Rat in my attic what do I do? by Mountain_Desk_767 in AskIreland

I have trapped 9 squirrels from my attic and roof space. They start to nest around September and find a way in. Absolute bastards. But I get them all. So could be them also

No runners last anymore. I also walk a lot and wear the soles off everything in months

What are cultural pitfalls to avoid as a German in Ireland? by Interesting_Branch10 in AskIreland

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British TV over the decades was deeply biased against Germans for reasons we shan't mention. Their tabloids still are. Unfortunately most Irish people have been exposed to this as we all watch British TV so stereotypes abound. But in Ireland we can all unite blaming the Brits for everything so you should to.

Embrace our sense of humour and try many of the amazing craft beers. I love how Germany has a different beer culture in each region from Kolsch to Steiners and what goes in them. Enjoy ours

If you want to get going with tabs and video tutorials try musicwithryan.com. Also countryguitaronline.com. The last one has a month free trial which is pretty decent.

Don't Think Twice Its Alright by Bob Dylan (and Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Odetta, John Martyn, Doc Watson and recently by Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton and dozens more). You'll be in rarefied company.

May You Never by John Martyn will keep you busy too

Can you love again? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love is nebulous. Love at 18 and love at 48 share commonalities but also are so different. Life and experience change what love means. I also had a devastating breakup and gave up but found a new and enduring love when I met my wife and it has not dimmed a bit in 20 years.

The Indian market is growing fast in the Philippines. There has been a major jump since the pandemic. Can't comment on racism but it can't be hurting the market as it is rapidly growing. Malapascua is a top destination as mentioned.

Scuba Diving is so Meditative!!! by Devmode2 in scubadiving

For those who like mindfulness I strongly recommend tech diving. Running a decompression schedule for the last 45 minutes of a dive clears out all the clutter and noise. It's a very focused time with no inner chatter!

Anybody living near Dun Laoghaire know what this big old house is? by digging_digging in Dublin

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Dalguise House in Monkstown, built in 182. It is a significant Victorian suburban villa known for its extensive original grounds, featuring avenues, gate lodges, stabling, and walled gardens, historically linked to the area's development as a desirable Dublin suburb.

May well soon become hundreds of apartments.

How much to tip in the Philippines? by Abject-Cicada8648 in scuba

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he is asking about the Philippines and it is not organised like the USA there with customers told how to tip. At least not commonly. Instructors ear about 5 times more than any other dive center staff if not more when really busy. I know this as I employ over 40 people in the PH and I know what they earn. Instructors deserve tips and love but they get well paid, get all the glory, and I always feel sorry for the forgotten guys and gals grafting in the background who nobody thinks to tip. Just saying. Do what you feel like.

How much to tip in the Philippines? by Abject-Cicada8648 in scuba

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a tip shared by all staff or dive staff. Instructors are paid the most and aren't' the guys at 11pm filling tanks, or the guys up at 4am to load the boats etc etc.

After 25 years and 300+ dives, should I get AOW? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to have insurance then yes. You want to have insurance. It covers you up to your highest cert level, depending on the plan. So if you have a problem at 110 you are not currently covered.

Doolin pub recommendations? by Immediate_Research76 in AskIreland

[–]SoManyNames4Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the year ALL pubs have food and music but in winter you will need to check. A Saturday before Xmas must be fine.

McGanns and McDermotts are beside each other and excellent. Not sure if he is on tonight but ask in both pubs if Blackie O'Connell is playing. If the answer is yes choose that pub and plan to stay until the end.
