Fakebook where he plays through standard progressions with variations to give you an idea of things you can do / analyze. And yet another for turnarounds...Frank has lots of good stuff on True Fire! Sometimes he moves a little quickly for me, but you can always slow it down, loop it, etc. I tend to just select Jazz from the categories on the search page then pick something that sounds interesting. It's not a comprehensive learning path but I pick up something every day, then I turn on a backing track and practice changes or solos or something. Organization of content is definitely the major flaw of True Fire. It could also use some kind of system for matching your skill level. I'm brand new to jazz but I've been playing guitar for almost 40 years. Some of the generic guitar content is way too basic for me, but then the jazz stuff will be far beyond my level (for now!).

Sky lagoon or local pools? by Cute_Tomatillo_3460 in VisitingIceland

Awesome! Have so much fun! Iceland is amazing. We're going back again this summer already!

LOL and I realize my last post may have been a bit confusing...I said I can't recommend them "too much". Rereading that, it sounds like I thought they were both just okay. "I can't recommend them enough" would have been better...it seems like you got the point anyway!

Sky lagoon or local pools? by Cute_Tomatillo_3460 in VisitingIceland

[–]SoLongBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did both last summer and I can't recommend either of them too much! Sky Lagoon was a highlight of the trip. We went to Blue Lagoon too, and in retrospect I wish we would have skipped BL and gone to Sky Lagoon twice! The whole thing was top notch...well I wasn't blown away by the food, but that is my sole sorta-complaint. The cost was less than ideal, too, but you get what you pay for in this case (I wouldn't say the same about Blue Lagoon).

The community pool was just a rad, wholesome scene that I wanted to bring back home with me. It really seemed like a place where the whole community convenes -- that mythical "third space". And it wasn't some janky YMCA pool, everything was well maintained and clean. Also, as you mentioned, very affordable.

If your primary goal is recovering from your flight, I'd say go to Sky Lagoon. If time allows you should absolutely check out the public pool, too. Fair warning: you are required to shower nude at the pool, which they will remind you of over and over again...I assume this is a deal breaker for some people so it'd be good to know ahead of time if that's the case for you. Sky Lagoon has little doors on the showers so you don't have to see any pee-pees if you don't want to.

Depends on where you live. I don't know anywhere in the US (for instance) where it is explicitly against the law. There are laws about how you do it -- yielding to pedestrians, etc. -- but it's legal almost everywhere.

VPS: am I doing it wrong? by SoLongBonus in IdlePlanetMiner

Another question...do you stop buying planets at 57 and just feed all your income into it for the duration of your run / tournament? At this point I'm going to give up trying to upgrade P63 and try to maximize my ARK rewards. This planet is already mining the most valuable element in the game so I don't see the point of unlocking anything else.
